Our last look back at Gameweek 12 casts an eye over Burnley’s in-form frontman and Palace’s improving attack under Neil Warnock, whilst we also assess the need to strengthen our benches after a number of call-offs left many Fantasy managers unable to field a full XI this weekend.

The Player

A finely taken double from Danny Ings in Burnley’s win at Stoke helped the Clarets off the foot of the table and handed Fantasy managers another budget forward to consider this weekend.

Ings arrived on the back of 20 strikes in the Championship last time around but, after failing to notch in the opening eight rounds of matches, seemed overawed by the step up to the top-flight. A goal against Everton in Gameweek 9 looks to have steadied the ship, though, and his weekend double took the England Under 21 star’s total to three goals in the last four Gameweeks – over that period, only three forwards have bettered Ings’ 15 attempts on goal.

Up next for Burnley are two crucial back-to-back home encounters with Villa and Newcastle before Ings faces a Loftus Road shoot-out with fellow budget forward Charlie Austin – fixtures that look vital to the Clarets’ plight. Like Austin, the in-form Ings sets us back less than 6.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and, with spot-kick duties also boosting his appeal, is starting to look just as essential to his side’s relegation battle as the season unfolds.

The Team

Elsewhere near the foot of the table, Crystal Palace showed they still have plenty to offer with a resounding 3-1 win over Liverpool that heaped further pressure on Brendan Rodgers.

Under the guidance of Tony Pulis last season, the Eagles’ transformation saw them concede just 27 times in the final 26 Gameweeks – the fourth most resilient defence in the top-flight over that period – but this came at a cost up front, as Palace scored just 26 goals for the former Stoke boss; only two sides netted less.

With Neil Warnock at the helm, there’s a far greater emphasis on attack now. Whilst they’ve already shipped 21 goals over 12 rounds of fixtures, the Eagles have notched 17 times – more than any side in the bottom half of the table and the eighth most potent offence in the league. Palace have only blanked three times so far, scoring against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and sticking three past both Merseyside teams, having beaten Everton at Goodison in mid-September.

Clearly aware of his side’s defensive frailties, Warnock is handing the 5.4-priced Yannick Bolasie license to forage down the left and the winger’s weekend pair of assists means he’s already bettered last term’s attacking returns. Mile Jedinak is quickly becoming this season’s budget Yaya Toure, albeit at a lesser level of returns. The Australian has already grabbed four goals (a tally bettered only by Alexis Sanchez and Nacer Chadli in midfield) and with three of those strikes arriving from dead-ball situations, he’s showing that, in spite of a deep-lying role, his penalty and free-kick duties are coming to the fore as Palace’s trickery poses more threat further up the field.

Whilst Dwight Gayle and Fraizer Campbell vie for the lone striker role and Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Zaha battle it out on the right, Bolasie and Jedinak look nailed-on by comparison and at 5.4 and 5.1 respectively, may well prove handy festive budget options for our five-man midfields at a time when rest and rotation will remain a real factor into the New Year. Bearing in mind both Bolasie and Jedinak are set to miss most of January due to international commitments, the upcoming schedule – which pits them against Villa, Spurs and Stoke’s porous backlines over the next four – looks more vital than ever to the Eagles’ prospects of ascending the table.

The Talking Point

Rest, rotation and international knocks and niggles hit hard this weekend as our benches were severely tested for the first time this term. As we edge towards the festive period, Saturday and Sunday served a timely heads-up that we cannot afford to have passengers in our 15-man squads – as the schedule picks up pace, we need to account for such scenarios and look to ditch the deadwood.

Addressing our non-active players is never the most glamourous of transfers but, at a time like this, can prove to be a wise decision. While the likes of Liam Moore and Alex Bruce have fallen down the pecking order at Leicester and Hull, there are handful of cut-price alternatives that provide us with regular starts – Paul Dummett and Yun Suk-Young, at 4.1 and 3.9, have established themselves at Newcastle and QPR. In midfield, we have George Boyd, at 4.4, who has started every match since arriving at Burnley and is ready to step into the breach should our hands be forced.

Looking at the schedule, there’s no let-up, either. Gameweeks 13 and 14 are only three days apart and set the tone for a hectic period of eight rounds of fixtures over 34 days from November 29 (next Saturday) onwards.

