As always, there are plenty of situations for us to monitor for the upcoming Gameweek. This week’s Scout Mission has an eye on the form of Arsenal’s new frontman, Tottenham’s midfield, Louis van Gaal’s frontline options and the battle of the mid-price prospects as Swansea and Southampton go head-to-head at the Liberty.

Welbeck vs the Villa defence…
As strange as it may seem, Fantasy managers will be eyeing up both the Arsenal striker and Villa’s defensive assets ahead of the encounter at Villa Park. Should we see a second consecutive blank for Welbeck, those Fantasy managers who swooped early for the Gunners’ deadline day signing may begin to question his acquisition – all the more so if fellow mid-price forward Graziano Pelle can deliver once again at the weekend. Meanwhile, should Paul Lambert’s side manage another unlikely shut-out against a big side, investment in Alan Hutton will surely be on the up – the full back has already risen to a price of 4.1 this season but still looks excellent value for a guaranteed starter in a rearguard with just a single goal conceded thus far.

Burnley’s opportunity to convince…
Sean Dyche’s men have, up until this point, suggested that they can live at this level, but Saturday’s meeting with Sunderland is the first time they will have faced opponents at Turf Moor that give them the opportunity for three points. Clean sheets in their previous two matches have ensured that The Clarets’ budget defensive options are receiving plenty of interest right now, and this weekend’s encounter could see Michael Duff continue his rise to prominence, as well as offer Kieran Tripper the opportunity to show his potential. However, the Black Cats fixture may also be the first time Burnley’s attacking targets creep on to our radars – Scott Arfield will be hoping to add to his opening weekend goal against Chelsea, whilst the 4.9 priced Lukas Jutkiewicz will need to step up in the absence of fellow forward Danny Ings.

The mid-price showdown at the Liberty…
Two attractive and flourishing teams collide in South Wales, as Garry Monk’s Swansea host Ronald Koeman’s on-song Southampton. A host of mid-price talent is set to be on show, then, with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dusan Tadic expected to pull the strings in midfield, whilst Graziano Pelle’s growing band of owners will be optimistic that the Italian striker can add to his tally of three goals in his past two appearances. Early form would indicate that the Swans are favourites in Saturday afternoon’s clash, but with seven goals scored and only one conceded in their past two fixtures, Southampton are rapidly emerging as the team to back. The Saints also boast an obliging run of opponents to come after this weekend (QPR, tot, SUN, STO, hul, LEI), and another impressive showing against the Swans would see their assets begin to scale the summit of our Watchlist for Gameweek 6.

Downing vs Sterling…
No really. It may seem a mismatch, but West Ham have played their best football through Stewart Downing so far this campaign. The 5.5-priced midfielder has already accrued 22 points, and is currently rivaling some of the more fancied Fantasy talent in terms of goal threat and creativity thus far. One such player would of course be Raheem Sterling, whose ownership outweighs Downing’s by a whopping 44%, and the youngster looks poised for a return to the starting XI for Saturday evening’s encounter after finding himself on the bench in Liverpool’s loss the Villa last time out. We’ll certainly be watching carefully to see how these two match up, and whether Downing can continue to thrive as a differential in the Hammers’ more enterprising lineup.

More answers from United…
The QPR victory was a showcase but, such was the fragility of the opponent, we didn’t really see Louis Van Gaal’s new United side stretched. The visit to Leicester certainly will, however, with the Foxes having already chalked up two wins and a draw despite their tough opening schedule. Fantasy managers will be offered the chance to further assess Juan Mata’s role in midfield and how Radamel Falcao will be squeezed into the lineup, whilst another impactful display from Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria will ensure their popularity continues to mount. Meanwhile, in defence, questions marks still remain over whether Van Gaal will be able to switch to three at the back again – Luke Shaw had a 45-minute run out for United’s Under-21 side on Monday night, and could conceivably be handed the left wing back role on Sunday afternoon, allowing Marcus Rojo, Jonny Evans and Tyler Blackett to fill the central berths should their manager switch formation.

