[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A 2-0 win over QPR handed Swansea a sixth clean sheet of the season but Tuesday evening’s triumph came at a cost for Garry Monk’s side as ever-present Neil Taylor toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. After earning his fifth caution of the campaign, the left-back is one of four players who are set to serve a one-match ban this weekend as he sits on the sidelines for the Welsh club’s trip to West Ham.

Chelsea are once again deprived of a first-team regular due to suspension ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Newcastle. This time round Jose Mourinho needs to make do without Nemanja Matic after the midfield enforcer earned a fifth yellow in last night’s home win over Tottenham.

Andi Weimann and Wes Morgan will both miss Villa’s home clash against Leicester. The former earned his fifth yellow in midweek, while the latter received his marching orders against Liverpool. Morgan’s absence offering Liam Moore the chances of a rare start for the visitors but, up against Christian Benteke, he may well struggle to bring in the points as Nigel Pearson’s side attempt to improve upon a run of one clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

Taking stock of the Tightrope after the midweek matches, we now have 22 players sitting just one caution away from a ban. Essentially, one more yellow card in the next five Gameweeks (until the extension kicks in on January 1) for any of them will trigger an automatic one-match suspension. From a Fantasy perspective, Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 51% of sides) is the most high profile, though owners of the likes of Graziano Pelle, Vincent Kompany, Morgan Schneiderlin, Daryl Janmaat and Ryan Shawcross also have cause for concern.

Stoke, Southampton and Hull are most affected here – each of those sides have a trio of players teetering on the Tightrope as we head towards Gameweek 15.

As Fantasy managers are more than aware, Diego Costa is back for Chelsea after sitting out last night’s clash against Spurs. There’s no doubt his disciplinary record on the road is a worry, though – having been booked in all five away appearances, he’ll need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of facing another suspension later in the season.

Newcastle welcome back a couple of midfielders for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko looking set to return to first-team duties. City’s defensive worries also ease a little as Everton roll up to the Etihad. With Vincent Kompany expected to remain on the sidelines, Eliaquim Mangala is available once again, after sitting out Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Gaston Ramirez and Claudio Yacob will serve the last of three-match bans this weekend as Hull welcome West Brom to the KC.

    Away matches this season

    Fabregas 1 goal 4 assists
    Hazard 0 goals 1 assist

    Gulps.
Maybe I should wait a week then.

I think Hazard will consistently outscore Fabregas now. Fabregas is phenomenal, but I'm not sure he can sustain his early season level of assists.

and they are group winners in ucl and then there is also league cup match week after ucl, so I don't think he will be rested before christmas.
Neither will Fab, but he can get suspended.

I saw a stat recently which said around 5% of goals in the Prem so far have been penalties.

That's not a lot, especially when the other side of the coin is that the player could miss. Not sure it's worth taking into account too much when deciding on a player. Thoughts?

I more look at it as just a small plus if they are on pens but doesn't factor Into my choices too much

Is this a historical stat or just this season?

If it's just this year then an obligatory *lol sample size*.

If it's historically then I'd say it wouldn't change my view much.
We do like that a player has that responsibility but, it's obviously just one of the many factors to consider when deciding who to field in our squads.

It's quite funny to see the difference in the overall opinion of Costa now vs Costa a few months back.

Back then you were mad if you didn't have him and would get laughed at. Now it's there's better value elsewhere.

    1. Doolittle
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

That's the nature of the game, it happens with every player. Seen quite a lot questioning Baines today, whereas almost everyone said he was essential a couple of weeks ago.

I maintain that no player is truly essential (Aguero is close to it at the moment); the fickle nature of the FPL player is why I laugh when the same people bang on about "season keepers".

      1. HuttonDressedasLahm

Interesting. Different ways to skin a cat; I wouldn't dream of ditching Aguero, but if you can compensate elsewhere with the funds saved then he's not 100% essential.

Exactly even the guys who run this site fall into that trap. Then when enough people say "essential" or "season keeper" it puts doubt in your mind.

Like when Chris Tarrant used to say "hmmm are you sure?" on who wants to be a millionaire...

Have both fab and hazard, toying with idea of losing fab. He's on 4 yellows and also got subbed last night.
Perhaps they will try be cautious with him till end of year to avoid a ban or knowing Mourinhos track record of strategic yellows, he will tell him to get a yellow at Newcastle, missing hull who they can beat without him.

    Foster Mannone
    Baines Clyne Chambers Hutton Yun
    Sanchez Hazard Siggy Downing Boyd
    Aguero Rooney Austin

    1 FT, 1.9 itb

Would like to get Azpi in for Clyne but Mannone is haemorrhaging team value.

    So should I do:
    Clyne -> Azpi or
    Mannone -> Elliot

Did anyone read Willis's post last night? Absolutely stupid. Probably the worst I've seen on here. He first compared aguero to Suarez and not in terms of quality but in regards to their antics. He says coz kun is worse than Suarez coz he had committed nasty tackles. And when someone responded by saying kun is a humble bloke, he replied..wait for it A HUMBLE PLAYER WOULDN'T CELEBRATE GOALS THAT EXTRAVAGANTLY. There's a limit of being sore about not captaining aguero.

Kun or Austin as captain next game? City often struggle against Everton but does anyone dare not captain aguero after destroying "the boogey team" Sunderland?

I will captain Aguero for the rest of the year. Most explosive player. Never want to miss a potential haul.

        This.

Austin's points are a differential anyway.
Armband should just stay on Aguero until he's injured or has a blank GW.

    A) Moore ➡ Hutton (LEI)
    B) Save FT & play Chambers (stk)

    B, right?

Yup, go with B. Moore should play this weekend as well in case you need him (hopefully you don't).,

Not necessarily, good week to bring in Hutton.
Would chambers be benched then this week?
We gotta be careful if Debbie returns you could end up with 2 non playing def.

I have Moore and I'm considering Moore to Hutton too.

Villa more likely to keep clean sheet than Leicester.

    Fabianski, Jakupovic,
    Baines, Bertrand, Yun, Wisdom, Chambers,
    Canchez, Hazard, Downing, Milner, Boyd
    Costa, Aguero, Austin

I've got 1FT and 0.7 in the bank. Priority is probably to get rid of Milner as despite the assists, he ain't starting.
    Should I
    a) save for this week, or
    b) take a hit and do Bertrand and Milner -} Hutton and Siggy?

I think because you could play Boyd this week quite easily, you could maybe bench Milner and then have the luxury of two transfers?

    Helpful Question for all

    Which is better ???

    A- Naylor & Begovic > Hutton & Fabianski

    B- Begovic & Clyne > Guzan & Azpi

    C- Trippier & Clyne > Hutton & Azpi

    all for a hit

None for a hit. Just change one. Maybe bring in Hutton.

Krul (Foster for now) - Myhill
Clyne - Azpi - Baines (Wisdom, Yun)
Siggy - Sanchez - Fabregas - Downing (Boyd)
    Aguero - Costa - Kane

0.8 still in the bank .. Wisdom for Taylor (Swansea) ?? 🙂
