Brendan Rodgers confirms that Daniel Sturridge is set for a short spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Aaron Ramsey has emerged as an injury concern for Arsenal’s clash with City at the Emirates. Romelu Lukaku is amongst a quartet of players to return to training for Everton. Alan Pardew has ruled Rolando Aarons out of weekend visit to St Mary’s. Roberto Soldado remains a doubt as Spurs visit the Stadium of Light and Leicester are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Matty James.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Aaron Ramsey “has a chance for Saturday” after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury on international duty with Wales. Elsewhere, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta and Mesut Ozil have all been passed fit and are set to be included in the squad, though the Arsenal boss has refused to confirm whether or not new signing Danny Welbeck will feature from the start.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is likely to be in contention to face West Brom at the weekend. Lukaku had been struggling with a toe problem, and subsequently missed Belgium’s friendly with Australia, but the club record signing has taken part in training today along with Steven Pienaar, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo. Samuel Eto’o and Leon Osman both face late fitness tests after sustaining knocks in the past week.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to be out for “up to three weeks” with a thigh injury, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed. Meanwhile, summer signing Emre Can could be sidelined for up to six weeks after the midfielder suffered an ankle injury while playing for Germany Under-21s. Joe Allen will also be assessed ahead of the Villa game after hurting his knee while turning out for Wales earlier this week, though Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan are all out.

Newcastle have suffered another injury blow, with Alan Pardew confirming that Rolando Aarons will miss the weekend visit to St Mary’s after sustaining a hamstring injury. In more positive news, Pardew revealed that midfielder Cheick Tiote will be in the squad for Saturday providing he returns from international duties unscathed, while Jack Colback has also declared himself fit for the trip to Southampton. New signing Facundo Ferreyra has been ruled out with a back injury.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Roberto Soldado is a doubt for the Sunderland clash with a neck injury, while Kyle Walker remains sidelined.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed new boy Sadio Mane is uncertain to feature at home to Newcastle. The Senegal star has to travel to Ghana to receive a work permit and, even if he’s available, is set for a bench role at best.

Leicester’s Matty James has returned to training after missing the start of the season with a shin injury. Nigel Pearson, though, has hinted that the Stoke clash is likely to come too soon for the central midfielder.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

I'm going Costa with Rooney VC I think. May change that out of fear for a Costa cameo (but I wouldn't expect that as I don't think Chelsea will struggle).

        Moreno PVA Naylor Moore Shawcross/Baines

Don't see the McCarthy thing, myself - TriggerLips has him, though.
I would not have Moreno or Moore. I prefer Coleman, now - but not until game week 8 - I have Ivanovic until then ...
          Your midfield is shit.
Pelle is not as hot a prospect as Naismith for the next two, imo.

I don't really buy this coverage thing - if I was wildcarding now I wouldn't have any City coverage. Aguero is a constant worry, and in the same bracket you've got Costa, Falcao et al. Simialr with Silva - Sterling, Sanchez, Ramsey, Fabregas all better options for me.

It's nice to cover all bases, but if the strong options aren't there then no need to force them.

Use the Jones injury as a good excuse to get rid of Man U defense. 4 points on a defender is not normally advised but if hes not playing get a Lpool one in and keep for good fixtures

im actually considering rafael myself. i think united will come right quite quickly. young and valencia seemed to give away possession every time the ball reached the final third and fletcher left the defense isolated in possession/didnt provide that crucial link between defence and attack (from the game i watched anyway). with better outside defenders and midfield anchor i think they'll be fine. that's not to mention the additional quality of rojo too

Betfair have united odds on to keep a clean sheet

So the doom and gloom everyone has on here concerning the united defence is not shared by those backing them into odds on, they are the likeliest team to keep one this week along with liverpool and slighly ahead of stoke chelsea and palace

The odds don't necessarily reflect reality. they show what people are most likely to bet on. There are loads of ManU fans who would bet on the, getting a clean sheet, so the odds get adjusted so that the bookie can make as much money as possible if they don't.

Bookies will keep adjusting the odds in what they consider their favour until people stop taking the bet on.

That's where the money is. That doesn't mean those are indicative of the actual chance of it happening.

Liverpool's and Man Utd's odds are always low as there are millions of fans around the world.

    Repost:
If I make the rest of the team the way I want (4-5 weeks from now) , I'll have 10.8 to spend on two defenders. should I do:

    A. Baines, 3.9. Means I start Baines, Clyne and either Duff or Hutton.

    B. Janmaat, 5.5 (probably Lovren or Fonte). Means I start those two and Clyne.

Replace Jovetic with Abel Hernandez? Or bench Jove instead?

Can someone explain the Mccarthy situation? There seems to be a train of thought that he could become no.1 for QPR? Why and how?

      Why: because Green is shite

How: when Green inevitably drops another clanger that costs them points

Has Mccarthy recently moved to QPR or people just think he'll get a chance as a long term understudy?

Because many people a have a silly, not to say irrational, prejudice against Green.

Secondly, they have not looked at McCarthy's career so far - or if they have, seem to think that it is normal for a goal keeper. It isn't.

Not getting Welbeck this GW, so

    A. Jovetic -> Naismith/Pelle
    B. Jovetic & Hazard -> Kun & Heno (-4)
    C. roll the FT

    thoughts appreciated.

Naismith. Looks good for 2 gameweeks, leaves you a lot of money in the bank.
