So last week’s armband was misplaced although, having dropped just over 500 places in rank, I have to consider that I got away with it.

While the choice between Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa will be made that bit easier by home and away rotation from Gameweek 14, it’s still a quandary ahead of 11.30 for this week. Right now, it looks like I’m going to refuse to make it and ignore both.

With two free transfers banked, I’ve spent the week hopelessly deliberating options. I’ve concluded that, while arming myself with a pair of transfers increases the possibilities, it also intensifies the selection headache and makes decisions all the more difficult.

I had hoped that the injuries that blighted Gameweek 12, leaving me with just ten men, would present a solution. That’s failed to materialise: as it stands, all four of Leighton Baines, Stewart Downing, Nacer Chadli and Danny Welbeck have a chance of pitch time, so there was no obvious route to take.

Welbeck has grown to become a major concern for me – few us of can afford to carry a passenger in the striker slot, and while Alexis Sanchez has papered over the cracks, both for my team and Arsene Wenger’s, there’s no question that Welbeck’s goal output and the threat from Olivier Giroud (no, really) meant he had to go. That decision was made early enough.

Showing Dusan Tadic the door was the other obvious option. Unconvincing at Villa until he moved up behind Graziano Pelle, his performance on Monday night offered me little reason to keep faith. I’d talked about Danny Ings and Eden Hazard in for Welbek and Tadic for a fortnight – that was a clear option but, in the end, I decided against it.

Hazard has struggled to find goals away from home, and with Costa up front, I’ve perhaps enough Chelsea attacking cover for the banana skin trip to Sunderland. As for Ings, I certainly like him against Villa but I’m unconvinced that Burnley can maintain momentum and, with George Boyd as my fifth midfielder, the thought of being reliant on a Claret every week was spooking me.

Then there was the fact that I was left with ten men last weekend, and with a midweek Gameweek and a busy Christmas period looming, I would need a healthy bench. So it was time to rid myself of Leicester’s Liam Moore, grabbing a short-term budget option in Swansea’s Kyle Bartley and making room for the muscular Wilfried Bony to barge his way between Costa and Aguero.

I now have Bartley, Calum Chambers and Boyd to come from my bench to repair any of those yellow flags this weekend and I should have 14 active players to handle the midweek rotation threat. That feels a lot better.

Bony was always my prime target. Incredibly consistent with a goal every other game in the Premier League, I can see him bettering that against Palace and QPR over the next two at the Liberty. Even after these quick-fire Gameweeks, Bony’s fixtures may make it difficult for me to show him the door. He’ll depart in January for the African Nations Cup but I reckon he’ll have four or five more goals by then and I’ll have made a few quid.

Do I fancy him enough to back him with the armband? That’s another call. I certainly think that Bony, Aguero and Costa are all likely to return goals in the Gameweek. Having Bony (along with holding Tadic) is a differential in itself so maybe seeking to double his points is unnecessary.

Having said that, I do wonder how big a risk it is to look beyond Aguero and Costa and whether either will explode given their fixtures at Southampton and Sunderland – I’m expecting a goal apiece at best (bookmark this).

Right now, the armband is on Bony. Many around me will be backing Gylfi Sigurdsson as Swansea cover and sticking with Costa or Aguero – I’m about to roll the dice this week and hope that, if Bony lets me down against Palace, he’ll make up the difference for me in midweek.

I never like to see Neil Warnock smiling on a Saturday evening – if that’s the case tonight, it’s a good bet that I’ll be drowning in Gameweek misery.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    *Revised Post

    (A) Oscar + Dummett in for Tadic + Bardsley?

    OR

    (B) Oscar + Azpi + Yun in for Tadic + Clyne + Bardsley for -4 hit??

Clyne out is debatable, but they have a couple of tough fixtures, and it allows me to bring in Chelsea defense?

Captaincy seems pretty tight this gameweek, I doubt there'll be a lot in it between the main options as all seem pretty viable and likely to at least grab some form of attacking points.

Having said that, i'm going for Sánchez.

The early captain rule is a myth, i've captained 4 players in the early game so far this season, and only one has blanked(Agüero vs whu), the whole concept of being behind and damage limitation is a bit too negative around these parts.

And Sánchez, if Arsenal score, he'll be involved.
He's been involved in 7 of Arsenal's last 9 Premier League goals, mainly scoring them. Alexis should be involved again, even if Arsenal only muster a goal or two, it's highly unlikely that Sánchez won't be involved.
And also, when there's goals for Sánchez, there's bonus, he picked up all three bonus points in the four games prior to Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford.

    The case against....

Diego Costa - Whilst Sunderland away looks like a very lucrative prospect, Chelsea away from home are yet to really kick on from an attacking point of view(with the exclusion of the Everton game).
Sunderland aren't that bad defensively at home, United only mustered 1, Arsenal just 2(both from defensive errors), Everton just 1 from a Baines penalty, so with the exclusion of *that* game at St Mary's, Sunderland aren't too shabby.
Ok, Costa will probably grab a goal, but that's it, he's only picked up bonus when he's scored more than once(apart from 1 BP vs bur) and with no assists so far this season, there's not much potential there either.
There's also the fitness factor, Jose will have one eye on the game against Spurs in midweek, meaning Costa's likely withdrawal(for Mikel 😉 ) should Chelsea be 1 or 2 up with 30/20 minutes to go.

Sergio Agüero - My main issue with the Argentinian is the rest of the City side, creativity is non-existent, no Silva is clearly having a huge impact, so Agüero is really having to create goals for himself.
Southampton are also really tight at home, and there's no doubt Koeman will set up a little more defensively too, with City being Southampton's first real test of the season. The Saint's have conceded once at home, and that was to a stunner from Charlie Austin, it may take something similar to breach Forster's goal tomorrow.
But once again, i'll admit Agüero is a likely scorer, coming off the back of a hat-trick against Bayern Munich, who had 10-men for a majority of the game, his confidence must be sky high ahead of City's trip to the South Coast. However, I can't see him exploding like he has done, Southampton are too good a side to let that happen, in my opinion.

Ángel Di María - The other Argentinian has looked a bit wayward in the last few weeks, much like his 1-on-1 finish against young Damián Marinez last Saturday. The threat is still there, and the performances, but the points don't seem to follow suit.
Many will be hoping that will not be the case against Hull, but I can see it that way. Steve Bruce is no mug, he won't set up like Harry Redknapp's side did and get smashed 4-0, he'll make the game as tight as possible, as West Ham and Palace have done, it'll be 1 or 2 maximum for United, unfortunately, but Di María may be involved.
He's a good option, but not compared to Sánchez for me, he's integral to Arsenal's attack, whereas Di María has Rooney, van Persie and potentially the returning Radamel Falcao to take some of the limelight away from him.

    Enjoy my gibberish.

Agree with most of it but Sanchez actually wasn't that involved midweek, his first touch was after 15mins! And with Kun you are pretty much saying the Saints are better than Bayern by saying that they won't let Kun explode…..I don't think that any defence in the world can stop him atm and anyway Bayern's defence is a lot better than Saints…..Villa scored against Saints. But I do think that Sanchez is a good shout, but my gut says Kun.

Matic is essential. There is CDM for Chelsea if Matic ( Mikel is also on Matic side) don't start.
But for Hazard he can be rested for two tough games next week.
