Brendan Rodgers confirms that Daniel Sturridge is set for a short spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Aaron Ramsey has emerged as an injury concern for Arsenal’s clash with City at the Emirates. Romelu Lukaku is amongst a quartet of players to return to training for Everton. Alan Pardew has ruled Rolando Aarons out of weekend visit to St Mary’s. Roberto Soldado remains a doubt as Spurs visit the Stadium of Light and Leicester are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Matty James.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Aaron Ramsey “has a chance for Saturday” after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury on international duty with Wales. Elsewhere, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta and Mesut Ozil have all been passed fit and are set to be included in the squad, though the Arsenal boss has refused to confirm whether or not new signing Danny Welbeck will feature from the start.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is likely to be in contention to face West Brom at the weekend. Lukaku had been struggling with a toe problem, and subsequently missed Belgium’s friendly with Australia, but the club record signing has taken part in training today along with Steven Pienaar, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo. Samuel Eto’o and Leon Osman both face late fitness tests after sustaining knocks in the past week.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to be out for “up to three weeks” with a thigh injury, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed. Meanwhile, summer signing Emre Can could be sidelined for up to six weeks after the midfielder suffered an ankle injury while playing for Germany Under-21s. Joe Allen will also be assessed ahead of the Villa game after hurting his knee while turning out for Wales earlier this week, though Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan are all out.

Newcastle have suffered another injury blow, with Alan Pardew confirming that Rolando Aarons will miss the weekend visit to St Mary’s after sustaining a hamstring injury. In more positive news, Pardew revealed that midfielder Cheick Tiote will be in the squad for Saturday providing he returns from international duties unscathed, while Jack Colback has also declared himself fit for the trip to Southampton. New signing Facundo Ferreyra has been ruled out with a back injury.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Roberto Soldado is a doubt for the Sunderland clash with a neck injury, while Kyle Walker remains sidelined.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed new boy Sadio Mane is uncertain to feature at home to Newcastle. The Senegal star has to travel to Ghana to receive a work permit and, even if he’s available, is set for a bench role at best.

Leicester’s Matty James has returned to training after missing the start of the season with a shin injury. Nigel Pearson, though, has hinted that the Stoke clash is likely to come too soon for the central midfielder.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

I thought Welbeck might be a good pick this week as the lifelong Utd boy up against City.

Checked the stats and it turns out they're his worst opposition - played against the eight times in the PL, and never scored.

Well, I'll want Falcao for him I think eventually.

But for now, I reckon Rooney as he is guaranteed minutes this as captain whereas Falcao might be eased in.

yeah Falcao will be better long term..just making my point on Rooney.

The Kun/Costa/Rooney WC frontline is looking tasty. Drop Rooney later when Welbeck/Falcao or someone emerges

Oh, actually I'd be tempted to downgrade Kelly to a 4.0(Moore) and then upgrade Naylor to Janmaat.

Swansea have looked a little shaky at the back despite the 2 clean sheets so far.

Siggy seems more of obvious being a star, but just after the most points.

Should I pull the trigger on Terry, Jovetic -> Moreno, Balotelli now?

Having Ramsey is my only concern. As Balo and Moreno probably won't rise, and Terry and Jovetic probably won't fall, I could wait until when lineups are announced tomorrow?

Moreno will prob rise... transfers been pouring in all week and today is the day where more transfers accumulate. why swap terry out though? just jovetic to Welbz or someone for free?

Just because I think Balo is a good shout until Sturridge returns. Planned to go Rooney to Welbeck if he does well next week anyway.

    RMT 🙂

    DDG - Gilks
    Debuchy - Cahill - Chester - Clyne - Dummet
    Siggy - Ramsey - Eriksen - Sterling - Marney
    Costa - Rooney - Fletcher
    (2.4 ITB) 0FT

Im thinking of playing Fletcher this GW and get Welbeck/Pelle for him next GW. I'm also slightly worried about Ramsey. Should I do a transfer this GW and take a hit? If so what should the Transfer be? Thanks 🙂

    Begovic (Myhill)
Van Aaanholt - Moreno - Bertrand (Schlupp, Coloccini)

    Pelle - Costa - Balotelli

Not decided on C yet, but all 3 strikers are tempting!

    Team News (extra notes):

Arsenal - Cazorla in the hole, Ozil left (do not understand Wenger, but its this way)
Villa - 4-3-3, Weiman left, N'Zogbia right and Richson in the middle
Hull - Dawson or Chester in the middle of back three, surely not Davies.
M.City - 1 striker + Navas, especially if J-Tic it´s out. Expect the same in midweek visit to Bayern
M.United - good punt on the new tactic (well done Demi)
Newcastle - Sissoko in the hole, Cabella wide right
Stoke - Walters in the hole, Diouf on the right

    Thanks Demi once more.

