Our Friday evening members regular, analysing the armband options in the Gameweek ahead, arrives once again. We continue with a three-part approach, taking in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Gameweek poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

The Captain Poll

For the first time this term, the Captain Poll is less conclusive as four teams are represented in the top five places. Wayne Rooney takes top spot for the second time in three Gameweeks – despite last week’s blank at Sunderland, the United man has received over 36% of the votes cast as Louis van Gaal’s side make their way to promoted Burnley. Team-mate Juan Mata earns just over 3% of votes by comparison, though he has scored seven times in his last eight league appearances.

City pair Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero are also prevalent in our armband thoughts. After bagging a brace against Liverpool – and, crucially, starting both matches so far – Jovetic is narrowly ahead of the Argentine by 14% to 10%. Aguero’s two goals in just 31 minutes off the bench sums up his points potential, though, and there’s a feeling he could run riot against Stoke if let off the leash from the first whistle. Given how protective Manuel Pellegrini has been so far, there’s no doubt Aguero is the riskier of the two but he certainly has the ability to deliver if afforded the pitch time by his manager.

Aaron Ramsey splits the City pair in third spot. Suspended for Arsenal’s midweek Champions League win over Besiktas, he’ll be fully refreshed as the Gunners roll up to Leicester on Sunday and is looking to get on the scoresheet for the third successive Gameweek.

Gylfi Sigurdsson sits fifth in the Poll after picking up the points in both his appearances so far. With a home clash against West Brom on the horizon, Garry Monk’s side will be looking to the playmaker to lead them to a third successive win – Sigurdsson has convinced 7% of backers to hand him the armband against the Baggies.

With so much uncertainty surrounding Diego Costa’s minutes this weekend, few look likely to opt for a Chelsea player as their Gameweek 3 captain – Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have been selected by 2% and 1% respectively. Similarly, faith in Tottenham and Liverpool’s attackers seems limited as the pair go head-to-head at the Lane – Erik Lamela leads the way from our contenders with 1% of votes, suggesting the Argentine, along with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, could be a real left-field armband pick this weekend if Sunday’s encounter can serve up the goals.

Could be an awful gameweek if Rooney Mata and Jovetic blank, then have to sit and watch Costa start and score

Soz if I put u off.....it's gotta be something pretty special for me to (c) an early kick off and Rooneys performance against Sunderland did not cut it. He was my original choice tho.

Here's one way of deciding your captaincy....

Give each candidate you are considering a score out of 5 for each of the following key (IMO) factors:

    - Form
    - Proven quality (I.e. Form is temporary, class is permanent)
    - Fixture (taking into account their team and the opposition)
    - Nailed on ness

Add each one up and captain the winner!

      Ramsey:

      5/5
      4/5
      4/5
      5/5

You could throw in another category for bookie odds (anytime scorer and anytime assister) and you have a half-decent metric actually.

Im thinking about taking a hit,

    with

    Costa to Aguero
    Debuchy to Dummett or Wisdom.

Which player is the more nailed on of the two defenders? (Krul is the only player I have from these to defenders teams). Is this worth a FT and -4?

Did some brief lurking during the day and saw Costa was dominating the discussion. The decision for me is quite simple, he has paved the way for Torres to go to Milan.

Get out of my team Costa.

Long term will be hard to call. So much depth in the team now.

Think this is most likely. Worry for Studge's output playing with Balo. Suarez assisted 12 times last season, Balo assisted once in his entire City career

I'm really struggling to make my mind up on my front 3. What's your opininions?

      A. Aguero, adebayor, Rooney
      B. Aguero, jovetic, Rooney

I'd double up on man city but their fixtures aren't great after stoke...

Not sure, what to do now.. Reports of Costa been passed as fit, Then you have Aguero who is fit but prob wont play the full 90, and who will he come in for? Jovetic had a great last game, but Dzeko also fit and normally Pelegrini's other go to striker so is Jovetic at risk of losing spot. There is the option of bringing in Sanchez in Mid which could result in Decent Points but has started slowly while Ramsey has been in Great form over the past 2 gw.. Sigh.. What are others opinions on choosing these players?

the city "problem" is making this one of the hardest game weeks ever to call correctly - I'm really annoyed that I pulled the trigger on my wildcard a day early thinking. I had three players (as well as two I'd already subbed out) who looked like they were going to be missing and now all passed fit.

I think Jov will and has to start but if Dzeko starts Jov will be the one hauled off if that makes sense?

        So either

        Dzeko Jov (aguero 60)
        Or
        Aguero (Dzeko 60) Jov

        Aaaarrrgh

How risky is Sanchez Siggy Eriksen Hazard as a midfield....Sanchez's stats are no better than Ramsey's but can he kick on now ?...and will he ?

I'm tempted by starting PVA over Cahill.

Madness, probably, but I fancy Everton to score.

Regarding my : 'do i have the nads to captain caulker' right now its on ramsey and if i wake up tomorrow with the gut feeling of caulker i will change it and hide behind the sofa.... but for now safely on rambo.

I'm tempted by Caulker. Currently Rooney is wearing it.

Might end up captaining Caulker at 11:29:58 tomorrow morning.

Yep, it's my Tim Krul for a penalty shootout moment - genius if it works and a laughing stock if it doesn't. GW 3 is the best time to do this of course.

Much higher chance of 4 points captaining Caulker than an attacking player

      My Team:
      Bego (Myhill)
      Jones Coloccini Caulker Debuchy (Bruce)
      Siggy Ramsey Hazard Erikson (Albrighton)
      Rooney Jovetic(c) (Costa)

      0.0 ITB 2FT

      Im Thinking:
Bego > Krul + Save FT
What do yo think? Any Better Ideas?

Ok probably been discussed to death but my first two weeks has been fairly rubbish so pinning hopes on aguero starting - we all confident that's going to happen or do I stick the armband on Ramsey/Rooney

Stick it on Aguero. If you're gonna be a bear, you better be a grizzly!