Chadli’s challenge to see off Eriksen and Lamela…
Nacer Chadli is offering outstanding value for his 6.1 price tag right now and, having scored three times and fired more close-range attempts than any midfielder, the upturn in interest is understandable. Christian Eriksen’s role as the middle man in the attacking midfield three looks promising, though – after grabbing his first goal of the campaign in Gameweek 4, the Dane’s form is starting to pick up and with a chance created every 37.1 minutes this season, his underlying creative stats suggest that more attacking returns are on the horizon. With Spurs facing a West Brom side that have conceded five in their last two fixtures, all three midfielders will be optimistic of having a say this weekend, though us Fantasy managers will be keen to see one emerge as the elite option in the next few Gameweeks.

A test of Warnock’s philosophy…
The Crystal Palace boss has many pacey weapons at his disposal for Sunday’s trip to Goodison, though it remains to be seen whether he will he go on the attack or show caution and pack the midfield. If it is indeed the former, goals could be on the cards, and Wilfried Zaha, Jason Puncheon and Yannick Bolasie could prove explosive options for managers hunting for midfielders in the mid-to-lower price bracket.

Pellegrini’s shift to 4-5-1…
We saw it at Arsenal and in Munich last night, but will the Chilean stick with his new formation when City welcome Chelsea in Sunday afternoon’s table-topping showdown? With three goals to his name already this season, and having only appeared as a second half substitute in last night’s match, Sergio Aguero seems certain to start at the weekend, meaning that Edin Dzeko would be resigned to the bench yet again if Pellegrini rolls out a lone striker system. However, with Chelsea struggling defensively right now, the City boss could feasibly look to take on the Blues’ rearguard by lining up with two forwards, which would suggest that the 4-5-1 formation is only for certain opponents. If not, however, it’s clear that the 12.1 valued Aguero will stand out as the only feasible source of attacking points in their frontline whilst fit.

If i.e. Everton should win the Europa League and a place in next seasons CL, would that be as a fifth team from PL qualifying, or at the expense of one of the top four, does anybody know?

I dont know, but if so, we could in theory end up with a scenario of Pool winning the CL and Spurs winning the EL, with a PL finnish outside the top 4, pipping united and arseal out of CL at 3rd and 4th place..

I had no idea...I really liked the look of Rojo's set piece threat at the WC and just checked his stats for last season...5 goals in 27 games is damned good going for a defender, or be it in a worse league. Worth knowing though.

I have 2 Newcastle defenders on my team and I really want to get rid one of them... I kinda like Janmaat, because goal threat... Select please:

    A. Krul OUT, Manone IN, Van Aanholt OUT Chambers IN, Janmaat stays
    B. Krul stay, Van Aanholt stay, Janmaat OUT Chambers IN

    C. some other option? Maybe other GK or other defender?

I`d like to make one change with one FT this week. What can I do?

Hey folks! Hope you're all well 🙂 Okay, down to business... Had 2FT's and just done Albrighton > Boyd as I had no major issues to address seeing as I WC'd in GW3. Team is:

    Krul
Clyne // Hutton // van Aanholt
    Cesc // Ramsey // Sig // Sterling
    Kun // Costa // Rooney

    Elliot // Boyd // Dummett // Wisdom

    Bank = 0.2
    FT = 1

Planing to do Dummett > Moore next week if no injuries prevail.

    Thoughts?

    How's this WC team looking?

    Forster, McCarthy

    Ivanovic, Chambers, PVA, Duff, Moore

    Ramsey, Sterling, Tadic, Siggy, Boyd

    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

I could do Ivan & Pelle to Wisdom & Rooney BUT Pelle has unbelievable fixtures, there's every chance in the world he could equal or even surpass Rooney's score over the next 7 GWs. Also, Ivan's attacking stats have been astronomical so far - much better than most of the mids in the game!

Unfortunately not. Nothing in the bank. I'm a United fan and it kills not to have any of our players, but I think Ramsey could perform just as well as last season, or potentially do even better. Also, I'm waiting on Walcott as I think when he returns he could be worth his price in gold.

