After taking a look at those clubs with kind upcoming schedules yesterday evening, we turn our attentions to those with some tough fixtures to follow. Trouble could be brewing for the Tyne-Wear duo, whilst the Saints’ recent rise to prominence is set to be put to the test.

Sunderland

“frisking

Unbeaten in their last three, the Black Cats will need to retain that recent resilience to navigate a tricky fixture list. Gus Poyet’s side entertain Chelsea, Man City and West Ham in the next four – the three highest scoring away sides in the league so far.

With a trip to Liverpool also to consider in the next four, the Wearsiders will surely remain off Fantasy radars for now. At the back, Costel Pantilimon has earned 14 points in three starts since taking over from Vito Mannone and will at least offer save point potential, whilst Steven Fletcher faces a tough task to continue the form which has brought four goals and an assist in his last six appearances.

Stoke

“frisking

Last weekend’s home defeat to Burnley is hardly ideal preparation for what’s to follow. With his injury-hit defence conceding in each of the last six and key winger Victor Moses out for up to eight weeks, Mark Hughes has his work cut out to steer Stoke up the table over the next few matches.

The Potters will be looking for Bojan to maintain the form that has earned him a goal, assist and four bonus points in the last two matches, but with showdowns against Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in the next six Gameweeks alone, Hughes is afforded little reason for festive cheer right now.

Newcastle

“frisking

The league’s form side have now won five on the spin and collected four clean sheets over that period but whether they can prevail over an evil fixture schedule is perhaps debatable.

Alan Pardew’s side travel to West Ham, Arsenal and United in the next six, and with Chelsea paying visit, in addition to a derby showdown with Sunderland, it leaves only a Gameweek 14 trip to Burnley looking full of promise. Budget option Paul Dummett and raiding right-back Daryl Janmaat may struggle to serve up the defensive returns, whilst further up the field, the cut-price duo Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez could have their current form curtailed.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Sitting second in the table after 13 rounds of fixtures, Ronald Koeman’s side now present us with the classic case of form against fixtures. A defence that has conceded a single goal in their last five now squares up to City, Arsenal, United and Everton in the next five – Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League game but their owners may find returns slowing over this period, with many looking for a way out. The erratic Dusan Tadic, with eight blanks in 12 appearances, and the off-form Graziano Pelle – without a shot on target in the last four and just one booking shy of a ban – may well be set for an exodus as the returns dry up.

Hull
The short-term schedule is unrelenting on Steve Bruce’s out-of-sorts side, with Hull travelling to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks. With just one goal and a single point to their name over the last four, the Tigers will need to dig deep to get anything from those matches – Bruce will be hoping the fit-again pair Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson can make a difference at both ends of the pitch but the KC pickings look slim to none right now.

Crystal Palace
Victories against the likes of Everton and Liverpool show that, on their day, Neil Warnock’s side can mix it with the best of them. Palace will need to carry on from the form that swept aside the Reds last Sunday, though, as they now face trips to Swansea, Spurs and City, in addition to the visit of Southampton over the next six. Home encounters with Villa and Stoke still look promising for key man Yannick Bolasie, whilst Mile Jedinak’s dead-ball duties continue to keep the Eagles skipper in contention as a valid budget option.

What's the status of Baines and Downing?

Baines: Left out of Everton’s squad for the Europa League game - nothing beyond that

Downing: "could return for Saturday’s home match against Newcastle" ... although WestHam are trying to make an FA claim over the injury so it might be more serious

    Hi people.

I'm thinking of doing Clyne, Moore, Downing > Azpi, Hutton, Siggy.

    It would leave me with:

    Foster (Gilks)
    Azpi, Chambers, Naylor (Hutton, Duff)
    Sanchez, Cesc, Siggy, ADM (Boyd)
    Costa, Aguero, Austin

Make sense? Or should I do something else?

Surely all three aren't necessary. If Downing's fit I'd probably use that Clyne money to bring in Bony instead.

Seems like good transfers bit not worth the hits.

Maybe just clyne to Hutton, and Downing to siggy

Think ye're right, there's no need for all three transfers.

I'll probably just bring in Hutton and see how all of Austin, Bony, Downing, Siggy, Clyne and Azpi get on this GW before changing anything else.

What would you do to this team if you had 2FT's?

    Forster, McCarthy
    Jags, Clyne, Chambers, Duff, NTaylor
    ADM, Downing, Siggy, Sanchez, Boyd
    Costa, Aguero, Pelle

Im thinking my mids/attack are ok for now, so thinking Forster --> Fabianski this week, then can use 2 FT's next week to bring in a CHE defender and alter a MID/Pelle?

        I hate owning that bench!

        And I might do:

        Baines>Taylor
        Downing>Hazard

and bank 0.5M depending on the news! Baines for Hull might tempt me. He has to play this week though.

I reckon it's 75/25 but he might get rested as a precaution ... but to be honest you'll be kicking yourself for the rest of the season if you sell Baines - he'll definitely get the odd attacking returns wher'as Swansea's fixtures dry up

    Hypothetically Would you rather have
    A) a team you are not happy with riddled with injury doubts
    B) a team that's a little bit better but you are still not happy with it (-4)
    C) a team that you are reasonably happy with but still has some issues (-8)
    D) your perfect team for this week at least but WC played

        So my question is this:

If Person X agreed to make a trade with me, that was a follow-on from another trade that I made - a trade which I wouldn't have agreed to make without X having confirmed multiple times that the 2nd trade was agreed, then its rather dickish of Person X to pull out of the trade later right?

