Yeah he's not able to do much more offensively than crossing. But that could be enough, especially in the home games.
I regularly hear that Liverpool only finished 2nd because of the Suarez effect. They also finished 8th and 7th in the previous 2 seasons with Suarez. Did those seasons not count?

Suarez blossomed last season. It was the combination of him and a fully fit Sturridge though really. But Suarez was immense in every way for them.
Season 1 = King Kenny and Big Dawg
Season 2= Big upswing with Studge
Season 3 = Unsustainably good season plus StudgeIt's all down to Brendan. He's a footballing genius.
He wasn't the player then that he was last season. No European matches was also a massive boost though

Well he scored 30 goals in 2012/13 and 31 goals in 2013/14. I think there's a narrative that everyone is sticking to, but it much more than that. Even if Suarez was still there, there's no guarantee they would be challenging again.

Good enough to carry Liverpool, and bag a move to Barca.Sure but Suarez wasn't the only player on the team. Gerrard hasn't carried his form over to this season, Agger gone, Sturridge injured, fewer penalties. There are a number of reasons apart from Suarez.
He lifted everyone around him.
Not just a matter of his output individually but how good he made those he played with.

Alternatively I could do Downing --> 6.8 / 7.8
AND upgrade one defender to Azpi

Probably. I quite like your team but Southampton/Stoke's tough looking runs and Downing's potential injury probably sway in favour of the Wildcard.
