Our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. The three-part approach, which takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections, will hopefully help to steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Judging by the voting in this week’s Captain Poll, there’s no real standout candidate as we head towards Gameweek 5. United’s Wayne Rooney just edges it at the summit – ahead of a trip to Leicester, he receives just over 21% of votes cast after grabbing a goal and assist in last week’s comprehensive home win over QPR.

Team-mate Angel di Maria picked up similar returns against the R’s and has persuaded 17% to hand him the captaincy – only just less than Chelsea’s prolific Diego Costa. Despite firing seven goals in four appearances, most Fantasy managers reckon the summer signing faces a tough task to continue his scoring streak as the Blues roll up to the Etihad, with many fearing Jose may park the bus again.

Further down, Emmanuel Adebayor, with a mere 7% FPL ownership, offers a strong differential alternative. Rested from Tottenham’s midweek Europa League match, he takes on an out-of-sorts West Brom backline that that conceded two or more goals in three out of four matches under new manager, Alan Irvine. Radamel Falcao also find a place in the top five for United’s visit to the King Power Stadium, despite finding himself on the bench last weekend.

Elsewhere, a trio of highly-owned midfielders are also in consideration. Gylfi Sigurdsson has delivered 16 points in his two appearances at the Liberty ahead of the visit of Southampton, whilst Aaron Ramsey – similar to the Swans playmaker – has scored or assisted in three of his four appearances as Arsenal make their way to Villa. After being rested from the starting XI last weekend, Raheem Sterling is a sure starter for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham – two goals in three appearances in the Reds’ starting line-up bodes well against a backline yet to keep out their opponents.

Danny Welbeck is the highest Arsenal player in this week’s Poll as the Gunners attempt to break down the league’s most resilient defence. Yet to open his account for Arsene Wenger’s side, the deadline-day signing is backed by over 4% of your votes – more than Sergio Aguero ahead of City’s clash with Chelsea, despite the Argentine scoring in three of his four league appearances.

If Arsenal can put 2 by Man C then Costa (C) is not much of a risk

City @ home are a much different animal vs. City on the road.

Not saying Costa *can't* score but, his chances for 2+ goals are far lower than several others this week.

My other options are Eriksen, Siggy and Naismith. If fancy Siggy to top score this GW but haven't the stomach for the risk. Can't trust the Viking (he's only 8.5% too) and Naismith doesn't seem to score more than one

By that argument, Bayern could only score 1 against Citeh. And since Chelsea could only score one on Schalke they're a lock for -5

Plenty of pundit's concluded Chelsea without Costa are a bit limp.

    Ivanovic & Naismith

    or

    Wilson & Adebayor

The latter gives me more flexibility as I can easily get in another mid-priced option like Pelle or Welbeck without a hit. Kind of scared not owning Iva though, basically plays as a striker in our home ties...

    TADIC vs FABREGAS

    - both are the key to their teams' attacks
    - Tadic has the easier fixture
    - Both play attacking style home and away this season, but Mourinho has a history of closing things up in big games.
    - City kept things tight at the back against Liverpool and Bayern, and also played counterattacking against Arsenal most recently.
    - Dzeko and Jovetic are injury concerns, potentially forcing Pellegrini to play more defensive.
    - Both have impressive attacking stats, though Fab has had better output so far.

    Who is your pick?

    Such a quandary

    Kruk
    Clyne - Duff - PVA
    Lamela - Siggurdson - Fabregas - Ramsey - Steling
    Aguero - Costa

    McCarthy - Naismith - Chester - Hutton

Feels like everyone has OK fixtures without being great. Maybe should be playing Naismith and probably should have some Man U in there. 1FT 0.6 in da bank. What a conundrum.

Meaning he looks threatening, and will perform eventually based on stats

Not in the least based on current form just based on net transfers out.

I don't know the first thing about this newfangled algorithm they are using but he has had loads of transfers out....seems that it should have accumulated to a .1 drop by now. Unless actually was he flagged because he missed international duty which reset his transfers? That would be cheeky....

Just did Dzeko, Cahill and Debuchy to Pelle, Baines and Rafael for a hit.

Decent moves or early morning madness?

That team must've raked the points in last week 😛 Too tough a decision; I'm stuck too, as you can see below! Tempted to say Rooney cos of the fixture since Costa/Kun will probably end up in a low-scoring scrappy match

Hey guys, been ridiculously busy all week and haven't had a chance to sort out my poor squad. With 2 free transfers and 1.4m in the bank, what do you guys recommend?

    Krul - Gilks

Caulker - Duff - Terry - van Aanholt - Chester

    Siggy - Eriksen - Sterling - Hazard - Ramsey

    Rooney - Dzeko - Naismith

All replies would be hugely appreciated 🙂

          For this week yeah.

Dzeko needs to be dealt with, is not nailed on to start and is doubtful anyway. I transferred him out for Pellé. Would save the 2nd FT to do Caulker -> Soton defender next week, at least that is what I am planning to do.
