We’ve plenty to mull over in this week’s Monday lunchtime regular. The return of Arsenal’s talismanic Welshman, Liverpool’s young wide man, the worrying form of United ahead of the double Gameweek, Sunderland’s stunning turnaround in fortunes and Everton’s full-backs are amongst today’s topics:

Defences are struggling to cope with Sterling…
Never mind the SAS. Regardless of Steven Gerrard’s potential from the spot and dead-ball situations, Sterling’s price, current form and potential to explode points makes him the midfield option in Liverpool’s title chasing side right now. Jordan Henderson’s suspension has allayed any fears of rotation, and whilst many were expecting another huge points haul from Luis Suarez at Carrow Road, it was Sterling who destroyed the Canaries’ backline to serve up an 18-point return – his highest of the season – ahead of next weekend’s crucial home clash with Chelsea.

Caution is required with the United assets…
After yesterday’s showing at Goodison, can we really invest heavily in David Moyes’ ailing side for the Gameweek 37 double? A disappointing display at both ends of the pitch gave us little reason for optimism and next week’s opponents Norwich will be not only buoyed by their second-half fightback against Liverpool, they’ll also take comfort in a home record which has seen United win one of their last four at Old Trafford and seven times all season. There’s also uncertainty at the back – are Jonny Evans and Alexander Buttner now double Gameweek options as Moyes attempts to plan for next season? Up front, the stats make for grim reading – in their last two matches, United have taken over 11 minutes to fire in an effort on goal – both Sunderland and Crystal Palace have surpassed that.

And with Hull and Villa….
A couple of months back, Villa looked clear of danger but have been dragged back into the mire after a series of poor results. Paul Lambert’s side have beaten the likes of Arsenal, City and Chelsea and are the last team to leave Anfield with any points, yet still teeter just five points clear of the drop zone. With Christian Benteke sidelined for a number of months, few will be willing to gamble on Villa for the run-in – take away the 4-1 win over Norwich in Gameweek 28 and they’ve scored a total of four times in nine of the last 10 matches. Steve Bruce’s charges are equally unconvincing. One goal in the last three and a trio of defeats in four suggest the Tigers have one eye on the upcoming FA Cup Final – with three successive road trips prior to a home game with Everton on the final day of the season, they’ve done little to persuade us they may be worth our attention for the double.

But Sunderland sources could yet prove fruitful…
The performances at the Etihad and Stamford Bridge suggest we could well see the Black Cats emerge as a strong source of points from back to front in the remaining Gameweeks. Gus Poyet’s side looked dead and buried this time last week, but a draw at City followed by their shock win against Jose Mourinho’s men set them up nicely ahead of a run of three Stadium of Light fixtures in the final three Gameweeks, with the attacking endeavours of Connor Wickham, Fabio Borini and Adam Johnson looking just as crucial as Vito Mannone’s heroics in goal.

Ramsey’s stock has gone full circle…
The Welshman is now firmly back on the radar after a superb performance in yesterday’s hammering of Hull. Ramsey’s goal and pair of assists have already earned him a price rise, and with back-to-back home games against West Brom and Newcastle preceding a trip to Norwich, Arsenal’s fixtures suggest his double-figure return at the KC may not be his last before the season draws to a close.

Eriksen is deadly from the deadball…
The Dane’s two assists against Fulham underlined his ability to deliver from set-pieces. While Fulham were abject in their defending, Eriksen’s whipped crosses proved unplayable and are an effective weapon in his armoury as a Fantasy asset. With four goals, five assists and 11 bonus points in his last five appearances, his end-of-season form has been outstanding and underlines just how crucial he will be to our Fantasy plans next term – providing Spurs can retain his services.

Bony will be another “most wanted”….
The Swansea striker took his season tally to 14 for the season as it becomes increasingly clear that he will emerge as a key mid-price asset next term. There’s little doubt that we’ll see a price hike for the Swansea man, but, should his value hover around the 9.0 mark, there’s little doubt that he’ll be of major interest – particularly with the likes of Jay Rodriguez sidelined for up to six months and Romelu Lukaku potentially linked with a move overseas.

The Baines and Coleman Debate Will Rage On…
Both Everton full-backs served up double-figure returns in yesterday’s win over United, with Baines looking to chase down his team-mate at the top of the defender standings after a strong last few Gameweeks. Coleman sits first for defenders on 174 points – a tally beaten by only three midfielders – whilst Baines’ 158 points, third amongst defenders, would be enough to earn him fifth in the midfield rankings. Certainly, a price hike for Coleman looks on the cards next term, but if the Toffees can clinch European football for 2014/15, Roberto Martinez’ midfield rotation may well persuade us to keep him and Baines on our radars. The arguments for both are more than valid – Baines continues to benefit from spot-kicks and set-pieces, yet Coleman’s consistent ability to deliver from open play means he is now just four points away from equalling his team-mate’s best-ever Fantasy haul with three matches remaining.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

However, the remarks referred to above that the club made earlier in the season just underline the sheer arrogance of the club.

          I wouldn't argue with that.

It went wrong when he was appointed and not interviewed.

Not sure how it can be a sign of arrogance to keep him though. Recent history shows he wouldn't have lasted this long at City, Liverpool or Chelsea but it is impossible to argue that he is making progress so I'd like to see him go and bring in someone who isn't intimidated by the size of the job.

