Andy Carroll grabs a goal and assist as the Hammers notch a sixth win in nine to boost their survival bid. Gus Poyet retains a three-man backline as Adam Johnson climbs off the bench to pick up the points yet again but the winger is unable to prevent Sunderland slipping to yet another loss:

Carroll the Hammers Hero
The big target man turned in a match-winning performance as West Ham took a major step towards safety last night. Having blanked over both home matches in double Gameweek 31, Carroll was sold on by almost 5,000 Fantasy Premier League managers but returned to form by scoring for the second away fixture in succession in a hard-fought 2-1 win on Wearside. The Geordie also provided the assist for Momo Diame’s strike and subsequently earned the maximum bonus points, though with games against Liverpool, Arsenal and City in the last six, the schedule looks tough for the Upton Park outfit. Nonetheless, if Sam Allardyce’s side are to find the net, there’s every chance Carroll will be involved – since his return from injury, he’s scored two and assisted four of the eight goals his side have netted when he’s been on the pitch.

Noble Ticking Over
The midfielder’s assist for Carroll’s opener took him past the 100-point mark as Noble whittles away Kevin Nolan’s lead as the Hammers’ top scoring Fantasy midfielder. Despite Carroll’s return from injury and suspension, Nolan has now drawn blanks in each of the last five – Noble has chipped in with a goal and pair of assists over that run and, with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 5.2-priced Hammers man moved level with Samir Nasri in the midfield standings and ahead of Santi Cazorla.

Poyet Retains 3-5-2 Formation
The Sunderland manager’s decision to roll out a 3-5-2 system at Anfield last Wednesday was, to an extent, understandable. Certainly, the 2-1 defeat suggested Poyet’s tactics had curtailed Luis Suarez and co, bearing in mind that match is the only time in their last eight that Brendan Rodgers’ side have failed to score at least three goals. A home game against West Ham looked a different proposition altogether but Poyet stuck to his guns and continued with Phil Bardsley at right wing-back, bringing in Marcos Alonso – who missed out through suspension against the Reds – on the opposite side of midfield. The formation also allowed Fabio Borini a rare chance as a centre-forward but, in a similar situation to last week, it was only when Poyet moved to a back-four that his side began to offer any real threat. Last night’s loss was Sunderland’s third in succession – up next, they face Spurs, Everton, City and Chelsea, and unless their manager can arrest their decline, many may be considering avoiding the Black Cats’ assets altogether despite a pair of doubles in their last six Gameweeks.

Johnson Delivers Off the Bench Again
Dropped for last week’s trip to Anfield, the winger’s second-half introduction made an immediate impact as he served up an assist for Ki Sung-Yeung in the 2-1 defeat. Johnson’s omission for last night’s crunch clash was a major shock – compounded once again by his display off the bench as he fired a consolation for the home side. Since the turn of the year, only Daniel Sturridge (11), Luis Suarez (10) Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure (eight apiece) have scored more times than Johnson’s seven strikes – indeed, with three assists also accrued, the wide man has played a part in 10 of his side’s 14 goals in 2014. Poyet’s decision to drop such a talismanic figure once again is baffling but surely, you’d reckon, if he’s to steer his side to safety, the 6.5-priced Johnson simply has to be handed a recall as Sunderland make their way to White Hart Lane next Monday night.

    Chasing more then 6 dgw-players in gw34 seems silly i think.
    Rather overrated since 3 out of 4 teams meet each other, only options from Everton and City for me.

        Defenders in that case.

        I can see a 0-0/1-0/1-1 against Villa and a 1-0/2-0 loss against Everton.

            Very. Gonna change up my game plan next year, build value by doing early transfers in the early stages of the season.

            My TV is killing me, ML rivals are 4-5m ahead and that will probably spells the end of my title hopes 🙁

    So I got Carroll in for the DGW, in preference to Lukaku, as I thought with two home games he was the better bet, especially against a punch drunk Utd defence..

    I then stick with the plan for GW32 and sell for Lukaku ready for DGW34...

    Well it seemed the right thing to do! 🙂

    Decision time for Mirallas - to keep or get rid?

    Sell Mirallas option
    GW33 - Nolan & Mirallas > Delph & Yaya (for free)
    GW34 - Frees up one Everton spot for Agger > Distin BUT no Aguero for DGW.

    Keep Mirallas option
    GW33 - Nolan > Delph, roll one FT over for next week.
    GW34 - Use 2 FTs either A) Snodgrass & Agger > Yaya & Distin (free and no Aguero), B) Snodgrass, Agger, Sturridge > Yaya, Dann, Aguero (-4)

    Apologies for the complicated post. For context, current team -

    Hart
    Coleman Agger Cahill Ward Chester
    Hazard Mirallas Nolan AJ Snodgrass
    Lukaku Sturridge Suarez

        I'd say Vlaar. Villa forget the art of defending at home and Fulham, if they're going to survive, will be thinking they can get a cheeky win here. Palace against Cardiff could be a ding donger or an absolute 0-0 bore fest. Ward as folks say has attacking threat though. Chester is totally meh but for the price. He's playing Swansea who are scoring quite freely with Michu (well not quite yet), Bony and DeGuzman in form.

            Try playing a draught league where I've had a similar dilemna where you can't pick up another player if someone has him. I was agonizing over Vlaar or Delaney as someone has Ward. I went with Delaney in the end. I need to get out more.

    those having coleman and baines for the DGW. what is your plan for them afterwards?

    united, soton and city are their three next fixtures... might just stick with coleman and hope for the best as I would want to transfer out one of them straight away after the double and don't want to create transfer headaches

        very short term thinking though. using a transfer to get baines in and then another transfer to lose him straight away. doesn't appeal. if my squad gets an injury in the DGW I will then need hits to re-balance the team

    I think we're all giving DGW34 too much importance. I will not build my team to fill it with the most DGW players I can for GW34 because this is something that can fireback later on.

    I will for GW37 though.

    I am not confident for the Aguero case. I feel the worst scenario is coming. He will be touch and go and he might only play 60 minutes over the two games. Might be a very bad move to get him too early eventually

        When I saw Kaboul's name on the watch list I thought it was a joke. Reminds me of the time when Maiga was up for a possible captaincy nomination. This was the bloke who couldn't hit a barn door for the Hammers and subsequently was loaned out to QPR where he can't score either. Strange times indeed.

    Marshall - Mannone
    Ivan - Coleman - Ward - Fonte - Evra
    Hazard - Gerrard - Y.Toure - Lallana - Sissoko
    Suarez - Sturridge - Lukaku

    2FTs and 0.4m ITB.

    Which two would you pick ?

    a) Sissoko -> Eriksen
    b) Sissoko -> AJ
    c) Sissoko -> Mutch

    1) Evra -> Zabaleta .. very high ownership
    2) Evra -> Demichelis .. nailed on?
    3) Evra -> Baines … only valid if I go with Mutch

          Ah, my bad - I didn't read your post properly.

          I'm not a fan of expensive 5th mids, so I'd go for Mutch (this will free up some cash as well for a potential Aguero move next week if you're interested?) . And even with Mutch, I'd still go for Zaba over Baines as he has better fixtures and 2 extra games.

      Mutch seems the way to go. Too bad I was hesitated this morning and let him rise in price.

      The DF choices are not conclusive, but I'm afraid of Zabaleta's ownership almost 800k managers.