There’s every chance we’ll see Premier League managers continue to utilise the strength and depth of their squads from now into the New Year, then, and Fantasy managers will need to react accordingly and follow suit at a time where fielding a full XI in some Gameweeks could potentially make that mini-league difference come the end of the season.

I remember captaining Cech for a Chelsea DGW and remember it turning out pretty well.
I got 2 CS's and perhaps 2 points from saves in it. So 28 point captain!

I THINK I did it because there was a rotation/injury risk over my other chelsea players so he was the best option.

I wouldn't just yet, unless Chadli and Sakho prove to be longer term injured.

A bit negligent to still have PVA AND Mannone. Green can carry you through a few of the next fixtures and Villa/WBA's next fixtures aren't all that bad. I'd ship PVA quickly, maybe for Dummett if you want budget

Kept PVA as I wanted to fit in the likes of Aguero, so my transfers were used up there.

If Chadli is out injured, there are not too many replacements at his price.

Sakho ---> Austin,Ings could be done if Sakho is ruled out.

    Krul McCarthy
    Baines Alderweireld chambers Naylor dummett
    Siggy downing ADM fab hazard
    Kun pelle Perez

Would love to just do Pelle to bony but am 0.1m short

    B) pelle/KUN to Rooney/bony
    c) pelle/fab to Rooney/midfielder under 7.4m
    D) pelle/Alderweireld to bony/caulker
    e) Costa in for pelle and fab out for someone under 6.5m
    F) anything else!!

I wouldn't have Costa tbh, but rather Aguero.

Tough situation you're in i think... lots of money in szesnzny, mannone, and the defense.

You can't really fit Aguero in, so go with Austin-Ings (5.9 and 5.7= 11.6), leaving 12.7... of which I would get Hazard or Yaya(in great form right now), and use the rest to do Costa>Aguero or Bertrand>Baines

Hey guys, new to the site and all but thought I´d ask for some advice.
    Krul Lloris
    Clyne,Dummet,Baines, Naylor, Wisdom
    Sanchez, fab, wanyama, chadli, downing
    Aguero, Pelle, Sakho.

Obviously this GW was terrible, so trying to do smith useful with my 2ft. Basically id like to get costa in for a -4.
My first thought was Lloris, pelle, sakho --> 4m goalie, costa, kane
    or --> Foster, costa, zamora.

Does any of these trades make sense to you? Waiting a little while for injuries etc to be sorted. Otherwise baines might be an idea for transfer.

Ah sorry hadn't seen your post. Thanks for commenting on mine, and good that you pointed it out!

Fabulous team mate, and even better with 2ft's and 2.5itb.

        - Are you confident with only Krul? Maybe upgrade elliott to foster to have some rotation?
        - Chambers out after gw13, depending on your budget, perhaps caulker, janmaat, or azpi...
Great midfield.. you should definitely get Hazard in though, or upgrade Wanyama - you don't want to be left with Wanyama playing tough fixtures when Kane gets dropped or Costa gets rotated.

Costa, Fab YC's... Kane rotation, Wanyama fixtures... try to address this.

          Thanks for replying Rick.

My plan was to do Tadic > Haz or ADM but that would only leave me with 0.1 or 0.2 left in the bank. So it would be hard to upgrade elsewhere.

Before the weekend, I've been thinking of doing this all week:

          Kane > Austin
          Tadic > ADM
          Chambers > Yun

          Not so sure now

If you've already got Kane you might as well stick with him until he gets dropped. He's not a bad choice, with many transferring him in this week even.

I think you'll be happiest with Tadic>Hazard, based on stats and projected points.

No need to get rid of Chambers yet. Koscielny is back and Chambers has as good a chance at a CS as Yun this GW (wba compared with LEI)

Need an expert opinion - happy to analyze your team if you help me 🙂

    Begovic Krul
    Baines Clyne Chambers Naylor Wisdom
    Sanchez Siggy Oscar Downing Tadic
    Aguero Pelle Austin
    0FT, 2.1itb

I want to trade Chambers for another defender in GW14 or GW15, and Downing might become an issue that might linger too. I also need to drop Tadic for Hazard (0.3 short atm), so Pelle>Ings with 2.0 left itb makes sense, with that 2.0 going towards Chambers>6.0+ defender in GW14.

