Charlie Austin grabs both goals and Eduardo Vargas bags an assist as QPR see off Villa 2-0 at Loftus Road. Paul Lambert’s side fail to score for the fifth successive league match as popular budget option Alan Hutton misses out with an ankle complaint.

Austin at the Double
The R’s frontman was partnered by Bobby Zamora and scored twice as Harry Redknapp’s side climbed off the bottom with a vital home win over Villa. Owned by just 0.3% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers heading into last night’s encounter, Austin’s brace underlined how increasingly influential he’s becoming in recent matches – that’s three goals and an assist in his last four, compared to a single strike in the first five Gameweeks. With back-to-back showdowns against Chelsea and City in the next two, it’s fair to say few will be looking at the R’s right now, but with Newcastle, Leicester, Swansea and Burnley from Gameweek 12 onwards, the 5.7-priced Austin may yet persuade some he could be worthy of the outlay.

Vargas in the Points Once More
Having emerged from the bench to notch twice against Liverpool, the Chilean was handed a starting role on the right last night before moving up top in light of Zamora’s withdrawal. After teeing up Austin for the second, Vargas took his tally to two goals and a pair of assists in his last three appearances, but at 6.4, few will be willing to consider him over Austin, given that the latter also has spot-kick duties to bolster his appeal.

Ferdinand Benched Again
The centre-half was a sub against Liverpool last time around after sustaining a minor groin problem prior to the match. Despite his availability for last night’s encounter, Redknapp continued with Richard Dunne alongside Steven Caulker and was rewarded with a second clean sheet of the season, suggesting Ferdinand’s pitch time is in real danger, with his 4% of FPL owners looking for a way out.

Another Blank for Villa
The signs look ominous for the Midlands outfit after they failed to score for the fifth successive Gameweek last night. To some extent, it was understandable that Paul Lambert’s side had drawn blanks against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Everton but hopes were high of a turnaround at Loftus Road, given that their hosts had conceded at least twice in six of the previous seven. Christian Benteke and co. once again failed to impress, and with Spurs, West Ham and Southampton in the next three, Fantasy faith in Villa’s main men is unlikely to pick up anytime soon.

Hutton Worry for Lambert
An ever-present over the first eight Gameweeks for Villa, the right-back was sidelined due to an ankle problem last night. Hutton is the most popular cut-price defender in the FPL game – now up to 4.2, he currently sits in over 13% of sides after serving up three clean sheets in the first four. Having conceded 13 goals and earned his owners four points in the subsequent five, a possible spell on the sidelines could be the ideal opportunity to part company with the Scot as Villa’s toils continue.

      I'm no expert on how players chosen, but probably due to fact he's not attacking enough & just chips in with an assist per game (nothing wrong with that) but the watchlist probably concerns itself more with higher attacking returns

        Thinking after this GW I definetly want more City players as I only have Aguero. Maybe I'll go Tadic - Milner or Ivanovic - Kompany orrrr Tadic/Ivanovic for Silva/Kolorov

          Ivan to Kompany looks good to me but City defense isn't that strong, so not a priority. Silva will be good pick if you have patience to hold him and have 1 more spot for premium mids 🙂

    A) Lukaku + Tadic —–> Hazard/Sanchez + Berahino/Eto

    B) DDG + Sterling —-> Foster/(Jakupovic) + Hazard/(Sanchez) (-4)

    Can only get Sanchez if I go Jakupovic.

    A would mean starting the process of getting rid of my 3 Saints. B would be keeping Lukaku but no Sterling I suppose.

    Would love to hear if you'd rather Snachez or Hazard!

      Not sure about both moves. Overall both moves looks a bit downgrade instead of potential upgrade... If I have to, will choose 2nd as it has low chance of backfiring. Being Hazard owner, I would never suggest someone to get him, so Sanchez 🙂

    Does the under valuing of African players that Yaya Toure claims exists in world football also have a home in FF? For example, over comparable fixtures Pelle and Sakho have the same tally of goals yet Pelle has risen 700k and latter only 200k. Team mate Song reckons Sakho would be receiving far more plaudits if his seven goals in seven games had come in the shirt of a Champions League team. Is that why you haven't signed him?

