As always, Saturday morning serves up a trio of overlooked contenders for Fantasy managers to mull over as the deadline draws nearer. This week, we opt for a defender, a midfielder and a forward who all go in to weekend home encounters in fine form.

Daryl Janmaat

The Dutchman has hit the ground running at Newcastle with a series of encouraging displays which suggest he’s a natural replacement for Mathieu Debuchy in the right-back berth. Janmaat arrived with an attacking reputation after serving up two goals and five assists for Feyenoord last season, and whilst he’s failed to earn the returns, he has already signalled his intent with three attempts on goal over the opening two Gameweeks.

Available for 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Janmaat is pricier than his fellow Magpies defenders and has resultantly remained under the radar ahead of a very favourable run of matches. Having picked up a couple of bonus points from last week’s clean sheet at Villa, the Dutchman has home matches with Palace, Hull and Leicester, in addition to Stoke and Swansea in the next six Gameweeks to boost his climb up the defender rankings.

Nacer Chadli

Ahead of the new season, many assumed our Tottenham midfield affections would be limited to Christian Eriksen or Erik Lamela, with hopes high for the latter after the arrival of compatriot Mauricio Pochettino. In Spurs’ first home match of the season, though, the duo were overshadowed by Chadli in the 4-0 rout of QPR as the Belgian – in his first start under the new manager – bagged a brace and 15 FPL points against Harry Redknapp’s side.

In light of his devastating display, Chadli looks to have leapt to the top of the pecking order for the left flank role right now, with Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend likely to be resigned to bench-warming duties. After scoring just once last season, Chadli started the season with a lowly price tag of 6.0 but last weekend’s display underlines the potential value offered by the wide man compared to 8.0-priced Eriksen and Lamela. A home clash against Liverpool’s porous defence offers encouragement this Sunday, as do showdowns with Sunderland, West Brom and Southampton in the subsequent four Gameweeks.

Mauro Zarate

An unused sub for West Ham’s first match of the season, the Argentine was handed the chance to impress after Kevin Nolan sustained a shoulder injury last week. Fielded in “the hole” behind Carlton Cole, Zarate grabbed his chance with both hands by turning on the style and firing the opener in a 3-1 win at Palace.

Tasked with introducing a more attractive style of play at Upton Park this term, the early signs are encouraging for Sam Allardyce – the Hammers have registered more shots inside the box than any other side. With the 6.4-priced Zarate on board, there’s a chance they could start to deliver in the final third, and with Southampton, Hull, QPR and Burnley in the upcoming six, they have the fixtures to enable them to fulfil their attacking potential.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

        Krul
        Terry Caulker Chambers
        Ramsey Mata Fab Sterling
        Rooney Costa Bojan

        Wisdom Moore Marney

I think I can't my subs are pretty horrid. Is it silly to get Naismith this week?

Don´t be afraid to play him today, I think he will snatch some fantasy points this week, I predict a goal.

That being said he is my first sub on my bench.

With: Ramsey, Sanchez (c), Sterling, Fab, Sigi Jovetic and Rooney...there is no room for punts this week.

Hell you´ve held him this long you might as well hold and earn some differentials if at all possible.

Had Jovetic from the start and knew he was always a short term plan.

    Soon Aguero will become essential.

    As will Sturridge.

    This frontline will be key.

    Spot the diff
    Daryl Janmaat 3.0% ownership
    Nacer Chadli 3.5% ownership
    Mauro Zárate 1.4% ownership

Now these are all well and good but there is 1 glaring omission from the diff picks a player with a proven track record in this game

Can anyone remember Robin van Persie 2.8% ownership surely a diff and my armband choice ahead of Agüero who i also have he will punish his doubters that is for sure

United are a wounded animal and someone is going to get bitten i.e. Burnley and the flying Dutch man surly will reek havoc on the premiership fledglings

Am i mad or does 2.8% ownership truly reflect RVPs potential?

    1. andyinasia
      • 12 Years

It reflects his form, not his potential. Let's see him play one good game first.

Why wait and miss out in the fruits of the obvious points machine his record speaks for itself RVP delivers

How does it reflect his form he scored a hand full of goals in the world cup and before he got injured last session he banged in a hat trick in the CL

Anyway form is temporary class is permanent

Anyway form is temporary class is permanent

          *cough* Torres * cough*

There are cheaper strikers with better form. Unless you're a one-eyed RVP fanboy, you look elsewhere for value. IF he hits form, THEN you look at bringing him in.

You are comparing RVP to Torres? 😯
The thing with RVP is you know you can trust him with the armband long term he will deliver more often than not

Cheaper strikers are just that anyway 12.5 is a lot cheaper than 14.0 which he was at at the start of last session and with about 30% ownership

You are comparing RVP to Torres? 😯

Yes, because time was Torres was deemed the best striker in the EPL - 'class'- enough to pay 50m for. Class that turned out to be temporary, so your cliche doesn't hold.

Is he worth 12.5 though? More expensive than Costa, Sturridge or Aguero. I don't see him out scoring any of them.

    Fabianski
    PVA - Hutton - Amat
    Silva - Rambo - Rodwell - Fab
    Shrek - Jovetic - Sanchez

I have 0.8m ITB so can transfer Aguero in for either Rooney or Sanchez. I guess this would be City overkill though. Thoughts welcome!