-8 sounds like a lot, but Hazard(c) and Ings could easily repay that over 3 GW's, and I'd be free to trim the edges of my team.

I had a solid plan in place, based around Tadic>Siggy, but with Sterling dropping in price and playing poorly I had to get rid of him instead first, hence why I'm left with 0FT's now!

Good plan, but can u just get away with Tadic > Haz this week? Not a fan of -8

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm 0.3 short of just Tadic>Hazard (and 0.2 short of Tadic>ADM).

With Ings playing AVL next it also makes sense to get him in now. Pelle hasn't had a shot on target in 4 GW's!

          True...

If you feel that the points hit will repay back in the next few then go for it... Good transfers imo, barring the hits.

Cheers. Based on Pelle having 0 shots on target in the last 4 Gw's against STO hul LEI avl, i think its safe to say Ings should score more than him. He's basically another version of Balotelli with those stats, except he's playing for a team that functions better atm as a whole.

Hazard as captain is pretty likely to result in some nice returns too i think

          haha nice one mate.

I wouldn't skip Austin over Ings though, he's got better stats and QPR are more attacking that Burnley. I'm only getting Ings because I already have Austin 😉

        Sorry if I wasn't clear 🙂

        I've got 2.1 itb and 0FT.

Meaning that I'm 0.3 short of Tadic>Hazard, but I can do Pelle>Ings this week and then Tadic>Hazard next.

Robertson though... Diame coming back.. ben arfa, etc... when i look at Hull's options im just worrying about gametime. Besides, I can afford to keep my 8 forward strategy going if i have Ings-Austin-Aguero up top.

He was keeping Robertson out before Diame got injured. All the other options are luxury players while Brady brings great work rate. He'll play, I assure you.

And you'll regret going that light up top. Big time.

                Consider this though:

                A) Terry Hazard Ings
                B) Caulker Chadli Costa/Rooney

I'd much rather have A, and many agree with that. Hence why Aguero-Austin-Ings makes sense.

I also think its a very prudent move given that Costa could get rotated... probably less of an issue with Rooney though, but I don't trust United's attack atm, based on having 1 shot on target vs Arsenal and being pretty limp against Palace at home as well..

    Guzan
    Ivanovic, Lovren, Naylor
    Hazard, Siggy, Sanchez, Chadli
    Aguero, Costa(C), Austin

    Yun, Boyd, Dummett

Saving a transfer. Do you think I have the line up and bench order correct? Quite embarrassed to own Lovren but have to give him a run out over these next few games. Play Yun or Taylor? Boyd first or second on bench?

It's a tricky one between those two. I kind of bought Naylor because of these nice home fixtures so it seems a shame to bench him... but Yun does have a better fixture.

I kept thinking to myself that i had to keep Lovren for the good run but the final straw was him going from 9 points to 1 point in the last 2 minutes at QPR... while my intended replacement (Baines) hit 15 vs Villa. Needless to say my patience with Lovren ran out at around GW8 or 9

the stats don't suggest that he will...

I was very close to doing a hit for Lovren>Baines that week too, but ended up doing it the following week instead... Not complaining though, as the 2 trasnfers i did that week (Costa>Aguero and Lovren>Baines) have worked wonders for me since.

    Clyne - Baines - Moore - Wisdom - Chambers
    Sanchez - Fabregas - Chadli - Tadic - Boyd
    Pelle - Welbeck - Aguero

    1.2M itb,2FT

Im thinking Tadic, Welbeck, Pelle -> Sigurdsson/Downing, Costa, Berahino/Sakho/Austin/Kane for -4. Next week I can work on the defence with 0.8itb. Any other transfer plan are more than welcome!!

Only things bothering me: The seriousness of the injury to Chadli and Baines. Should i get them out?

    Aguero Rooney Berahino

Yeah not very many options in the cheap mids, may even be worth just doing Bert/Clyne > Yun and not taking the hit (Boyd can come in).

No idea about which to ship. Maybe based on who you will lose more value in? Bertrand has maybe the slightly better stats but even that's not black and white.
