Andy Carroll grabs a goal and assist as the Hammers notch a sixth win in nine to boost their survival bid. Gus Poyet retains a three-man backline as Adam Johnson climbs off the bench to pick up the points yet again but the winger is unable to prevent Sunderland slipping to yet another loss:

Carroll the Hammers Hero
The big target man turned in a match-winning performance as West Ham took a major step towards safety last night. Having blanked over both home matches in double Gameweek 31, Carroll was sold on by almost 5,000 Fantasy Premier League managers but returned to form by scoring for the second away fixture in succession in a hard-fought 2-1 win on Wearside. The Geordie also provided the assist for Momo Diame’s strike and subsequently earned the maximum bonus points, though with games against Liverpool, Arsenal and City in the last six, the schedule looks tough for the Upton Park outfit. Nonetheless, if Sam Allardyce’s side are to find the net, there’s every chance Carroll will be involved – since his return from injury, he’s scored two and assisted four of the eight goals his side have netted when he’s been on the pitch.

Noble Ticking Over
The midfielder’s assist for Carroll’s opener took him past the 100-point mark as Noble whittles away Kevin Nolan’s lead as the Hammers’ top scoring Fantasy midfielder. Despite Carroll’s return from injury and suspension, Nolan has now drawn blanks in each of the last five – Noble has chipped in with a goal and pair of assists over that run and, with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 5.2-priced Hammers man moved level with Samir Nasri in the midfield standings and ahead of Santi Cazorla.

Poyet Retains 3-5-2 Formation
The Sunderland manager’s decision to roll out a 3-5-2 system at Anfield last Wednesday was, to an extent, understandable. Certainly, the 2-1 defeat suggested Poyet’s tactics had curtailed Luis Suarez and co, bearing in mind that match is the only time in their last eight that Brendan Rodgers’ side have failed to score at least three goals. A home game against West Ham looked a different proposition altogether but Poyet stuck to his guns and continued with Phil Bardsley at right wing-back, bringing in Marcos Alonso – who missed out through suspension against the Reds – on the opposite side of midfield. The formation also allowed Fabio Borini a rare chance as a centre-forward but, in a similar situation to last week, it was only when Poyet moved to a back-four that his side began to offer any real threat. Last night’s loss was Sunderland’s third in succession – up next, they face Spurs, Everton, City and Chelsea, and unless their manager can arrest their decline, many may be considering avoiding the Black Cats’ assets altogether despite a pair of doubles in their last six Gameweeks.

Johnson Delivers Off the Bench Again
Dropped for last week’s trip to Anfield, the winger’s second-half introduction made an immediate impact as he served up an assist for Ki Sung-Yeung in the 2-1 defeat. Johnson’s omission for last night’s crunch clash was a major shock – compounded once again by his display off the bench as he fired a consolation for the home side. Since the turn of the year, only Daniel Sturridge (11), Luis Suarez (10) Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure (eight apiece) have scored more times than Johnson’s seven strikes – indeed, with three assists also accrued, the wide man has played a part in 10 of his side’s 14 goals in 2014. Poyet’s decision to drop such a talismanic figure once again is baffling but surely, you’d reckon, if he’s to steer his side to safety, the 6.5-priced Johnson simply has to be handed a recall as Sunderland make their way to White Hart Lane next Monday night.

any wise owls got answer to this

In honour of TM I started a LMS league at work which kicked in this week.
two players are joint bottom (one may be a dog based character).
going by the cup rules where ties are decided by most goals scored in GW.
both only got goal from saurez, though one had him captain.
does this count as two goals technically?

If a cup match is drawn, then the following tie-breaks will be applied until a winner is found:

Most goals scored in the Gameweek
Fewest goals conceded in the Gameweek
          Virtual coin toss

Beric. AJ. Hold or drop? I'm struggling to find anything I like that I can afford, in other words something at 6M-ish or lower. The double and playing part in 10 out of 14 goals is inching me towards holding.

Starting to get desperate in my cash mini league, 6 weeks left to make up 59 points... I know it can definitely be done but surely some big punts will be needed soon.

The top 3 in my league all don't own Hazard at the moment and are bound to captain Suarez this week, is this the week for me to put the armband on Hazard and really hope he makes me some points up on them?

no no no. keep going as normal. last 2/3 weeks are when you should punt but now keep going. 10 points this week, 10 next and youll be right amongst it. dont captain suarez and it could all be over.

You're doing the right thing, I'm doing exactly the same thing. Chelsea need a reaction, no way they won't get at least a couple and Hazard sure to be involved. West ham at home are fairly solid....at least that's what I'm hoping.

Time to sell Gerrard? I am worried he won't play more than 70mins to avoid the yellow card.
But for who? Lallana has City away, AJ a poor pick as he is not nailed on, Nasri? But I already have Yaya and Silva...

It's hard to say, hot and cold player imo. I think he'll make a great effort if he feels like it.
England look to be split into several camps (gangs) which can't be productive for anyone.
Sadly, I've got to the stage where I don't actually care that much any more. They'll either sort it out or not. Either way there will be another bunch of mind bogglingly tedious cricket books on the shelves this Christmas or next. 🙂

G'day gents. GW 34 dilemma for me, to Aguero or not to Aguero?

The only way I can get Aguero in for the double is by losing... Sturridge and Baines 😐
I can do it without any hits.. But I'm not sure it's worth it. Losing Studge isn't my biggest concern, but taking out Baines for a DGW when he's playing sun and CPL for a 5.6 defender doesn't sound right. I already own Coleman + Lukaku so I already have 2 x Everton but only Yaya from City, so do you think it's worth it? (if Aguero is fit of course)

      Lose Studge ,
      Keep Baines ,
      Fund another way Don
      It's only 1.5 ish

But where mate? Bought Lallana last night (want to keep him), so that means I'll have to downgrade Yaya, Hazard, Suarez, Lukaku, Coleman or Azpi - and I don't want that.

IMHO I wouldn't have bought Lalkana last night ,
City away is tough. The following week would have done Don ,
          It looks tough now ,
The very reason you went for Baines was his dgw ,
Are you prepared to go without Aguero ?

It's a risk for sure, but I'm chasing and feel like Mourinho will want to risk very little at this point.

We are not exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment, and Hazard doesn't have enough goal threat to make me think of him as 'essential' in the run-in.

            Maybe this ...
Risky but getting Aguero (fit?) in is risky as well.
            You've boxed yourself in a little ,
Azpi > Flan fwiw , not gone on this either ....

Keep Baines as stated, I'd even rather ship Coleman since Baines have set pieces.
But keep em both for those games.
Why not bring in cheapy Dzeko, unfair bad rep here. 2 goals and 1 Ass in his last 2.
Even if Aguero comes on he wont be playing near 180 and it is a possibility that they play both Dzeko and Aguero.

Trying to figure out my team for DGW 34:

Doing Nolan + Sturridge ---> £11.7m MID + Dzeko (ffor free) I could get this team:

    MANNONE
    COLEMAN, Azpi, Cahill
    YAYA, Haz, Snod, ???£11.7m???
    Suarez, LUKAKU, DZEKO
