As always on a Friday lunchtime, we analyse the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. Below we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

This weekend there is a £1,000 Guaranteed Pot on offer at PlayON where you can enter up to three different teams into the game.

Goalkeeper – Steve Harper
Hull’s back-up keeper is set to earn his first start of the campaign after Allan McGregor was ruled out for a month with a shoulder injury. Coming in at only 6.9m, Harper looks a great budget option as the Tigers play Hull host to Crystal Palace tomorrow afternoon, with save points likely to heighten his points potential. West Ham will be hoping for a first clean sheet of the season this weekend at home to Queens Park Rangers. Sam Allardyce’s side have been untypically porous so far and their backline options are subsequently priced on the kind side – Adrian is available for just 7.6m and faces an attack that has scored just once on their travels to date.

Defender – Alberto Moreno
The Liverpool left-back is our defensive punt for the weekend, ahead of a home encounter with West Brom. Rested for the midweek trip to FC Basel, Moreno – who sets you back just 8.1m – is set to return to the Reds’ starting XI and, although his side are still struggling for clean sheets, the Baggies have scored just one away goal this season. Moreno’s raids down the flank could make the investment worthwhile alone, as he goes in search of a second league goal in six appearances. At only 7.1m, Neil Taylor looks an absolute steal for Swansea’s home clash with Newcastle. The home side have conceded just once in front of their own fans, whilst the Magpies have drawn blanks in all three road trips, suggesting a clean sheet could be on the cards. Taylor’s recent assist against Chelsea also underlines his potential at both ends of the pitch.

Midfielder – Will Buckley
Handed his first full 90 minutes for Sunderland last week, the summer signing from Brighton looks set to retain his role after impressing manager Gus Poyet. After scoring 19 in 96 appearances for Brighton, Buckley will be keen to get his first goal in the top flight as the Black Cats entertain Stoke and, at just 7.7m in PlayON this week, the winger also allows funds to be utilised elsewhere in the team. David Silva is our essential midfield pick. The City playmaker reminded us of his ability by serving up a pair of assists at Hull last weekend and with a trip to Villa up next for the champions, the Spaniard – who costs 10.3m – offers an in-form route into Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Forward – Diafra Sakho
The West Ham striker has now scored in each of his last four starts across all competitions, including recent strikes against Liverpool and Man United. With the Hammers welcoming a QPR side that have conceded 10 times in three away matches this season, Sakho could be amongst the goals yet again for Big Sam’s side and looks excellent value at just 9.4m.Leicester’s home clash with Burnley brings Leonardo Ulloa into contention. The Argentine has netted five times in six appearances for the Championship winners and, crucially, has scored in every home fixture – coming in at 10.5m, he’ll fancy his chances against a backline that shipped four goals to West Brom last Sunday afternoon.

Head over to www.playon.co and get picking ahead of the 10.45am deadline tomorrow morning.

      Costa for security, Ulloa for differential.

      Don't like B or C, too risky.

        I know Costa is likely to start against Arsenal, but his fitness is an issue I feel. Maybe Ulloa is more secured? Both in form and at home.

          Yeah Ulloa should get more minutes. Burnley have displayed shocking performances so he's certainly a good choice.

    Which transfer is the priority for next GW

    1) Krul > Forster (also have Foster) - reason for switch is obvious
    2) Vardy > Aguero - worries me not having Aguero but Vardy ahs a very good run and massive differential
    3) Ivanovic > Chambers - frees up some cash, Chelsea not defensive til after Xmas. Arsenal have a good run coming up and historically very good defence.

    5th repost (this week)

    2-tier draft league starting this Sunday night (after the games).

    Both leagues are 20-team leagues. Will expand to three leagues next season. Bottom three teams in leagues relegated down. Top 3 teams in lower leagues promoted.

    If interested, e-mail planeticket@mail.com and I will send you an e-mail back from my hotmail account that I don't want to post in a public forum.

