Saturday delivers six Premier League encounters this afternoon, before Arsenal’s clash with United ends proceedings in style at the Emirates.

The team news, from Goodison in particular, will hit Fantasy managers hard.

Both Leighton Baines and Stewart Downing miss out on Merseyside, as the Hammers are forced to make no less than five changes to their lineup due to international duty exertions. Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia, Alex Song and Cheikhou Kouyate also fail to make Sam Allardyce’s selection as Andy Carroll renews his “marriage” with Kevin Nolan in today’s lineup. As for Everton, they recall Steven Naismith and hand a surprise start to Kevin Mirallas (7.2 anyone?) on his return from injury. Samuel Eto’o and Aiden McGeady drop to the Toffees’ bench.

Elsewhere, Cesc Fabregas is fit to start for Chelsea as Jose Mourinho recalls Willian for the fatigued Ramires in his midfield. The visitors give a first start to Chris Baird at left-back with Sébastien Pocognoli missing out, while Stephane Sessegnon is recalled and both Craig Gardner and Claudio Yacob earn midfield berths in what looks to be a cautious Baggies setup.

City recall both Pablo Zabaleta and skipper Vincent Kompany to their back four for the visit of Swansea, while Stevan Jovetic starts up front in what looks to be a 4-4-2. Garry Monk, rather surprisingly, keeps Jonjo Shelvey on his bench, retaining Tom Carroll in midfield.

Up in the north East, Alan Pardew has little option but to hand Mike Williamson a start for his injured skipper, Fabricio Coloccini. Fantasy favourite, Ryan Taylor looks to be making his first Newcastle start after long-time injury in the midfield to replace the injured Mehdi Abeid. The R’s also make changes in opposition, as Nedum Onuoha comes in for Mauricio Isla who drops to the bench, while Joey Barton replaces Eduardo Vargas.

That’s both QPR’s Chileans out of the starting lineup, presumably due to their long-haul flights and late returns. Anyone worried for Sanchez this evening? Yeah, me too.

Good luck to all. Play up George Boyd!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Pelle&Clyne > ???

    Team is:

    Krul(Schmeichel)
    Clyne-Ivanovic-Wisdom-Duff-Chambers
    Sanchez-Chadli-Fabregas-Sigurdsson-Boyd
    Pelle-Aguero-Costa

2FT and 0,1M in the bank. Just short of doing to Naylor and Bony, but that would be a tad much Swansea anyway.. Cresswell impressive but the striker options make it extremely difficult!

No, no need for doubling up on Chelsea midfield either way, ADM still has value, if you don't have Sanchez swapping to him might be something to consider however.

It's okay saying 'if Sanchez gets a chance' but if he keeps picking the ball up on the edge of the box whilst a Wilshere, Ox and Welbeck run ahead he won't be getting near a goal.

Great for the team how hard he works though.

Right, anyone any kind of engineer?

What would be the best bridge to build across a river which has to be a 35m span and the bedrock is 10m below the water surface?

    Truss?

Firstly, this website will answer most of your questions. I disagree with him on a few points but I am guessing at your level that wont matter.

          http://www.childs-ceng.demon.co.uk/parts/prelim.html

At 35m's we havent quite hit the sweet spot for trusses. Best method is steel plate girders compositely connected to in-situ cast concrete deck. This will cause a lot of issues with construction so it depends whether you can suspend river traffic for the duration of construction.

Alternatively prestressed concrete beams or as you say truss can be used for faster erection time as they can be prefabricated offsite.

It is likely you will need some form of piles for your foundation to withstand such a load. As the bedrock is low you will want to use driven cast in-situ piles as they can act mainly using the friction of the soil and also end bearing on the bedrock.

Pad foundation would be prone to settlement if the soil is clayey, and if not clayey then it blatantly wont have sufficient resistance.

Not really at 35m span. Its unlikely the span will be that slender to be susceptible to resonance from the wind. The millenium bridge is the counter example but effort went in to making that abnormally slender.

A pontoon without a steady/sturdy structure especially in the ends would be submittable to blow away. (Not my language english so i might be having difficulty explaining what i mean)

I know what you are saying.

However, the wind is actually less powerful the closer to the surface of the ground you are. So a pontoon at water level doesnt experience as high a force as a bridge 10m's up.

But yes it would need some form of stiffening but also flexibility to move with the tides.

                    11 years, 4 months ago

Ok, yes but instead the closer to the water the forces of wind and water flow combines to a bigger force...... i just wanted to point out that without seing the place and knowing the variables it aint that easy as to throw out a few pontoons and then hope for the best.

I'm not nor am i gonna argue, you know your job. I'm an engineer also, but with physics and mechanics allthough i mostly work with mathematics

If you do this you will need to create flood arches underneath the road. This is a lot easier as they can be built into the approach spans in most cases.

It's not too much if they play like the first half today, the problem is Chelsea is controlling 2-0 leads etc after that 6-3 game against everton.. too much to have 3 offensive players from a team that don't want to win by more than 2

Yeah, their appetite for goals from the off was reminiscent of Liverpool last season.

The sending off changed everything. Imagine JM said at half time, this game is won, CL midweek lads, take it easy, get through it without injuries.

Or he nominated a player to say that.
