As always, our first look at the fixture ticker over the next four to six Gameweeks starts with those teams who have kind upcoming schedules. We see that Everton are handed an opportunity to make up lost ground, Southampton have every chance of keeping their crown as the best value team across the Fantasy games, whilst Man City and Tottenham both heave into view with an eye-catching run of opponents.

Everton

“frisking

Marking the start of their excellent schedule with an emphatic victory over Aston Villa last week, the Toffees present a strong case for consideration. Their forthcoming fixtures look highly promising, with home fixtures against Swansea, West Ham and Hull, plus trips to Burnley and Sunderland, blighted only by a visit to Spurs.

Registering their second clean sheet of the season, Everton have struggled to repeat last term’s resilience but these fixtures could get them back on track. Phil Jagielka notched his second strike of the season but the wise money would seem to be on full-backs Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines, with the latter’s spot-kicks seeming to give him the edge.

In midfield, the return of Ross Barkley could see him kick on from his breakthrough season and become a genuine contender, though it’s concerning that not one attacking midfielder has played more than 120 minutes over the last two matches, suggesting that Roberto Martinez intends to continue with his rotation policy. Up front, Romelu Lukaku scored his third goal of the season and is starting to challenge Steven Naismith for top goalscorer, though the Scotsman’s budget price tag makes it a tough choice.

Tottenham

“frisking

It’s widely accepted that the weekend’s scoreline flattered Man City somewhat, and though they were undone by the genius of Sergio Aguero, there was much to admire about the performance of Mauricio Pochettino’s side as he wrangles them around to his way of thinking. Tottenham now have the chance to show their progress as they prepare to face a more obliging set of opponents. The next four fixtures include home matches against Newcastle and Stoke, plus trips to Aston Villa and Hull.

Such fixtures ought to be prosperous for the Spurs defence and, at 5.6, Hugo Lloris sits atop the Fantasy Premier League keeper standings right now. If you’re looking to invest in defence, though, Younes Kaboul or Danny Rose both set you back 5.0. In midfield, Erik Lamela has failed to bear the fruit that his blossoming pre-season promised us, but Christian Eriksen has been steadily building in stature with back-to-back goals against tough opponents. The Dane was a Fantasy force to be reckoned with under Tim Sherwood and the signs are that he could be ready to do so again. Nacer Chadli’s star has waned slightly since his early-season successes but he still offers more close-range threat than the former Ajax man, and at 6.4 to Eriksen’s 7.8, teh Belgian remains excellent value. After his international exertions, Emmanuel Adebayor was dropped for Roberto Soldado against City, though both players look woefully out of form right now and it may be best to invest elsewhere.

Southampton

“frisking

Delivering the talking point of the week with their merciless thrashing of Sunderland, Ronald Koeman’s team are Fantasy royalty at the moment, serving up elite points for mid-priced investment. The Saints still have four Gameweeks of good-looking fixtures to mine for points before the skies darken and their fixture ticker turns red. Home clashes against Stoke and Leicester combine with trips to Hull and Aston Villa to make a strong case for their assets.

Fraser Forster is second overall for goalkeepers, though for a similar price you can have the added goals, assists and bonus points of either of Nathaniel Clyne or Ryan Bertrand. In midfield, Dusan Tadic finally served up the goal he’d been threatening for some time and added four assists for good measure to record a mammoth 23-point haul for the Gameweek and it’s hard to look past him, though Sadio Mane, at 6.9, could be an alternative after also opening his account for the club last weekend. In attack, Graziano Pelle has picked up where he left off in the Eredivisie and has now equalled Diego Costa’s points tally – available at a mere 8.1, he looks irresistible right now.

Man City

“frisking

The title holders are gradually moving up through the gears, and while last weekend’s scoreline against Spurs may not have been entirely reflective of the balance of play, it’s hard to see many of their upcoming opponents offering much resistance. City’s next six Gameweeks may include just a couple of home fixtures, but bearing in mind they host United’s leaky defence and pay visit to two of the current bottom four, Fantasy managers won’t be deterred.

The defence has yet to fully gel and for Fantasy purposes two clean sheets seems scant reward for top price-bracket players. With rotation blighting three of the four slots, only Vincent Kompany looks recommendable for those managers who see an upturn in defensive resolve. The City midfield is similarly troubling; both David Silva and Yaya Toure are toiling for Fantasy returns while rotation casts doubt over the value of other players – though James Milner, at 5.3, could be worth a budget punt. Up top, though, Sergio Aguero’s masterclass of a performance against Spurs has underlined his potential and, with doubts over Costa’s fitness, arguably labels him “essential†in some managers’ eyes.

