Our Friday evening members regular, analysing the armband options in the Gameweek ahead, arrives once again. We continue with a three-part approach, taking in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Gameweek poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

The Captain Poll

For the first time this term, the Captain Poll is less conclusive as four teams are represented in the top five places. Wayne Rooney takes top spot for the second time in three Gameweeks – despite last week’s blank at Sunderland, the United man has received over 36% of the votes cast as Louis van Gaal’s side make their way to promoted Burnley. Team-mate Juan Mata earns just over 3% of votes by comparison, though he has scored seven times in his last eight league appearances.

City pair Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero are also prevalent in our armband thoughts. After bagging a brace against Liverpool – and, crucially, starting both matches so far – Jovetic is narrowly ahead of the Argentine by 14% to 10%. Aguero’s two goals in just 31 minutes off the bench sums up his points potential, though, and there’s a feeling he could run riot against Stoke if let off the leash from the first whistle. Given how protective Manuel Pellegrini has been so far, there’s no doubt Aguero is the riskier of the two but he certainly has the ability to deliver if afforded the pitch time by his manager.

Aaron Ramsey splits the City pair in third spot. Suspended for Arsenal’s midweek Champions League win over Besiktas, he’ll be fully refreshed as the Gunners roll up to Leicester on Sunday and is looking to get on the scoresheet for the third successive Gameweek.

Gylfi Sigurdsson sits fifth in the Poll after picking up the points in both his appearances so far. With a home clash against West Brom on the horizon, Garry Monk’s side will be looking to the playmaker to lead them to a third successive win – Sigurdsson has convinced 7% of backers to hand him the armband against the Baggies.

With so much uncertainty surrounding Diego Costa’s minutes this weekend, few look likely to opt for a Chelsea player as their Gameweek 3 captain – Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have been selected by 2% and 1% respectively. Similarly, faith in Tottenham and Liverpool’s attackers seems limited as the pair go head-to-head at the Lane – Erik Lamela leads the way from our contenders with 1% of votes, suggesting the Argentine, along with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, could be a real left-field armband pick this weekend if Sunday’s encounter can serve up the goals.

    Done...I think...

Sadly due to a poor start ditched my Baines team on a WC and had a rethink..Did well at guess the prices though

    Kriul Elliot

    Dummett Debuchy PVA Dier Hutton

    Sanchez. Silva. Hazard Siggy

    Adebayor. Jovetic. Sturridge. (0.6)

Sorely tempted by Balotelli over Sturridge though just for the thrills...or maybe not...

I actually think he could oust Walker, hardly impressed with the latter recent years. It is a gamble nonetheless. Rest of the bunch looks good.

if Balotelli didn't do the off-field stuff, no one would look at him. Striker who went abroad, scored goals but a lot of penalties, and gets a lot of yellows.

Looks good. 🙂 Not convinced by Alexis' performance mid-week, but the goal will do him a lot of good. Nice little punt.

            Quite.

Lots of alternatives around 9ish allows you to ramp up elsewhere.
Surprised you've got Hutton in prior to Villa's nightmare of fixtures.....
You thinking they'll stay clean or is he bench fodder ?

Bench fodder and playing him this week...I think Villa are a lot better than they are being given credit for at the back...Plenty of clubs would happily have Vlaar and Senderos at CB...

                Hmmmm...will watch carefully.
Switched Vlaar for Ivan this week after the knock and an eye on the next 6 weeks.

He'd be good to get back in if they develop their spine with Roy barking at them in training.

I'd never play a Villa player in those tough fixture but it wouldn't surprise me if they kept a C/s even in those....Hutton looks like he has an assist or two in him as well on early showings.

On wildcard surely you want Aguero in your team why not go Sturridge to Aguero and Silva to Sterling and find a way to get Rooney for Jovetic.

Those worried about a cameo appearance from Costa... I can't really see it happening. If he's fit to play he will start. If he's not fit to start, I don't see why Jose would bring him on for a cameo, as it would not only risk aggravating the injury, but make him look fit enough to travel with Spain for internationals. Barring them being absolutely desperate for a goal, it seems quite unlikely. He starts or doesn't feature at all imo. Always the risk he does a Champs League final and goes straight off injured though.

I think Sanchez and Dzeko will be top performers this GW. I like my arsenal double up (Ramsey). Expecting an explosion after cl-relief.
If he fails yet again I'll just go Hazard.
One think I learned over the course of the last few seasons: never buy a player of whom you think he will perform in 2 or 3 gameweeks time due to fixtures. Always go for the next GW and dont be afraid to take hits for potential hauls as injuries will scupper your plans yet again.

Costa having 2 days off training is classic international break play by the club, will play, score and not be quite right to go off to Spain 😆 perfection

3 pints Veltins (fancy German lager)
1 can Stella on the train
    1 bottle cheap Pinot Noir
    Spaghetti Carbonara - delicious

New to the fantasy forum, so hey all!

Defensive dilemma this week, interested in which three others would go with from:

Caulker (H SUN), Cahill (A EVE), Dummet (H CRY), Chambers (A LEI)

Note: I've got Krul in goal, currently leaning towards leaving out Dummett.

    Krul

    Cahill Bruce Debuchy

    Mata Ramsey Fabregas (Henderson) Sigurdsson

    Rooney Costa (Fletcher)

    () haven't decided yet.

    Thoughts?

Rooney or Jovetic for the armband?

    Can't decide

Rooney will play 90 minutes against a promoted club. But manchester united are struggling

Jovetic play stoke at home and he is in form (as his team). But goalscorers are hard to predict in City and jovetic might not play 90 minutes

Jovetic if you want to play risky. Rooney safe option.

Yes. Very likely. ozil took one vs Bayern and he missed. After the game Wenger said, he dient have any penalty takers on but I cant remember whether Santi was one. Will be between the two. Sanchez takes penalties for Chile..