    * Going out the door, won't post again until the DZ, though those of you in the league here can feel free to share. Have room for about 9 more entrants, at least.

    Just finished a 4.5hr road trip with the misses. On the way I thought I would play the podcast for us to listen to, and ease us part of the way up the road.
    Now usually I don't give her the privilege of listening to the podcasts, but she wanted me to tell mark that his voice was hurting her ears because we had to turn it up at times when he was whispering (or not speaking into the mic), and at other times yelling (speaking too close to the mic).

    Has anyone else noticed this?

        Even against the toughest opponents I would expect better attacking stats for a captain choice. Besides there are much harder fixtures than Sunderland away, southhampton at Home and a chelsea side that has been defensively poorer than usual this season.

      • 14 Years

      If Costa explodes it could be very damaging. If Kun explodes you could soar up the ranks.

      Costa = Safe/Dullard
      Kun = Risky/Maverick

      It depends on your ambitions for the season.

          Fab/Roon -> Aguero/Tadic

          I'll probably remove ADM for Wally/Ozil GW9 if he's fit anyway. So the choice between Fab and ADM wasn't too significant.

        Haha currently on Costa 🙂

        Although I'm likely to switch as the risk/reward you mention is somewhat mitigated by the fact that they're both likely to do well.

    Thoughts on my Wildcard team please. (Names in brackets shown my other options)

    Mannone | Heaton
    Bertrand | N Taylor | Chambers (Wilson) | Wisdom | Moore (Duff or Hutton)
    Silva | Fabregas | Sterling | Sigurdsson (Chadli or Puncheon) | Jedinak
    Costa | Aguero | Pelle

    I feel like I'm lacking a Man Utd player. Wanted to get Di Maria in there but couldn't find a way to afford him.

    Jedinak is only there to play when Sigs has a tough away fixture.

      I'd go Wilson over Chambers.

      Could you go Siggy to Downing and Silva to ADM?

    1. Zaha + Lamela --> Boyd + ADM

    2. Zaha + lamela --> Downing/Lampard + Tadic

    Zaha/Boyd/Downing/Lampard are vying for the 5th mid spot.

      definitely risky. even the most attacking full backs blank more often than they score/assist, and liverpool aren't the most backable clean sheeters right now

      i know it's hard but i'd try and be cold and ignorant of rivals. if you think costa will score better cap him, if you think aguero will score better cap him

        it's hard to "think" who will score better though. so many pros with both it messes with your head. eventually, factors such as rivals do come in

    So are people seriously considering Lampard at a low, low price of 5.4?
    He might not be starting every week, but we've seen what he can do coming off the bench.
    I guess you just have to be prepared for a few 1 pointers as an owner, but i am seriously considering him as a Ramsey replacement.

      Now I know that Costa and Kun are OK I could do Rodwell->Lamps and play 5 in midfield (benching Welbeck). It's a big temptation.

      Probably depends on a couple of things.

      a) how do you think he will score compared to others ~5m options.
      b) do you want to have him as a sub

      if the answer to a) is favourable and the answer to b) is no then I would say he might be worth having - ie as a budget 5th playing mid if playing a 3-5-2.

      He's probably not worth having a sub as his playing time and scores will be unpredictable. However as a 5th playing cheap mid, theres a chance he may present an interesting option.

    bringing in gerrard now blocks getting sturridge (at least for free) for qpr and HUL. anyone think that's a big deal?
    alternative is mata to leave more doors open. and mata is actually attacking and i wouldn't be relying on set-pieces and therefore become a massive hyprocrite after preaching against gerrard and yaya all last season

      Getting either is based on the idea that Liverpool might score a goal at some point. Not sure I can see it at the moment :-S

      • 14 Years
      11 years, 6 months ago

      I'm considering Gerrard for the next 4, but his reliance on set pieces is a worry. Obviously he still ended up as one of the top-scoring mids last year, but I'm not sure if i want to take the risk.

      If you got Sturridge for qpr and HUL who would you drop for him? Presumably you own Costa, but no Aguero?
