James Rodriguez scores both goals as Colombia eliminate a Luis Suarez-less Uruguay. Earlier in the evening, Brazil defeat Chile on spot-kicks after finishing all-square after 120 minutes, with David Luiz and Alexis Sanchez grabbing the goals in normal time:

Hosts Scrape Through on Penalties
Phil Scolari’s side squeezed past Chile with an unconvincing display that may have many Fantasy managers thinking twice over loading up on their main assets. Defensively, Brazil have failed to impress so far and now have a single clean sheet in four appearances, though David Luiz continues to deliver the returns – he added to his recent assist against Cameroon with the opener in yesterday’s win.

Up top, Neymar, having scored twice in two of his first three appearances, was an armband favourite for many but the Barcelona man was limited to just a single shot on target, with three of his efforts wayward. Indeed, the hosts had 23 attempts over the 120 minutes but mustered a mere six on target in a below-par display.

Scolari made one change for yesterday’s game, with Man City’s Fernandinho coming in for Paulinho in the centre of the park. The Brazil boss has a midfield dilemma for the upcoming clash with Colombia, though – Luis Gustavo’s yellow card means he is set to serve a one-match suspension.

Sanchez Strikes Again
Jorge Sampaoli also made a single alteration, bringing in Arturo Vidal for Felipe Gutierrez, with Charles Aranguiz dropping deeper in the centre of the park to accommodate the Juventus man. Once again, Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas were in the points for Chile – the former’s equaliser means he ended the tournament with two goals and an assist, while Vargas, having teed up Sanchez’ strike, delivered a goal and two assists over his four appearances.

In the FIFA McDonalds game, the Brazil back-four impressed for recovered balls. Marcelo’s 13 was top, with Luis Gustavo (10) Thiago Silva (nine), David Luiz (eight) and Dani Alves (seven) next in line. For Chile, Francisco Silva led the way with 10, followed by Marcelo Diaz and Gary Medel, with nine apiece, and Charles Aranguiz, Mauricio Isla and Euguenio Mena, with seven.

Rodriguez at the Double
The Colombia midfielder is staking a real claim for player of the tournament after yet another superb showing last night. Rodriguez’s outstanding opener, followed by a tap-in, took his tally to five goals for the campaign – top scorer in the World Cup thus far – and with a couple of assists also to his name, the Monaco man has proven to be a must-have across the Fantasy games.

Elsewhere in the midfield, Juan Cuadrado also served up the points for the fourth consecutive appearance. The winger’s assist means he now has a goal and four assists for the tournament and underlines his budget-friendly appeal – doubling up on the Colombia midfield pair has proven to be a canny tactic so far and owners will surely hold ahead of the Brazil game, given that Jose Pekerman’s side having scored at least twice in all four of their fixtures so far.

Personnel-wise, having rang the changes in the final group game against Japan, Pekerman recalled his first-choice options for last night’s 2-0 win. Keeper David Ospina and left-back Pablo Armero in defence, Fantasy favourite Cuadrado on the right and Jackson Martinez, who was rewarded for his two-goal salvo against the Japanese with his second start of the tournament.

In the FIFA McDonalds game, Cristian Zapata and Abel Aguilar managed nine recovered balls for Colombia, with Juan Zuniga next best on five. For Uruguay, Martin Caceres was top with seven, while Diego Godin and Egidio Arevalo-Rios registered five apiece.

James reminds me of Nasri. James isn't quite there yet but one day he'll be as good as him.

But I do agree that he isnt quite there yet. However, to compare him to Nasri is a bit insulting. Nasri will never be there.

must say it really makes me laugh - this typical argument from a dad in a tracksuit with his ten year old doing kick up's next to him, pointing at him with this thumb and saying, conspiratorially, ' how can i explain this to him? '

well, dad. Everyone has been quite clear that this has been an awful thing to do. you would have to be a right old wrong un to have come out of this episode thinking it is quite ok to bite someone on the pitch.

French media (just saw this from French TV) reports Sakho trained on his own again, so 90% chance they play Kosc+Varane.
Pogba should retain starting role so France should play:
    Lloris
    Debuchy, Varane, Kosc, Evra
    Cabaye, Pogba, Matuidi
    Valbuena, Benzema, Griezmann

Actually..In the first half they played him just behind the other two CB's as a sort of sweeper/cover...but like you say Colombia didn't get that far very often. In the second half he got involved a lot more as Uruguay went looking for a goal. It was a shame because he looked a steal at that price after they played Italy.

According to AFP (h/t France24), the majority of Algeria's players have decided to fast in spite of the potential health risks posed, particularly dehydration and injuries associated therewith. Captain Madjid Bougherra told the French source he would at least attempt to fast: "Personally, I’m going to see what my physical state is, but I think I can do it."

Although many are strict and orthodox in their beliefs on fasting during Ramadan, others are more pragmatic. Speaking at a press conference in Recife earlier this week (via T-Online in German), Ozil admitted he would not fast due to his involvement in the tournament.

No true Muslim would allow him to stop them. Otherwise it goes against the whole point of fasting in the first place.

This WC every round in McD's really is pants....a couple of transfers per week would have been plenty.

Just from last nights game alone every single team will have Zapata Rodriguez Cuadrado...every single one !! It's going to end up as a bad as Fox.

      I disagree with this.

Those players wont score points every single game.

The trick is ignoring those players & picking the players that will score well in the next round, not the last round.

Mexico have only trailed once at HT in the last 29 competitive games. 10 of their last 12 goals at the World Cup have been in the 2nd half. They had the lowest shot count in group A. Also been knocked out at this round in the last 5 World Cups. Record V European teams at WC W4 D5 L2

Holland and the most shots in their group and most goals overall in WC. Only lost twice in last 22 games to CONCACAF and South American sides. Unbeaten over 90 minutes in 10 straight WC matches (W9 D1) RVP goals in 9/11 competitive games and 5/6 for Robben.
Holland 3W 1D in last 4 games v Mexico scoring 2+ goals each.

Last game at WC Holland were 2-0 up and Mexico scored twice in last 15 mins to end the game 2-2 after 90 mins.

Looks like being tight game but Holland having too much in the end and I am going to go for a 2-0 Holland win.

I don't know where Beavis was getting that rubbish from about Löw not allowing Mustafi, Özil & Khedira to fast during Ramadan. Check your facts before writing something like that, for goodness sake.

German FA president Wolfgang Niersbach reached an agreement with the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD) before the tournament started that the Ramadan requirements could be fulfilled at a later date by German team members. It's always been the case that exceptions can be made for sportsmen, pregnant women and people who are ill.

Özil had already said pre-tournament that he wouldn't be able to observe Ramadan as he was 'working'.

    http://www.goal.com/de/news/829/dfb-team/2014/06/29/4922709/fastenmonat-ramadan-spielt-bei-dfb-team-keine-rolle

That the usual suspects on the board would then mention Hitler and racism in the comments beneath the post is symptomatic of where a lot of the FFS community has descended to - ignorant and offensive.