Also Consider

Aston Villa
Rolled over by Everton, Paul Lambert will be hoping that a five-Gameweek stretch of heavyweight opponents hasn’t knocked all the belief and momentum out of his side. Certainly, trips to QPR, West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace would seem tailor-made for Villa’s counter-attacking style and Fantasy points could be flowing again. Brad Guzan could offer good value if they can regain their defensive form, while Alan Hutton is likely to do better than the one point per game he has averaged in the last four Gameweeks. Goalless since Gameweek 4, it’s hard to recommend any of Villa’s attacking assets, but as Christian Benteke returns to fitness following his long injury, his performances will be key to resurrecting the Villains’ fortunes.

Liverpool
Mired in a woeful rut of dire form, Brendan Rodgers does at least still have the fixtures on side to turn things around. Home matches against Hull and Stoke plus trips to Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Leicester could scarcely be kinder but faith in the defence is at an all-time low after conceding two goals to lowly QPR. With Mario Balotelli struggling and Daniel Sturridge injured yet again, Fantasy investment seems limited to the midfield. Raheem Sterling kept his legion of owners satisfied with an assist on Sunday but Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson aren’t as far behind as their ownership numbers would suggest and offer viable alternatives to the England starlet.

Arsenal
Held to a draw by Hull City, Arsene Wenger’s injury-riddled squad has still only been beaten by Chelsea so far. The Gunners have some decent-looking fixtures to come, with trips to Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom plus a home clash against Burnley to boost their prospects at both ends of the pitch. Arsenal’s defence has yet to bear fruit this season, with just a single clean sheet to show, but Calum Chambers (4.6) is back from suspension and could offer good value for would-be investors. In midfield, Alexis Sanchez is becoming hard to ignore – handed the full 90 minutes at the weekend, his form continued with a goal, assist and maximum bonus, though with Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott closing in on first-team returns, we won’t be short of options for long. Danny Welbeck’s second Premier League goal in an Arsenal shirt will help his confidence and his 7.3 price tag makes him an excellent-value prospect.

They do, but Eriksen likely to be given the night off.

Only joshing with you, they're good moves. Maybe prefer Chadli against Newcastle but Tadic is on pens and form and going up in price.

Costa was in training pics LAST week and still didn't play. I'd want to see him skin Cahill over 40 yards, give Ivanovic a wedgie, then tee up his own scissor kick into the roof of the net, before I'm persuaded he's fit for Sunday.

No ways, AB. I guess karma was you bringing in Sturridge, right? 😉

I'm scared sh!tless. I sold Costa in GW3 last time Mourinho told me he was injured and he went and scored 5 goals in 2 games. If I keep and he IS injured then in a roundabout way, Mourinho has trolled me again.

I bought for 10.9m so really should get rid, I think. Hazard(c) and double up with Fabs.

mourinho never said he was injured, he said he was a doubt and would be assessed after training on the friday. i think there's only one reason to make the comparison between now and before and that's hopeful owners as there is no real link. he's not even training now. it's not protecting from an injury which might happen, an injury has happened! he was playing at least once a week when supposedly being protected, now he's missed 2 in a row

Worth doing Costa to Aguero for free? Don't really want to give up any of my premium players but if I have to I may as well take out the injured one!

    Begovic, Elliot
    Baines, Terry, Coloccini, Duff, Wisdom
Di Maria, Fabregas, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Jones
    Costa, Pelle, Welbeck

If you have Aguero and Pelle then there really isn't a stand out pick for Costa.

It would have been Sturridge if he was fit.

Maybe its time to go 3-5-2 as there are lots of midfield options.

    Sick of it.

2FT's and no idea what to do. No Baines or Pellè/Tadic but I loathe to sell a big gun like ADM, Costa, Sterling or Fab.

ADM -> Chadli and Naylor -> Baines was on the cards but ADM is the highest PPG in FPL and United can only get better...

    Mental to just do nothing?

Swans are home to Leicester this week and Liverpool are home to Hull.

Why would they need to go now? I can sell Naylor next week and Moreno could finally deliver something this week!

If you're keeping Costa, would take the chance to ditch Moreno and save the other. Yes he has good fixtures still, but he's now a rotation risk and not worth his price in that leaky defence.

Rotation risk? He was rested (along with the other fullback) for Real. He's definitely first choice, especially after J. Enrique put in a shitter.

