From now on, weโ€™re shifting our Captain Sensible article to a Thursday evening slot, giving you more time to assess the data on offer. Once again, we roll out a three-part approach, which takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections toย help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

For the second section, weโ€™ve reverted back to the formula from the end of last season, creating our own custom tables from the Members area and looking at player and team statistics over the last four matches as a gauge of form.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, itโ€™s one-way traffic in this weekโ€™s Captain Poll as Chelsea prepare for a home encounter with Villa. After serving up a 17-point return in his previous appearance at the Bridge, Diego Costa has been nominated by 55% of the voters so far, with Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas persuading just 1% of Fantasy managers that theyโ€™re worthy of the armband.

A goal and assist in each of his last two appearances makes Unitedโ€™s Angel di Maria second only to Costa โ€“ 11% have given the Argentine the nod, with 2% opting for Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao. Despite netting against Leicester last weekend, Robin van Persie has been selected by less than 1% ahead of the home clash against West Ham โ€“ an indication, if ever, of our collective loss of faith in the Dutchmanโ€™s capabilities.

Southamptonโ€™s Graziano Pelle is also highly fancied, with over 7% giving him the nod. The Italian, who has delivered three goals and an assist in hisย last three, entertains a QPR side that has conceded four goals in both away matches under Harry Redknapp so far. Five goals in as many matches brings Leicesterโ€™s Leonardo Ulloa into consideration as he travels to Palace โ€“ the Argentine has been selected by 3%, the same as compatriot Sergio Aguero, for Cityโ€™s visit to Hull.

After game days I see people post the predicted average and the top 10K predicted average (I forget the site). Does that same site breakdown player ownership for the top 10K (or top 100K)? I'm curious to know Di Maria's numbers.

        Great, thanks.

Turns out 36% of people in the Top 10K started Di Maria last week, and he was the most transferred in by top 10K. So his overall 23% ownership underestimates his ownership at the high end of the game.

Not a Rooney owner but would not be worried about that at all.

He will start, he's the captain. Would be more worried about 10.5m spent on a forward playing out of position in the midfield, who is unlikely to be on penalties (RVP) and some corners (Di Maria) though he still should be on free kicks.

He will be fine this weekend and start against West Ham - could likely score too - a team he has done well against in the past, but long term he's a pretty concerning player to own at that price point.

Anyway, he'll start this weekend surely.

Falcao and RVP are better strikers and Mata is a better #10.

I'd go for B simply for balance. That 4.5m defender can be changed around easily, as can Aguero if needed. But with Ulloa you're stuck with under 6m for a striker spot w/out making 2 transfers.

Aguero, if he can remain fit, would be in my team .

Last year though, I wasted transfers (and took hits) transferring him in and out every time he hurt his knee, hamstring etc..

This year. I have Costa who seems to suffer some kind of hammy problem. I don't want another risk in my team, especially at 12m as it's too much to bench.

With Ulloa I can afford two big hitters in defence, 4 in midfield and still have Costa and Lukaku for example up front.

                True.

                I'm currently looking like this:

                Foster
                Chambers Wilson Baines
                Siggy Fab Sterling Di Maria
                Ulloa Costa Pelle

                Naylor Duff Boyd

The extra 4.3m to play with allows me to upgrade where I need I guess.

Think I'll be monitoring Welbeck and Lukaku

Managing the wife's team as well as mine and as usual hers is doing better than mine! Anyway, this is hers this week,

    Foster
    Clyne chambers Cahill
    Ramsey Siggy sterling Cesc
    Costa (c) pelle Rooney

    Krul Marney wisdom Ferdinand

Any transfers worth doing or just save the ft?

Thinking that rooneys days are numbered so the ft might come in handy next week.

Only 2?!? with other games I have 8 teams. Sometimes it's no fun. When they all have a bad week it's depressing.

This is so weird. Just watching the Pie-o-my episode right now ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

It looks an extremely strong team this week, don't see anything worth changing personally. Like you say, 2 ft's would be good next week and figuring out a Rooney exit plan. So i'd just save the FT

Not worried the fact he's had so many shots/chances and only scored 3 goals? By all accounts pretty wasteful.

Considering transferring Ramsey to Di Maria (FT) - worthwhile? United have decent fixtures for the next three games so I could always bring Ramsey back later or even Walcott if he's back.

Other midfielders are Siggy, Fab and Sterling

Pretty common situation that comes up but I'd like to hear youz guys thoughts on it:

Ex - You have Siggy, Naylor, and PvA this GW. Siggy is nailed on starter in your team. Do you hedge your bets a bit and start PvA (H) or let it ride so to speak and go Naylor (A)?

Maybe this is super trivial but to me it seems Naylor (A) is the correct option.