      I'm not really sure what any of that has to do with players being African tbh.

      This is fpl which only concerns the PL. Sahko only has 5 goals not 7 while Pelle has 6. You also can't ignore that Pelle has 3 assists.

      1. Jazzmattazz
        • 13 Years
        11 years, 4 months ago

        5? 7?...whilst all his goals are not PL if you were considering buying him you would take other competition goals into consideration surely? Yes I agree Pelle has more assists, but over comparable fixtures the transfer difference is quite phenomenal don't you think? How many transfers does it take to make a price 0.1 increase let alone 0.8? Especially as the difference in their costs could net you a Baines or big hitting mid. I'm not saying its a racist motive. Just that maybe African players are under valued and maybe they have to do more and sooner to come into our team's affections.

    I've got a defence problem. I can only field 2 players next GW without taking a hit.

    My defence is Baines, Apzi, Clyne, Hutton and Blackett. Basically I would be taking a hit to ship out and ship in a budget defender. Not good.

    Would it be better to just field 10 players?

      Best to steer clear of Villa players atm. Not to base their entire season on one performance but they did make QPR look like a damn fine team.

    Captain Sanchez over Costa this GW, given the latter's injury problems lately?

      Sanchez, costa, hazard, aguero all great options this week.

      Sanchez for me if you own him. He is likely to tear Burnley a new one this week

    Afternoon all. Here's my current team, but strongly considering a -4 to bring in Sanchez and hand him the armband. If Costa is ruled out, i'm considering playing the WC and strengthening the rest of the team by bringing in Berahino. What do you think? Any suggestions?

    Krul

    Cahill Chambers Bertrand (Bruce, Hutton)

    Sterling Siggy ADM Tadic (Albrighton)

    Costa Aguero Pelle

        Costa --> Berahino
        Cahill --> Baines
        Tadic --> Sanchez
        Krul --> Adrian

        etc.

          Ahhh....Makes more sense. I'll say this, your team does look in good shape and a couple of FTs and a hit if needed should be more than enough to fix any problems you have.

        I'd wait for more Costa news and just take him out for a striker and get Sanchez on a FT .

    Pelle worth considering as captain? Otherwise, I fall on Kun or Sterlling. Don't have the balls unfortunately to consider Dat Guy.

      Has to be Kun in that case. He's a beast at home (11 shots vs spurs) and utd haven't exactly been solid this year.

        One of those rare moments I'd rather Kun blanked as a United fan 😛

    With regard to price changes: how close is totalfpl? If the change is nowhere near happening on there, is it reasonably safe to assume it won't happen tonight?

      Totalfpl is terrible. fplstatistics & fantasyfootballfix.com are the better 2.

    Different day, same question (albeit asked slightly differently).

    A. Boyd - Di Maria - Aguero - Costa
    B. Sterling - Diame - Aguero - Costa
    C. Chadli - Di Maria - Aguero - Welbeck

    Krul / Foster
    Coloccini / Bertrand / Baines / Clyne / Wisdom
    Marney / Sigurdsson / Fábregas
    Pellè

    A leaves me with two Burnley midfielders, but is what I'm favouring at the moment. 😯

      A is best but you'll need to upgrade marney asap. Downgrade clyne in a couple weeks maybe.

    Can somebody enlighten me as to how the bonus system works on FPL; it often seems so random. Fabregas, for example, was at best decent on Sunday and yet he got 2 bonus points. Is this purely based on his assist? The Guardian named Hazard as their man of the match, undoubtedly he was better than Fabregas. I've noticed this on several occasions with players who really don't have the best of games and yet pick up all of the bonus points....

    Thanks

        Pet peeve of mine. Good stats do not necessarily translate into a good performance in my opinion. Nonetheless, I can understand the more simplistic nature of awarding them by stats.

    Might Sanchez rise again before game to Burnley? Alternatively will Sterling drop again?

    I though Sterling -Sanchez -4 was unnecessary but others think differently....