        Not sure.
Di Maria its a winger or an interior mid with strikers ahead (like in Argentina).

        @BUR was:
        --------------------Fletcher------------------
Valencia - Mata - Di Maria - Young
        ---------RVP---------------Rooney--------

It may goes has Demi suggests.

Pelle has an history of going slightly more defensing away in big matches.
If J-Tic its injured he only has 2 strikers available. Would he risk starting with both and not having on to revert a possible set-back? Doubt it.

        Navas - Yaya - Fernadinho - Nasri
        -----------------Silva------------------------
        ----------------Aguero----------------------

        Would be my take

    Current team:

    Krul Mannone

    Jones Debuchy Duff Moore Wisdom

    Mata Rambo Marney Hazard Siggy

    Costa Rooney Jovetic

2 FT and 0,4m in bank.

Jovetic and Jones are the obvious transfers out but I reaaaally want Sterling in.

What about this? Jones, Jovetic, Marney TO 4,4m def, Naismith and Sterling for -4pt hit?

Would also leave me with better bench (Siggy) if one of Costa, Hazard and Rambo won't play.

Clearly in the minority, but think he'll be in for a good haul this week... debating taking a -4 for Hazard and Rooney to Fabregas and Falcao, but its madness isnt it - should wait a week?

Yes, to expect Falcao to score multiple goals in his first appearance having barely trained and only just having received a visa is extremely optimistic

Doubt he will start. Has barely played since coming back from surgery.

      I also think he'll start. If I didn't, I wouldn't ditch Mata this GW.

I'm not sure he'll bang in a lot of goals in first GW though, I think your transfer plan is risky and highly speculative at best...

          ah the voice of reason.

thank you 🙂 i should definitely wait a week, see what happens and possibly do it for free next week.

unless hazard is actually injured (unlikely) - then i'd be even more tempted 😛

I can only think that Costa price rise must be down to positive NTI with a yellow flag
If that isn't the case then they have simply become arbitrary

      Why would he not rise?
      His NTI is 330,000.

    Need some help please!

Team is: (0.3m in bank, 0ft)

    Krul Begovic
    Lovren Debuchy Yoshida Wisdom Moore
    Siggy Sterling Ramsey Fabregas Marney
    Jovetic Costa Rooney

    Need to get rid of:
    a) Yoshida (Alderweireld will take his place)
    b) Debuchy (I don't like - bad fixtures)
    c) Jovetic (Not convinced by him)

Any ideas chaps? Think the most pressing thing is to sell Yoshida

Was thinking Jovetic to Welbeck but for -4pt it's a bit reckless

Hey boys! I'm considering dropping Bony to upgrade my midfield. Who is the best striker to go for? I' thinking Diouf from Stoke? Or are there any better options for 9.0 or less

Welbeck? Though it may be a bit early for that! Pellè maybe?

I've got Tadic in midfield. Would it be a risk having Southamptons 2 main players?

I'd say so; I don't they'll score enough goals to warrant such a risk. Perhaps stick with Tadic, and put in Welbeck as seems to be a good option for below that price.
Dzeko if you're really punty 😉

    How about this?

    Krul, Mannone

Ivanovic, Vertonghen, Moreno, Hutton, Dawson (Hull)

Sterling, Ramsey, Di Maria, Sigurdsson, Ward-Prowse

    Welbeck, Costa, Naismith

I know there are quite a few alternatives, but if you can see anything that can be improved please say 🙂

Okay so here is my current team, but im really tempted to WC, any help would be very much appreciated 🙂

    Krul (Myhill)
    Vlaar, Ivan, Debuchy, Ward, Bruce
    Ramsey, Young, Fab, Siggy, Sterling
    Rooney, Costa, Fletcher

In the backline vlaar really needs to go so i was looking to get clyne in and possibly swap debuchy to moreno.
Obviously need to get young out sharpish.
In the forwards, wanted to bring in balotelli and naismith/welbeck.

Anyone think I should Wildcard now, or just wait it out and change a couple of people at a time.?

    Begovic ( Krul )

    Jones Coloccini Chester // ( O'Shea / Wisdom )

Mata Henderson Sigurdsson Ramsey Fábregas // whom should i bench from mid..?

    Rooney Costa Naismith..

1 transfer with 1.9m left in the bank..

should i do jones >> Clyne

or play O'shea & keep FT for next week..?

Anybody have any persuasive evidence either for or against the Liverpool and Man Utd defences? I'm happy to take on board anecdotal/qualitative views as well as hard stats into account here 🙂

(Trying to shore up my UFPL team and there are scheduling pros/cons to both so it probably comes down to good old fashioned clean sheet potential)