Fair enough mate. With the signings you guys have made it's only a matter of time until a United attacker is essential, more so than Arsenal IMO. But I totally agree with you regarding Walcott... Ram > Theo when fit

Koeman has said: Mané may be part of the squad to play Arsenal in the League Cup. He will NOT be ready for Saturday as he is due to arrive in the country tomorrow. Koeman has no idea of Mané's physical condition, in terms of training that has taken place since we signed him so he may take some time to get up to speed.

Correction. Cardozo has played one game. None in the league though.

Cardozo scored against Rostov in the qualifiers, might be injured though. Would pick Ba but he might be injured as well. I'm aware Deulofeu isn't first choice, but I would expect him to start the majority of games anyway - this is EL after all

If he is, then he is probably one of the best picks for this round.

EL should be Everton's priority. Winners get a CL place and they've no chance of top 4.

yeah, but lately they have not been as good as last year.

I would probably keep only one attacker and get the midfielder Kampfl, that opens you a variation in attach, such as Bacca or Ba.

I think Ba is a great pick this week, however it is still not clear whether he is fully fit or not .

Endless debate still about the United line up..in particular Mata and RVP..
For me nothing has changed. With such a big squad we still don't actually know if LVG will be like a kid in a sweet shop with endless tinkering or not. We've all assumed he will have a starting Xl in his minds eye and that with no CL it will be more or less fixed...He might just surprise us on a weekly basis, we'll see.

Aye he looks good and if he follows "our" logic he'll pick him every week, but, for all we know he might be eyeing up Januzaj and a different formation...or god forbid Fellaini...LVG strikes me as a manager who likes to bathe in the tactical genius reputation.does that include strange and wonderful line ups on a regular basis ?..all I'm saying is we don't actually know..

As I have no TOT attackers since binning Eriksson (too early) and in light that I am devoid of any stand out captain choice surely it's time to lay to rest the ghost of NCNB Baines ©

Baines is a good pick. Pens make him fixture proof because even if Everton concede he can always score you decent points.

        Yes.

But Leicester won't bend over and hand the bottle of lube to Man Utd like my team did last week. Utd will score a few but Leicester will probably score too. That Utd defence still looks dodgy. We were just too inept and in awe of their galacticos last week to actually take advantage of that.

I think the foxes will give it a good go.

According to Koeman, Wanyama's omission from the starting line-up in the last two outings has been down to tactical decisions. He calls Wanyama a 'control midfielder' which he may play next to Schneiderlin or let Schneiderlin adopt this role to allow others to go forward. Cork is someone he sees as more offensively strong than Wanyama.

So for Wanyama owners - you'd expect Wanyama to play the tighter games, and Cork/JWP/Davis to play the ones which we are aiming for wins, particularly during home games.

Currently sitting on this for the GW

      De Gea

      Terry Taylor Coloccini

      Sterling Ramsey Fabregas Henderson

      Welbeck Rooney Costa

      Gilks Marney Chester Wisdom

I've got £1.1m in the bank and thinking of doing Chester to Bertrand with my one FT given Chester was dropped at the weekend. Good call? Then I have to decide whether to play Bertrand or Terry.

        • 15 Years

I would use the FT as don't think Chester will play and Newcastle won't keep a CS so one of those to Bertrand or rafael (if you fancy a punt) looks good.

Cheers for the response. I think you're right and I think it has to be Chester because Newcastle do have a plum home fixture (albeit I agree unlikely to keep a CS) and Coloccini is nailed whereas Chester has been dropped.

Rafael is a good shout - already have DDG though and not sure United's defence merits a double up quite yet. The only other option is Chambers but that's a bit too punty for me and Arsenal's defence is looking quite ropey.

I'd be suprised if Bruce didn't revert back to 352 for Newcastle game so Chester is likely to be recalled.

That's really helpful thanks - what is it likely to be long-term do you think? If Chester is rotated or his place is insecure (particular if it's insecure for home games against poor teams like West Ham) then I think he should probably go anyway?