Moyes was never the right man in the first place for United. Doing well at Everton for over a decade on a shoestring budget is one thing, but managing a club like United is a totally different job which requires a totally different skill set. Far too many times this season we've seen Moyes take a small club approach to his job - poor results against the bigger clubs, withholding injury details, blaming the congested fixture list, playing players out of their best positions, failure to spend money wisely, no sense of establishing a playing philosophy or longer term direction of travel...

Could he grow into the role? maybe, but that's a pretty big risk the owners would have to take given the cost of prolonged failure. If they've lost confidence in his ability to get to grips with the demands of the job, then they're doing the right thing in getting rid now. Letting him spend money through another transfer window would just be throwing good money after bad.

It's not SAF's fault, although I do think his judgement was wrong in picking Moyes. It's the fault of the owners in letting SAF pick his successor - the position is far too important to allow one man to fill the position based on his personal misguided preference.

They could not know what would happen when they appointed him, therefore it's hard to judge anyone - at least, for me it is.

NOW, however, not very much suggests he's the right man for United, and therefore, letting him go could very much be the right thing to do.

United tried to give Moyes time - but he was the wrong appointment for the Club & should have kept a few members of the backroom staff (Phelan) to aid the transition.

As an LFC fan it was a shock that he was given the top Club job in the country and whilst i didnt feel the Champions were a "great" team, somehow whisky nose drove them to an easy title in the end.

Moyes spent money at Everton - not to the same level "big" clubs but he did have cash and his better deals\ were that of bringing lower league players through - whilst his tactics & formations simply never were the most exciting? He played a certain way as an under dog, he was allowed to.

His style suited Cahill and Felliani getting into the box late anf they became hugely important players for Moyes.

In the 10 seasons at Everton - can you recall a striker with a good scoring record?? He has simply never developed a style to suit strikers and at United he has failed to get the girth of forward talent onto the ball enough in the right area's.

His away record was decent but his best performance arguably came v Bayern Munich - why, as he went back to playing the tactics of the underdog and it almost paid off.

So why did he get the job?
Not re-known for style of play.
    Not know for attacking play.
    Regularly reverts to long balls.
Not really managed world class stars

So did he get the job as he was a friend of SAF? After all SAF also made a few poor decisions in the transfer market based others opinions was this one of those?

    Thoughts?

I think he was given the job because he reminded SAF of himself. Unfortunately, SAF failed to realise that the team, club and world of football are entirely different now. I also think the expectation for Moyes to become the exact same as SAF was incredibly unfair and the entire board is to blame for that.

Moyes gone would be the right call really.
He's just not a top tier manager - and it's not fair on him to expect him to be able to do it.
Look at every walk of life, there are people of the top caliber and there are those who are formidable.
For every Bob Dylan there's 20 Daniel Powters.
For every Christiano Ronaldo there's 1000 Darren Bents.
For every Brendan Rodgers / Jose Mourinho / Ferguson / Simeone / Guardiola / Klopp - you have leagues full of men like Moyes.
The former are men who look at a football pitch and visualize how they want to break a team down. Football isn't simply - ''Ah we'll give him another year'' - he'll get the lads fit and they'll do their best. Football has become much more complicated than that. It takes innovation to in big games, it takes tactics. It does not take players doing their best, while that is a huge part of it - managers set the guidelines for big games to be won.
Moyes does not have this. I'm sorry - it's something he simply doesn't have. He's a good manager for a side outside the top four but he has given us no reason to believe he is the man for this huge job.
I'm not a United fan, nor do I hate the club, nor do I dislike Moyes. I support Spurs and if he were to come to WHL next year I wouldn't be too angry about it, though I'd prefer an International manager with a bit more spark, or even Sherwood (Though I miss AVB).
But if he is fired, it is the right decision. This year has been a farce really.

Jose once said he didn't want to be the guy to follow Fergie, he wanted to be the guy to the follow that guy as whoever followed Fergie was on a hiding to nothing. How right he may be.

agree with that too, the way he's conducted himself this season would not sit well at all.

Or last season, or the season before that, he's been relatively well behaved at Chelsea compared to Madrid / Inter..

Ha so true. It's seriously hard to imagine any of the other top candidates for the job doing such a bad job though.

Have you ever noticed that on FPL flags they occasionally have people out with knocks? Moyes has been preparing for this for a while, expect niggles and has a chance to become FPL flags next season

    Which are you hoping for:

    A) Moyes stays until the end of the season
    B) Moyes stays on next year
    C) Moyes sacked with immediate effect

and if he's out, is there anyone other than Klopp / Van Gaal that people would genuinely like to see take over? There are great managers out there, but you need someone to get the best out of an aging, egotistical, all over the place squad.

I actually think Mourinho would work there, but that won't happen.

C with Giggs for the next few games and then Van Gaal with Giggs as assistant.

I think it all depends on who they've got lined up to replace him. If the united board think they've got a good chance of getting Klopp or Simeone then I think get rid. If not then I would give him till Xmas. Another option would be to ask giggs to do a job this season and then get Gary Neville after the WC. Has the respect of the dressing room, knows the united set up and would be a top manager IMO.

Welbeck says he's going to leave.... Moyes goes.

      Conclusion:
      Welbeck > Moyes

His style of football is too complicated and fast for most of United's players, Kagawa Rooney and Mata would be great at it and everyone else would play like crap.

If Moyes goes before the Norwich and DGW 37 would Rooney and Mata be better options to bring in than they are now?

    Giroud or Podolski?

-Podolski low ownership and in fine form
-Giroud ticking over and spearhead of the attack.
