Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Arsenal
Jack Wilshere was forced off with a knee problem in the weekend draw with Hull. Post-match, though, Arsene Wenger allayed fears over the midfielder’s fitness by insisting he’ll be available to play in the midweek Champions League encounter against Benfica.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker deputised for the injured Philippe Senderos away to Everton but was forced off after sustaining a “pretty bad” hamstring injury, Paul Lambert has confirmed. The Villa boss has since revealed he is optimistic that Senderos will return for next Monday’s trip to QPR.

Crystal Palace
The club’s official match report confirmed midfielder James McArthur was withdrawn just before the hour-mark after picking up a muscle injury in the narrow home loss to Chelsea.

Hull
Nikica Jelavic is set for scans later today after sustaining a twisted knee during the warm-up prior to the Tigers’ draw at Arsenal. Elsewhere, Steve Bruce has concerns at the back – the Hull boss revealed keeper Steve Harper was forced off with a damaged muscle in his arm, whilst Michael Dawson also had to be replaced at the Emirates after picking up a late injury. Speaking to the club’s official website, Bruce explained:

“Jelavic has unfortunately twisted his knee and he will have a scan on Monday. Dawson has an ankle problem and Harper looks as if he has ruptured his bicep, which is a horrible injury. We are probably going to have to recall Mark Oxley from his loan spell at Hibernian.”

Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge was missing yet again as the Reds squeezed past QPR at Loftus Road yesterday. After the 3-2 win, Brendan Rodgers rolled out an update on the injured striker, who has now failed to feature since Gameweek 3 for the Merseysiders:

“’He was returning from his thigh injury and medically everything was fine with that. Then, on his very first morning, he was jogging around the pitch in the warm-up – there was no action, no striking of a ball. He was jogging around the field and then in the actual warm-up, he felt his calf a little tight. The scan shows that there is a little bit of damage in his calf. So the medical team tell me it’s probably between two to four weeks, which is a huge disappointment for us. But we have enough players now.”

Manchester City
Frank Lampard was stretchered off within half an hour of City’s home win over Spurs with a muscle injury. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed after the match that the midfielder will miss tomorrow’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow. Pablo Zabaleta was omitted from the squad entirely but this was purely down to rest – he’s travelled to Russia and is expected to start tomorrow.

Newcastle
Paul Dummett was withdrawn after 72 minutes of the weekend win over Leicester after suffering a recurrence of the hamstring problem which forced him out of international duties. Mike Williamson missed out altogether due to injury, the Magpies have confirmed. Cheick Tiote was forced out of the Magpies’ starting XI after picking up a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

QPR
Rob Green missed yesterday’s clash with Liverpool due to illness, allowing Alex McCarthy his first start of the season. Elsewhere at the back, Nedum Onouha was replaced at the break against the Reds after picking up a hamstring injury. Sandro was also replaced midway through the second period after picking up an injury, according to the club’s official Twitter stream.

Stoke
Reports suggest Victor Moses was subbed off midway through the second  half of yesterday’s win over Swansea due to injury. Phil Bardsley picked up a knock late on but, with the home side having made all three substitutions, stayed on the field.

Swansea
Defender Ashley Richards missed the trip to Stoke due to injury.

West Ham
James Tomkins was sidelined for the weekend win at Burnley after picking up a thigh problem, whilst Mauro Zarate also missed the match due to a minor knee problem.

Why is there something of a Barkley bandwagon emerging? I remember owning him when he was very cheap, and it was very disappointing.

he is a good player, more experience, great fixtures and a nice differential right now.

          sure

that's why i got Baines, Coleman and Barkley

that, or I'm just a pathetically hopeful Everton fan

perhaps a bit of both 😉

Everyone wants an "emerging " English player.

Barkley next season maybe - rough diamond at the mo. ?

    Lloris, Murphy
    Lovren, Duff, Taylor, Coloccini, PVA
    Puncheon, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Downing, Tadic
    Costa, Pellè, Falcao

    1FT, £3.7 ITB

    What should I do?

Lovren to Baines now and take a hit for Costa -> Aguero after Friday's press conference if we're told that Costa will be out for a while?

    1. Sidowski
      • 11 Years

Definately Lovren into Baines, not sure if Costa into Aguero is the best option. I personally remember Aguero from last season. He played an amazing game, loads of people bought him and next gameweek he got injured.

I see a couple of problem areas. Forwards a great. Mid (Puncheon, Downing, maybe even Siggy if he doesn't start producing). On D (Lovern, Duff, PVA, Colo) would all be on there way of my team.

Don't mean to hate. Just saying some of the players you got are way to inconsistent. Lovern to Baines would be a sweet transfer but may want to spread the wealth around.

None of the big hitting defenders are doing well, Southampton defenders are on form but they've only got four more GWs of good fixtures, then their points will dry up.

No need to WC though surely?
Puncheon is a problem, I'll give him two GWs, if he can't score points away to West Brom or at home to the Mackems he's gone.
I'm happy with Siggy and Downing at their price.
There aren't many better 4.5 or 4.0 defenders around than the ones I have, would be a waste of a transfer.

    A) PvA > Jagielka & save 1FT
    B) PvA & Sterling > Baines & Tadic
    C) PvA, AdM & Siggy > Baines, Tadic & Eriksen for a hit

    Cheers

I guess it's basically Reus or a big gun. I'm not sure who to get though - Gala looked absolutely awful against Arsenal so Reus might better the likes of Neymar/Mandy/Aguero. If Ibra was fit I'd get him. Anyone else you'd recommend?

Both decent options. CSKA were surprisingly decent against Bayern so I'm not sure about Dzeko. Cavani has tempted me but I really fecking love Reus 🙂

Ah if Costa is out ofc take him out instead, when I said Hazard I meant assuming Costa is fit.

Purely based on form, Hazard is hugely frustrating. (Captained him instead of Costa for his hattrick v Swans)

can I just get a second opinion here (ive given myself a sums headache)

    I bought for 10.5

Anyone watched the Arsenal game? Did Cazorla play behind Welbeck? I got him before this GW and planned him to stay until Walcott is fit to start but now i am considering other options. Shall i give him one more chance vs a problematic Sunderland?

ye he did play in the hole but he is currently being overshadowed by sanchez, but yes now that you have him ,I would give him the Sunderland game at least.

Considering benching Costa and Fabregas for next week, here's the team i'd put out instead:

    Green (AVL)

Hutton(qpr) Clyne (STK) Taylor(LEI) Baines (bur) Bertrand (STK)

Sterling (HUL) Sigurdsson (LEI) Chadli (NEW)

    Pellè (STK) Agüero (whm)

Subs: Begovic (sou) Diego Costa (mun) Fábregas (mun) Marney (EVE)

I expect a lot of CS from that defense, and think the Chelsea United game will probably end in 1-0 (could go either way), Costa probably won't play so I could only be missing on some fab points, thoughts?
