After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

    RMWCT:

    Bego
    Clyne - Ivan - Moreno
    ADM - Sterling - Siggy - Fab
    Costa - Naismith - Ade

    Bench: McCarthy, Boyd, Naylor, Moore

    3.2m in bank

Think my strikers are abit lightweight, but any candidates to bring in? Ade -> Aguero maybe?

      yep Ade ---> Kun

ivan is a better pick than cahill though imo...maybe just go with the man in your grav if you don't want to downgrade Moreno or ADM 😉

Red card waiting to happen. It's a 50-50 with him over a hat trick or red card. Haha....Think I might downgrade Moreno then 🙂

Ade>Balotelli. Do something about Boyd too, with CL coming up you need a better 1st sub.

Will probably rest Fab since I have Naismith (Palace), Tadic (at Swansea), and Siggy (vs Southampton) instead. Costa up top should be enough coverage.

So people who think Falcao won't start, are you trying to suggest that a 31 year old RVP will start his 3rd game in 9 days?

    1. Kostja
      12 years, 1 month ago

he wont play a full game 100%

    2. Kostja
      12 years, 1 month ago

but you have a point about RVP, I feel better as a Mata owner 😀

Rooney has been playing too many games and I'd expect him to make way for RVP if the latter doesn't start.

I have a feeling Mata will do well this week. He's the type of player who needs runners in the team, flanked by Shaw and Di Maria I wouldn't put it past him to nick few tap ins here and there. I'd keep him.

        1. Kostja
          12 years, 1 month ago

I dont remember the C ever being dropped and if you remember Rooney is the one who needs games to stay fit

              12 years, 1 month ago

I would expect mata to with Rooney dropping to nr 10, if United keep this formation than surely the best formation will be RVP Falcao up top with Roo at nr 10 and Mata on the bench

Jamie Jackson of the Guardian and Neil Custis of the Sun have both reported that Mata is key to LVG's plans and he won't be dropped. This will prob make you feel better.

99% par from direct quotes has been bs from the papers. Do you remember Costa being injured and rushed to the hospital in shock 🙂 Fact is Roo is captain it would be the first time in my time I see something like this, that a player has been made C and than dropped. I think even LVG does not know yet, I dont think Falcao move was planned, it was just an opportunity taken. We will see in 2-3 weeks how things shape up

You could look at it many ways. Im suggesting that a New signing that has just recovered from a serious injury and has had little game time would start from the bench in his first EPL game.

True but Falcao has said he's been ready since two months, and he was involved in Monaco's preseasons in which he scored v Arsenal. He returned to Manchester on Monday so will have had 6 days of training to prepare. Hoping he starts.

I'm tempted by that as well. Sterling and Costa could be subbed early if their teams are winning with CL in mind, and Rooney failed me last week so not captaining him. I'm also thinking about Lovren :O

I'd have JWP or Zaha in your case. Dyer is still a good choice though, its just a question of how comfortable you are with playing 2 swansea mids. in a 352 its fine i guess, but not in 343.

I don't think he'll get as much attacking freedom against a team that likes to control possession and has quick wingers in dyer and routledge. Knowing Mourinho he'll shackle the team again after conceding 3 last time too..

With Ivan, Clyne and Moreno in defense I'm trying not to spend more than 4.0 for my other 2 defenders, who should spend most time on the bench. This gives me more flexibility to potentially upgrade to Falcao/Aguero down the road.

Krul --> Bego seems like a good call.

Need a defender to replace phil jones.
    any suggestions?

thinking of either Lovren, Clyne or Pieters.
But not convinced about the clean sheet prospects of Pieters of Lovren, esp away from home.

    Thanks

Just make sure you have a Stoke defender. Clyne is a must too.

If u have Begovic then go with Clyne... if not get Stoke Defender...

Monero he plays on the wing and ran half field to score his goal. Its going to happen again. Lovren not bad but less attacking in my eyes.

      1. rickardinho
        12 years, 1 month ago

Lovren has more goal threat due to being the main man attacking gerrards set pieces. he'll score more goals than moreno this season imo

lovren has great chances of a CS in the next few weeks

What do we think the Arsenal - Citeh score will be? Was 3-6 not so long ago (at the Etihad)

    1. Aaron Ramessi - Straya
      12 years, 1 month ago

at the emirates the games have been very low scoring for the past 4-5 years...

im expecting a couple of goals, but not a goalfest

      1. rickardinho
        12 years, 1 month ago

If it is an open game I fancy City. Much more ruthless attackers and better midfield.

yeah exactly...this is why I captained kun

Yeah... Am working out whether I want to captain Aguero or Balotelli! Bookies have shorter odds on Balotelli, but am concerned about him not training the past couple of days. How sharp will he be?

Evening all. If I go from Aguero to Balotelli or Falcao I could change Ramsey to Hazard. What do you think? (on WC)

      not necessary .

          ikr! 😆

well wenger is tactically inept these days so I have a bad feeling about this one...not to mention the early kick-off jinx 🙁

Does the early kick-off only jinx the home side?

            1. Aaron Ramessi - Straya
              12 years, 1 month ago

all the early kick-off routs were away for us last season, but we have proven to struggle in big games so I cant help but fear a loss... 🙁

I reckon Wenger will be determined not to lose first and foremost. That's why I sold Ramsey. I reckon he'll be told not to get forward so much, if he starts. Could be a 0:0

Can see them switching to lone striker. Arsenal, Bayern and Chelsea in one week 😡
