Brendan Rodgers confirms that Daniel Sturridge is set for a short spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Aaron Ramsey has emerged as an injury concern for Arsenal’s clash with City at the Emirates. Romelu Lukaku is amongst a quartet of players to return to training for Everton. Alan Pardew has ruled Rolando Aarons out of weekend visit to St Mary’s. Roberto Soldado remains a doubt as Spurs visit the Stadium of Light and Leicester are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Matty James.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Aaron Ramsey “has a chance for Saturday” after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury on international duty with Wales. Elsewhere, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta and Mesut Ozil have all been passed fit and are set to be included in the squad, though the Arsenal boss has refused to confirm whether or not new signing Danny Welbeck will feature from the start.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is likely to be in contention to face West Brom at the weekend. Lukaku had been struggling with a toe problem, and subsequently missed Belgium’s friendly with Australia, but the club record signing has taken part in training today along with Steven Pienaar, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo. Samuel Eto’o and Leon Osman both face late fitness tests after sustaining knocks in the past week.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to be out for “up to three weeks” with a thigh injury, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed. Meanwhile, summer signing Emre Can could be sidelined for up to six weeks after the midfielder suffered an ankle injury while playing for Germany Under-21s. Joe Allen will also be assessed ahead of the Villa game after hurting his knee while turning out for Wales earlier this week, though Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan are all out.

Newcastle have suffered another injury blow, with Alan Pardew confirming that Rolando Aarons will miss the weekend visit to St Mary’s after sustaining a hamstring injury. In more positive news, Pardew revealed that midfielder Cheick Tiote will be in the squad for Saturday providing he returns from international duties unscathed, while Jack Colback has also declared himself fit for the trip to Southampton. New signing Facundo Ferreyra has been ruled out with a back injury.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Roberto Soldado is a doubt for the Sunderland clash with a neck injury, while Kyle Walker remains sidelined.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed new boy Sadio Mane is uncertain to feature at home to Newcastle. The Senegal star has to travel to Ghana to receive a work permit and, even if he’s available, is set for a bench role at best.

Leicester’s Matty James has returned to training after missing the start of the season with a shin injury. Nigel Pearson, though, has hinted that the Stoke clash is likely to come too soon for the central midfielder.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

What's the thinking behind people (c) Rooney.... that Falcao won't start, so Rooney will partner RVP?

Captaining Rooney would be a mistake IMO. He's dreadful whenever he plays with Rvp and there's so much uncertainty with the lineup. He might even be subbed on the hour for Falcao

First time posting on this... what do people think?

    De Gea
    Lovren -Cahill - Debuchy
    Sterling - Silva - Ward-Prowse - Fábregas
    Bojan - Rooney- Diego Costa(C)

    Wisdom

benching Sig is a bit of a gamble but my preferred option i think (maybe ward-prowse instead)... i'm giving Bojan one last throw of the dice at home to Lei ...?

Bojan is a risk he hasn't been great to be honest don't think he likes the physicality of EPL, Wisdom and Bruce are possible risks too as they probably won't play as much but since they're your subs I wouldn't worry yet. Seems a strong enough team besides that.

I've done that before myself giving players chances and it bites you in the *ss more times than helps you but you never know. I think it will be tight LEI are actually not bad and they're defenders are V Physical. Didn't Bojan get dropped last game?

This does show the importance of fixtures though. Having a stoke/ southampton player means you've got more chance this week of clean sheets than city, arsenal etc. That's 1-2 million saved for elsewhere

That's why I like to have 4 reasonably good defenders.
Some players like Ivanovic, Baines even Caulker and Janmaat justify their prices through attacking returns as well though.

Zaha is worth having if you have another player you could rotate with. Probably too expensive if he'll only sit on the bench every week.

Also I'm not sure about the nailed on status of Boyd. Probably too soon to call.

Your advice for my WC team would be GREATLY appreciated!:

    Bego | Heaton
    Bertrand | PVA | Naylor | Hutton | Moore
    Sterling | ADM | Siggy | Lamela | Boyd
    Falcao | Costa | Balotelli

    £0 in bank

    - Heaton covers a couple of Bego's harder games (and gives me a playing keeper if Bego is out)
    - Defence is cheap but offers good rotation and possible attacking returns
    - I want Welbz instead of Balo - but fixtures are swaying me

Morning Drog, thanks for another piece of advice 🙂

I'm tempted (cos of the Arsenal cover) but having at least 2 pool attacking players looks like it could pay off - I just can't fit another one in unless it's Balo 🙁

im in the same boat, i need to ship sturridge and as a liverpool fan id love to put balo in there and be confident he'd tear it up against villa and wham.....but...it is balotelli. we've seen it all before, he could just as easily turn up, piss around for the first half and be replaced after getting booked.

'tis true... Am now considering dropping ADM for Gerrard (and Balo for Welbz). Utd look great on paper, so having him and Falcao could be great, but surely Stevie G will match ADM's output...?

            What do you reckon?

gerrard and welbeck are proven i suppose, the safe option. a lot depends on where dimaria plays. Not sure if Falcao will start either talk seems to be that he will be on the bench.
thats a tough one to decide though. Depends on how brave you are i suppose. Risk vs reward. Id probably keep ADM though.

Cheers Drog. Yeah, having Gerrard is the safe pick - and seems a bit boring. ADM is class and the more exciting pick - but unproven in PL. Falcao might not play a whole game TW, but he might and I want him long-term, so he stays. I dislike having Balo in my team so maybe Welbeck will get the nod. Cheers for your thoughts mate, appreciated.

Wise I think... Leopards, spots etc. I like the idea of welbeck though. but not putting him in against city though

    Zaha vs Newcastle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xb3syRxwVw

Looked a bit wasteful tbh. 2 of his 4 shots were in the same move where he put his rebound horribly wide.

    So apparently Jones is injured.

I need money to do Eriksen -> Sterling so I need to downgrade Jones to a max 4.7 defender.

    Got my eyes on Taylor.

    Good move?

    My defense atm:

    Krul, Foster
    Terry, Jones, PvA, Moore, Chester

    2 ft: Eriksen -> Sterling & Jones -> Taylor

    Yay or nay?

    b) Ramsey + Jovetic > Di Maria + Welbeck (-4)

    c) Chambers + Ramsey + Jovetic > Clyne + Di Maria + Welbeck (-8)

Price changes really are different this year. Moreno brings in a 13pt score and has great fixtures coming and doesn't even rise 0.1 over an Intl break.

I know, and he's had plenty. A scenario like this would have led to at least a 0.2 price rise last season.

He's on over 100,000 NTI so i'd expect him to rise tonight, that's the point that Welbeck did.
I'm sure people have analysed it more than me though.

Is Aguero a must have if on a WC? Thinking of waiting for the next two weeks, and then going Rooney to Kun before GW6.

I have Jones, Rambo, Jovetic, Costa and Hazard that are all out/doubts.

2 FT transfers and 0,4m in bank.

Who would you ship out and who would be the best replecements for them?