I actually find the draft league just as interesting, if not more so, than fpl tbh. Its much more real-life in the sense that every player is only owned by one person, and I enjoy not having the "template" follow you around

Still sounds too dramatic regarding transfers during the season. The admin should have been informed regarding the 2 transfers or else the game is bound to have these incidents.

                11 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, in hindsight I probably should have informed the admin. It was a bit of a special scenario though, as normally trades would only be officially agreed through the system, whereas here I wanted to line up a trade before I had made another one, so couldn't offer the 2nd trade until the 1st one had cleared.

I also thought I could trust people more. Most (probably 90%) of people in the draft league are actually really good and honest people, but unfortunately i found the one rotten apple to trade with.

            • 11 Years
            11 years, 7 months ago

The first trade was with somebody else, but the 2nd one was agreed with the knowledge that it would only get offered once the 1st one had processed. I explicitly told him that i would only accept the 1st trade if he accepted the 2nd one (as I didn't want one of the players i received from the 1st trade, only to trade for the other player).

Pisses me off to no end. Such a hypocritical arsehole!

                • 11 Years
                11 years, 7 months ago

I've told HOH about it in detail, but he doesn't want to get involved with forcing people to trade based on trade agreements made in conversations in the chat, as that would open up some murky areas for him as administrator. I can sort of understand that, but I still feel like people should be held accountable somehow.

Here's a couple of excerpts from conversation history btw:

11/14 Rick - Ok, I'll get back to you once I've accepted that other one(might take afew days to process it). Please don't burn me as I'm only accepting that one to send a deal your way next! 🙂
                11/14 Person X - barring a serious injury to Player A or Player B I won't

11/17 Rick - Trading takes so much patience and time, its so frustrating at times.
11/17 Rick - I've had a couple of deals agreed, but then last-minute guys pull out. Argh! 🙂
11/17 Person X - haha ye that seems a bit harsh, people should stick to their word

                Hypocrite much? 😯

That's well dickish mate presuming the second trade was part of the original deal eg. I give you sanchez and Berahino for Costa and Downing. I'd be well pissed if I gave you Sanchez for Downing and you then didnt give me costa.

The first trade was with somebody else, with one of the two players I received in that trade getting traded in Trade 2. I wouldn't have agreed to Trade 1 without Trade 2 being lined up and agreed 100% - even requesting that he not burn me, with him saying that "people should stick to their word". But now that Trade 1 has processed the 2nd guy is pulling out of the trade, leaving me with a player I didn't want and with Def's with poor fixtures now. Royally shafted me really.

Yeah, I wanted to trade up by leveraging a player I didn't want to get one I do want who is much better than the ones I originally had. It was all so perfect, until this fecker decided to kick me in the nuts.

Not going to read 46 comments before I reply! Was this part 2 of the Lamela deal? Tough call. If one of the players in this second part got injured or benched I could see why the person would be reluctant, but I would suggest that in the future you get it in writing and cleared with HoH before starting the sequence? Understand your frustration

          1. rickardinho
            • 11 Years
            11 years, 7 months ago

Yeah it was part 2 of the deal for Lamela. I think I might actually have mentioned to you that I was going to trade Lamela for someone else I had lined up.

The thing is that I DID get it in writing (in the conversation history), and even made several explicit confirmations that he was happy to make the trade pending ratification of the 1st one. I didn't think it was necessary to involve HOH at that stage as I thought that people were generally very honest and forthright, but apparently I was wrong about one person!

We agreed that as long as no player got injured the trade was accepted, but since no relevant player has been injured its irrelevant.

haha, i was gonna do Lovren>Baines for a hit in the gw Baines played Villa, but resisted since Lovren had an easy game vs qpr....

Result: Lovren sitting on 9 points with 2 mins left concedes twice in stoppage time to drop to 1, while Baines gets 15.

I promptly did Lovren>Baines(-4) the following GW. Best trade of my season, but a week to late.

Posted this a couple times this week, ehh why not 😛

    What to do?

    Foster/Gilks
    Baines/Dummett/Duff/Cameron/Clyne
    ADM/Sanchez/Downing/Siggy/Marney
    Bony/Aguero/Costa

    1 FT. 0.1 ITB

Not liking the look of Villa's defence to be fair.

They have good fixtures and there's not much else you can afford that's better

Fair enough, but I feel that's a waste of a transfer, I would much rather go into next GW with 2 FT's. Remember, we are talking about the worst defence in the league. But I can honestly say Stoke aren't much better 😛

I'm selling Bego for either Guzan or Heaton. Anything is better then Stoke atm

If Downing and Baines are injured I would do:

      Baines>Wisdom
      Clyne>Hutton
      Downing>Hazard

        If Baines out ...

        Boyd -> Di Maria 😀
        Baines -> 4.9m DF

        Still dunno who to get.

Big big 'if ' but if Downing and Baines both ruled out , how about a -4 Baines to Naylor and Downing to Oscar, having only Costa Chelsea cover over this run may hurt you

McCarthy's flag removed. Well at least that's somewhat of a plus for my team 😆

Wishful thinking I think. But an idea nonetheless. I think I'll ship Forster

I'd actually kinda of does. Im not sure why though. Cos the colour pattern on my work computer is a bit off. Has Baines or a few others gone from dark yellow to light yelllow?

think they were always on light yellow and still are, although in reality probably should be dark yellow - I really shouldn't care about such trivial things 🙂

Well he was on the bench last week anyways. So nothing really has changed but the colour of his flag on fpl

I know but it can be important over the festive season especially if Green throws in a clanger.
