Wayne Rooney is a doubt for United due to illness and a groin problem. Phil Jagielka is likely to return for Everton’s clash with Man City, though Sylvain Distin is doubtful. Felix Magath has concerns over Steve Sidwell ahead of the crunch clash with Stoke. Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong is available for selection ahead of the Cardiff encounter. Leandro Bacuna returns for Aston Villa, though Joe Bennett remains a doubt. Arsenal rule out an injured trio for the visit of West Brom, whilst Bacary Sagna is a worry due to a knee problem:

Wayne Rooney will be assessed over the next 24 hours as he struggles to overcome a bug and a tight groin problem. Ryan Giggs has revealed “a few of the lads have had a bug”, and is undecided on Robin Van Persie, going on to say “Whether tomorrow is too early we’ll just see how he goes today”.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Sylvain Distin has returned to training, with a late decision set to be made on the Frenchman’s availability against Man City. Phil Jagielka is in contention to feature, with Martinez “quite confident” the skipper will be in the squad, whilst the Toffees boss has allayed injury fears for Leighton Baines, stressing that the left-back will be fine to feature at the weekend. Steven Pienaar remains sidelined, though Martinez is hopeful the South African will make a return before the end of the season.

Steve Sidwell is Felix Magath’s main injury concern ahead of the crucial meeting with Stoke at the weekend, after the midfielder came off against Hull with a knock last week. Magath has no other injury worries, and could welcome back Kostas Mitroglou to the squad, after confirming the striker had trained all week.

Newcastle will welcome back loan-signing Luuk de Jong into the squad to face Cardiff this weekend, with the forward having recovered from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa was not involved in training with the main group, casting doubt over the attacker’s game time as the season draws to a close.

Leandro Bacuna has recovered from the virus that forced him off at half-time against Swansea last week, and is available for selection ahead of Villa’s clash with Hull. Joe Bennett though, remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are expected to have the same squad from the win over Newcastle when they take on West Brom at the weekend, with Arsene Wenger ruling out out Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Although the left-back has returned to training, his manager admits he will be “a bit short” for Sunday, whilst no time-scale has been put on the returns of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Bacary Sagna is rated as 50-50 after picking up a knee problem.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar has admitted that his absence on the pitch in recent weeks is down to a hip injury. The Brazilian is wary of exacerbating the injury and risk missing the World Cup, though hopes to feature in the final game of the season against Cardiff.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Yep true. Have to leave him in anyway as it's a DGW so he could end up playing the second game and it would be misleading. I just won't captain him now

I've not had a DGW yet where each of my DGW players have played twice - there always seems to be some sort of injury or a tactical rest preventing this from happening. And I'm sure I'm not alone here, either - so this Rooney news isn't entirely unexpected to me. A lot of people in the same boat.

    Who would you start?

    A) Rooney - will probably only play one game if even, potentially injured groin might affect his performance, he's facing competition from other strikers.

    B) Eriksen - SGW, but against a very poor West Ham, and he should score well against them.

One will drop to my 1st sub..

Play Rooney, 1st sun Eriksen - can't see Roo getting a 5 min cameo, so he'll play a chunk of one or both games (or nothing at all). If he doesn't play at all you'll get Eriksen in anyway. Only real concern is Roo starts and has to come off early

If you have even slightly similar teams and don't have a different captain, then you'll be fine. Even with a captain difference, they'd need a massive haul and you not to own the same player.

    My team:

    Harper (K Davis)

    Baines - Ferdinand - Demi - Flannagan

    Yaya - Eriksen - Mata

    Lukaku - Rooney - Suarez

    Subs: Puncheon - Stones - S Davis

Aguero needs to come in but in depends on Rooney I guess...

    So
    A) Lukaku and Baines > Aguero and Brown
    b) Suarez > Aguero
    c) Rooney and Lukaku > Aguero and Wickham/Welbeck
    D) Rooney and Baines > Aguero and Evra/Zaba

Ha ha, I like that. Worried about my lack of DGW coverage though, rest of squad is:
          Boruc Speroni
          Baines Ivanovic Chester Coleman Mariappa
          Mata YYT Eriksen Ramsey Mutch

Any more moves are for hits, any thoughts?

          Cheers for reply.

Think Giggs will start Rvp if Rooney is out for tomorrow.
And that Rooney will start behind Rvp in the second game

RVP can't start 2 games in 4 days immediately after being injured for 8 weeks

He's been training for the last week, but you'll might be right. Could also be that he needs game time to get fit for WC.

I was confident at the start of the week. But now with Yaya and Aguero being most peoples captains and Rooney being ill/injured. I'm unsure what to do.

    Mannone
    Demichelis / Baines / Evra
    Eriksen / Mata / Nasri / Puncheon
    Dzeko / Suárez / Rooney

    Boruc / Barkley / Coleman / Olsson

    Any advice would be brilliant.

    Opinions?

    1) Stick with Rooney - Captain Mata (currently on -4)
    2) Rooney > Wickham Captain Mata (-8)
    3) Rooney > Wichham & Dzeko > Aguero (-12) Captain Aguero

Other choices. I have Yaya as a possible captain choice but I am 42k rank and already won a casual friends minileague. So I don't mind a few risks to get close to 10k.

for those interested in a welbeck to rooney move.

welbeck actually had a really good spell from gw16 to 21 scoring 7 in 7 and an assist, he played the full 90 gw22 and after that moyes barely played him. no wonder he got the sack.

no form though he is a gamble but uncertainty around rooney rvp game time could be worth it

    thoughts?

    My team:

    Mannone (Speroni)
    Evra Bardsley Distin (Ward) (Dann)
    Eriksen Nasri Mata AJ (Barkley)
    Aguero Dzeko Suarez

Was originally going to do Suarez - Rooney and rely on the palace defenders.

With the latest news I'm tempted to bring in a United defender for Distin, however the only ones I can afford are smalling, ferdinand and evans.

Which way would you go with this team?

Aguero the safest bet for game time, but I might want both