He's definitely first choice, but if Rodgers is resting him for CL games, then by definition I'd say that makes him a rotation risk.

Costa will play there's no way he's missing any big game in his first season with Chelsea unless he's torn a hammy which he hasn't otherwise it would be all over the news like when Sturridge and Aguero get injured, Mou clearly saw this was a perfect time to rest him. If you don't have him or Aguero then I would probably switch to Aguero so you can have one of them.

Also why are people getting rid of Sterling, biggest mistake ever. the guy is involved in all our attacks and could end up even playing oop soon. Sterling had 3 goals 2 assist only by Jan1st last season he's already got 3 goals and 3 assist. Not only that but people are getting rid for Tadic and Eriksen...crazy

      Sterling.
I don't understand dropping a team's essential player either. A case can be made for many Chelsea or City mids or strikers. But in teams where one player is the stand out option, then to dump them seems odd to me.

he got 9gls 7 ast last season he'll improve that easily, all this talk of him being tired is/was an overreaction. even then if he gets benched for a game he's the one player that can be damaging just because of his speed and dribbling ability at the end of games.

Chelsea have a 5 point lead at the top of the table - I would have disagreed with you vehemently if Remy had not done his groin today - Remy would be totally acceptable at United, but with Remy out, I think the pressure to play Costa will be greater as Drogba doesn't offer what he used to at 36 years old.

The match at Old Trafford is on Sunday the 26th - exactly 2 weeks after Spain's match on Sunday the 12th. I've pulled hamstrings before playing competitively and if it's not a tear, 2 weeks is plenty of time for resting sore/injured muscles. If it's a tear of course (which has not been reported) he'd miss out.

All that being said, I took Costa out for Aguero for a free transfer (had 1.6m in the bank - just enough).

If his price drops to 11 then selling him like I did at 10.8 won't be a huge issue and with 2 free transfers next week I can bring him back into the team at home to QPR if he's fit and for some reason the likes of Di Maria, Hazard or Sterling have picked up an injury.

The way I look at it, Aguero is a better player, is also City's penalty taker, and is in form, and has the better (1 week) short term matchup - so for me it's not a big decision.

If Costa was definitely fit, I would DEFINITELY keep him, but I have the luxury of the money in the bank.

I should also note I am a big fan of Hazard, and though my patience has not been rewarded thus far (Fabregas' price has risen more and he has scored more points), with penalties in his locker and a bit of confidence/form from today's match, he could just as well match Costa over the next few weeks especially if Costa misses a match or two.

like i said if you have both you can afford to keep costa, if not you probably should get Aguero anyway before its too late. ideally you want both anyway

        1. Ibracadabra
          • 16 Years
          11 years, 2 months ago

Yup - I could have kept Costa this week and brought in Aguero for free (sacrificing Hazard or Sterling or Di Maria) but decided against it. Basically I am betting on Hazard / Di Maria / Sterling to outscore Costa this week only - and can then get him back (if fit) at home to QPR where I have 1 more week to take a look at the aforementioned trio for the potential chopping block.

Who knows, maybe Aguero does his hamstring and I just go straight back to Costa. For a man who only played about 1/2 the season last year and 1/2 the season the year prior to that, it certainly wouldn't shock me.

And Chelsea managed to score 8 goals in the last two games without Costa, so they'll be fine if he misses one more match.

chelsea have atleast 3 players you want where everything goes through them, having atleast 2 no matter their fixtures is good this season ( attacking players) they aren't as defensive as last season. The only thing that puts me off haz is he said it himself that he doesn't have to score as much this season as last.

Aguero has gotten to the point where he's almost to expensive to be able to get for some. otherwise I'm sure others would have him and costa

yeah I'm happy to have Costa and Aguero right now even if it means I need to have Naismith as my third (which by his own right could still do quite well with their fixtures) and I would be happy to keep Costa if it turns out he's totally fine for United and will still be fine for QPR as well..

Compared Kaboul and Rose for a few mins and it's really even between those two.

    Kaboul
    - captain, slightly more nailed on
    - got 1 bap on 2 occasions this season
    - played once in EL
    - 1.1 % ownership in last GW's top 10k, 3.3 % of all

    Rose
    - more attacking, 1 assist this season and better stats earlier seasons
    - less nailed on but played all games he's been available for in EPL
    - might get hauled off earlier, happened twice this season so far. Larger chance of keeping CS then
    - gets slightly more cards
    - on the bench twice in EL
    - 0.9 % ownership in last GW's top 10k, 3.9 % of all
