Arsenal climb above Everton into fourth spot after a 3-1 home win over West Ham. Lukas Podolski bags a brace, Olivier Giroud is also amongst the goals, whilst Aaron Ramsey catches the eye of Fantasy managers by delivering an assist in a brief second-half sub appearance:

Podolski at the Double
The German notched twice in his side’s win over West Ham, taking his tally to three strikes in his last four league appearances. Having powered Arsenal to a 2-2 draw against Swansea from the bench back in Gameweek 31, Podolski has been handed a starting berth in each of the Gunners’ last three games, with last night’s 13-point haul underlining his importance for Arsene Wenger’s out-of-sorts team. With maximum bonus points also accrued, the forward’s performance will have caught the attention of managers hunting for late-season differentials, and with the German coming in at 7.7 to Olivier Giroud’s 8.4, Podolski may well be the key beneficiary of Arsenal’s strong set of final fixtures (hul, NEW, WBA, nor).

Midfield Boost for Wenger
Having played 113 minutes in Saturday’s FA Cup Semi-Final win over Wigan, Aaron Ramsey was handed a second consecutive substitute appearance in the league following his return from injury. The Welshman’s impressive 18-minute cameo off the bench brought with it an assist for Podolski’s second and Arsenal’s third goal, suggesting that, as the midfield transfer market kicks into overdrive, he could still have a part to play in the remainder of our Fantasy seasons. With eight goals and seven assists in just 20 appearances, Ramsey – now down to 7.0 in FPL – is certainly the most budget-friendly of the Gunners’ attacking midfield options; Santi Cazorla’s assist last night takes the 9.3-priced Spaniard’s recent record to a trio of assists in his last 11 appearances, whilst Mesut Ozil – who is expected back in time for the weekend trip to Hull – still sits at 9.6.

Koscielny’s Return Not Enough to Ensure Clean Sheet
The centre-back made his first appearance since Gameweek 31, when he was brought off at half-time against Chelsea with a calf complaint. Fantasy managers would have been optimistic that the Frenchman’s reinstallation alongside Per Mertesacker might have brought to an end a run of meagre defensive displays that have seen Arsenal’s backline breached 12 times in their last four games. However, Koscielny’s return could not prevent the Gunners conceding yet again, making it only one clean sheet in the last eight games for the north London outfit. Managers should, however, take heed before rushing to get rid of Arsenal’s defensive assets – the aforementioned schedule could see that decision come back to haunt those who decide to jump ship.

Carroll’s Inconsistency Continues
Whilst Matt Jarvis found the net for only the second time this term last night, Carroll was unable to cause Arsenal’s backline much trouble, further highlighting the big Geordie’s inconsistency as a Fantasy option. Without Kevin Nolan to link up with, the frontman cut an isolated figure at the Emirates as the Hammers slumped to defeat and has now scored just twice in 11 appearances since recovering from injury. Big Sam’s side now entertain Crystal Palace this weekend knowing a win would take them onto the 40-point mark and, with Nolan possibly set to miss that one, too, Carroll’s contribution looks more vital than ever as the Hammers look to get the points on the board before squaring up to Tottenham and Man City in the final two Gameweeks.

    Lost on last post..

    What are you guys' thoughts on this...

    I think I'm making most of my transfers this week for the rest of the season.

    It's completely radical and crazy, but I'm considering it..

    So far this week I've done:
    Baines -> Cahill
    Yaya -> Gerrard
    Lallana -> Eriksen

    for -8, with Lambert -> Aguero eventually making it -12 once he survives tonight.

    Next week..
    AJ -> Ramsey
    Coleman -> Zab
    Nasri -> Mata

    for -8.

    Then that's the team I finish the season with hopefully, definitely no more hits after that anyway.
    The crazy thing is that I'm considering bringing the AJ -> Ramsey move forward a week, AJ has Chelsea away so screw that, but I've never taken a -16 before and I'd be doomed this week Overall Rank-wise, but it would set me up nicely for the run in.

    It's the same amount of points made on hits (-12 & -8) or (-16 & -4) but something is telling me that its far too much, even though I like each of the individual transfers..

    Whatcha think?

          Reported 😉 that'll do the trick!

          Aye but whether they're that level of an upgrade, it's just tough to recommend taking 20 points worth of hits over 2 weeks, not that they're bad transfers.

      Wowsers !!!!
      That's radical
      And I'm worried about a -4
      I see what your doing big time and like me you feel the games are running out ,
      Is this Panic or just inspired ?
      Only this weeks results will tell , no doubt your bringing in form players with the fixtures to boot and getting your house in order , a few goals / assists / baps could easily repay the hits.
      I really like it but I'm not endorsing this move either way right now !
      One q : do you need the cash from Baines this week ? ( he could deliver nice points )

        *Reposted Reply* 😉

        Yeah I needed the cash from Baines to fund Lambert -> Aguero and Cahill was going up in price so I jumped on board before the price rise!

        I like to think that it's inspired, not many people are going to take the hits necessary to get ALL of the good form players in, it might work out fantastically for me, or it might fail and send me crashing out of the top 10k..

        I think I'm going to go for it, first -16 ever that will set me up for the season 😎

      we are flat track bullies, so I think well be able to churn out the results...

      the only defender who is worth it is koscielny, maybe mertesacker if money is no object

      in midfield, I think chamberlain could be a great pick, as will the returning ramsey...ozil may tempt some, however without pacy outlets his effect is diminished somewhat, so I reckon chambo and Rambo are offer better value

      up top, the donkey may score a few, but I wouldn't count on him to get double figure scores...the man who could really make a difference is podolski...however its worth noting he rarely does anything away from home and is a rotation risk

      Ramsey, but since everyone is on that boat, would like to go with Özil but, aside from his price tag, it might be a little too soon

      Mainly focusing on the doubles but if Rooney is out then Giroud/Podolski could be a nice Lukaku replacement.

      Tinkering on Ramsey still.

      Just a defender for me. Need to offload my Baines/ Coleman combination in the coming weeks. One Arsenal defender and one cheapy DGWer coming in.
      Frees up the cash nicely.

    anyone got a sec?

    My current midfield:

    Gerrard YaYa Lallana Mirallas Noone

    currently planning to do:

    YaYa -> Silva
    Mirallas -> Eriksen
    [-4]

    Look ok? Problem being that i'll then have to ditch Stevie G to get Mata next week...and i quite want Rambo as well! Should i just forget Silva?

          I think Def is safer , and I can't see me paying 13.6/5 for Rvp.

    Like JOE90 yesterday, I wonder whether this is the highest scoring FPL season ever? Like JOE, I am also in my 5th season, and I have also now exceeded my previous highest total, when I finished 3,852nd in 2010-11 with 2,148 FPL points. If I had 2,148 points now then my current position would only be about 8k. And there are still 4 and a bit GWs to go!

    The main reason for the high scores is probably the large number of bonus points awarded, especially to defenders. No less than 72 bonus points have been awarded in the first 9 matches this GW - that's an average of 8 per game. In previous seasons the average was probably not much more than 6. If repeated every GW, this would amount to an additional 760 FPL points over a full season.

    If more goals than usual have been scored this season then that could be another contributory factor. Other factors might be that more popular players are scoring consistently well without missing too many matches compared with previous seasons, so that we are more likely to have these high-scoring players in our squads, and that Suarez has been such an obvious and successful captain choice for most of the season. But the main reason is probably the increased number of bonus points awarded.
