Tomas Rosicky is a doubt for Arsenal. Everton’s Steven Pienaar is out for at least a fortnight. Ashkan Dejagah adds to Fulham’s injury woes. Hatem Ben Arfa returns for Newcastle, Sunderland are set to be without Steven Fletcher at Norwich, Crystal Palace will be without the services of Marouane Chamakh once more, whilst Morgan Amalfitano and Billy Jones remain sidelined for West Brom:

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Tomas Rosicky is Arsenal’s only injury worry for tomorrow lunchtime’s crunch encounter at Stamford Bridge. The Czech international has picked up an ankle problem and faces a fitness test later today.

Southampton have a number of concerns in midfield for the trip to Tottenham. In this morning’s press conference, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Morgan Schneiderlin, Guly Do Prado and Gaston Ramirez are all concerns, whilst Victor Wanyama and Jack Cork remain doubts.

Roberto Martinez has ruled Steven Pienaar out of the clash with Swansea at the weekend. The Spaniard expects Pienaar to remain on the sidelines for two to three weeks with a knee problem. Meanwhile, the Toffees’ boss remains optimistic on club captain Phil Jagielka’s fitness, suggesting the defender is 50-50 for the visit of Swansea.

Fulham’s injury problems continue to mount as Felix Magath ruled out Ashkan Dejagah, Dan Burn, and Kostas Mitroglou for the Etihad trip. Scott Parker also remains sidelined with a knee problem, though Magath believes the midfielder could return to contention against Everton next week.

Hatem Ben Arfa will return to the Newcastle squad at the weekend, after missing the loss to Fulham due to personal reasons. Elsewhere Davide Santon is sidelined with tonsillitis, having not trained during the week.

Sunderland will be without Steven Fletcher against the Canaries this weekend. The club is awaiting a prognosis on the ankle injury that forced the forward off against Palace at the weekend, amid fears he could be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Tony Pulis has confirmed that the club remain without Marouane Chamakh because of a hamstring injury. Dwight Gayle is a doubt, having been sent for scans after picking up an injury in training during the week.

Baggies boss Pepe Mel will again be without injured duo Morgan Amalfitano and Billy Jones for the KC Stadium encounter at the weekend. Jonas Olsson has also been ruled out as he serves the first of a two-game suspension.

Chris Hughton has conceded that Michael Turner won’t be risked for the visit of Sunderland, having only just returned to action for the reserves following months out with a hamstring injury. Jonas Gutierrez (calf) is unlikely to face the Black Cats, with Hughton going on to say midfielder Leroy Fer is still “a few weeks” away from a return to action.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

What do people honestly think about the Liverpool defence these days? 2 clean sheets a top defence don't make, or have they turned a corner?
Also, are they now more likely to get a CS against a good club away, due to formation change, or a weaker club as they play a more attacking game?

Chelsea would want to be scared of PSG, they're on a warpath and have the league in the bag, Ibra himself has scored something like 40 goals this season.

Barca vs Atletico might surprise people as to how good Atletico are.

Madrid will want revenge against Dortmund. Madrid have improved vastly, Dortmund are a shadow of themselves last year.

Might put a bet on Bayern -5 over two legs.

True, but PSG are playing very well and I can only see Chelsea parking the bus and trying to make it as difficult as possible.
Chelsea's defence is better, but PSG destroy them in attack.

        Yup, agree.

I agree that defence is its only area where Chelsea actually might be better than PSG, player-wise, but even there, looking at their defensive records, it really is a question whether Chelsea's defence is better? PSG's defensive record is way more impressive and with Silva on they are extremely reassuring, and although. Even if the rest of Chelsea defenders are better, which is probably true, PSG's defensive midfielders certainly are the better of these two, probably the best central midfield trio around, and surely better than anything Mourinho can patch up from his players. It is quite telling that Mourinho has to field Mikel time to time. Chelsea sometimes concedes loads on a bad day. PSG doesn't. They hardly even concede shots. So is it really the weaker defence?

I'd say Demi is loudly underestimating PSG. Where Chelsea fares the best in comparison must be in coaching, due to Mourinho's experience and cynical attitude. Blanc is more of a gentleman and friend of entertaining football and while he has quite incomparable experience as a player, as a manager he only has, I think, one CL campaign, be it that it was a pretty good one with a significantly worse team. And Mourinho, on the other hand, is just a winner, he doesn't give a rat's arse about how he wins it as long as he does. However, Blanc will have Ibrahimovic on his side to bring in that killer attitude, and that might just be enough. Still, as Blanc wants to always have the ball and try to play his way and Mourinho very easily contents with reacting and trying to counter opponent's tactics, seen how equal these teams are that may give advantage to Chelsea, because it usually is easier to focus on defence and take opponent on counter than it is to really try to dominate the game against close equals.

Just about! To be clear, when I say "Everyone else" I include Bayern in that - I'm not supporting the teams playing against other English teams, I simply don't feel an affiliation by proxy to English/British teams in Europe. I know others do and all power to them but I refuse to be accused of being unpatriotic or something because I don't care two figs how Man Utd are doing in Europe 🙂

if you support a team in the PL (particulary arsenal, liverpool, city, spurs) then you'd want utd/chelsea to go out cos otherwise it means more money for transfers which means stronger competition in the future

Im not accusing you of that. I just thought you'd want the PL teams to do well in Europe as it would increase the English co-efficient, which in turn could give teams like Newcastle a chance of European footy with an extra spot

Sorry, I didn't mean you were accusing me of that, just seen it done by others 🙂

The extent to which that increases Newcastle's chances of European success is so trivial it can't motivate me to care who wins out of two teams I don't otherwise take any interest in. My ambitions for Newcastle are a bit more modest!

i'm not fussed about having more teams from england in europe & with the new PL tv deal we now see more money than any other country by far so that shouldnt be an issue either.

saying that, if i was spainish with all their debt-ridden teams have & hardly any tv revenue coming in than i'd probably agree with you on this.

      True.
Goes to show that there still is class in the squad.
I also don't think this will end with slaughter, tighter then most think i think even though Bayern will own the ball somewhere in between 60 and 70%. Rooney will be playing deep as hell.

Very tempted to go with this WC team:

      Mannone
      Coleman, Zabaleta, Chester (Baker, Dann)
      Hazard, Gerrard, Yaya, Silva (Ki)
      Suarez (c), Sturridge, Carroll

Only thing holding me back is worries of Andy Carroll getting injured and the fact that this the third time owning Silva. THIRD TIME. (He won't let me down this time...right?)

A punt with Gerrard worked in my January WC. Thoughts on these two punts?
