Here we go again, then. Less than 48 hours after Gameweek 18 got underway, the next round of fixtures is already thrust upon us – with only a handful of official news updates yesterday, though, we are mainly left to assess the lay of the land after Friday’s fixtures.

Phil Jagielka (hamstring) and Tim Howard (calf) are both likely to miss Everton’s trip to Newcastle after the pair was forced off with injuries in the home loss to Stoke. Kevin Mirallas and John Stones will be assessed after the duo sustained knocks in Friday’s 1-0 defeat. Mo Besic is hoping to shrug off an illness in time, though Steven Naismith is set to serve a one-match ban after topping off the Suspension Tightrope.

Olivier Giroud serves the first of a three-match ban as Arsenal head to West Ham this afternoon after his Boxing Day dismissal at home to QPR. Laurent Koscielny “has a chance†of making the match, though Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain “has an ever smaller chance†after missing Friday’s match with a groin problem.

Marouane Fellaini is ruled out of Man United’s trip to Spurs with a broken rib, whilst Adnan Januzaj is set miss out through illness. United are awaiting scans on the pelvic problem that forced Angel Di Maria out of Friday’s win over Newcastle. Judging by Ashley Young’s Instagram account, it seems Luke Shaw is back in the squad for the trip to White Hart Lane.

Gabby Agbonlahor will miss Aston Villa’s home encounter with Sunderland due to suspension. The forward earned his fifth yellow of the season away to Swansea and will serve a one-match ban.

Mark Hughes will check on Bojan (back) and Phil Bardsley (calf) ahead of the derby visit of West Brom, whilst Ryan Shawcross is expected to start despite picking up a head knock at Everton.

Fraizer Campbell is a doubt as managerless Palace travel to London neighbours QPR just 24 hours after the dismissal of Neil Warnock. The forward limped off just after the break in Friday’s home loss to Southampton.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is also unavailable after earning his fifth caution of the campaign in Gameweek 18, whilst Andy King has been ruled out with the knock that forced him off against Spurs.

Brad Jones is likely to miss Liverpool’s home clash with Swansea after being forced off with a thigh injury in the first-half of Friday’s win at Burnley. Simon Mignolet is set to return to the starting XI after being dropped due to poor form in recent weeks.

Stevan Jovetic and Vincent Kompany could return for City’s home clash with Burnley, according to reports. The former has stepped up his recovery from another hamstring problem and was an unused sub in Friday’s win at West Brom.

Andrew Robertson is a doubt for Hull due to a hamstring problem. James Chester misses the visit of Leicester through suspension, whilst Jake Livermore returns after serving a similar one-match ban.

Carl Jenkinson is unavailable to face parent club Arsenal at Upton Park later today, whilst Sam Allardyce still has doubts over James Tomkins’ ongoing hamstring problem.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this morning’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Too many short termists on here. Palace will keep things very tight versus QPR, City should run riot vs Burnley, YYT has been looking like he could score a brace for a while, and on pens and free kicks should be the captain this week.

    YYT (c)

Silva is definitely a good pick too. I would say Silva and YYT are a flip of a coin, maybe even a slight preference for YYT. I think Silva is being picked based on his recent score which is making alot of people potentially discount the better option in YYT.

I agree with this - I have neither YYT nor Silva so the choice isn't there for me but I would captain either over Austin. Would also captain Benteke over him.

Yes - remember Silva got 16 points that GW too.

Unlike many people here I'm not in any way convinced that I am 100% right, it's just a personal assessment and given I don't have the City players I haven't interrogated the stats as much as I would have done if I had an actual choice to make.

Fair enough - just seems to me you're being a bit dismissive of Austin when he's a valid pick.

Well he's my captain as well so I hope so!

Didn't mean to be dismissive, just offering an opinion - the weight of opinion here seems to be favouring Austin so I just agree with the perspective that you have the champions on fire against one of the worst teams in the league which brings their stars into contention.

Good luck this GW and I'll happily come and beg forgiveness if we get another Austin hat trick...

Haha nothing to beg forgiveness for! I misinterpreted - apologies.

My biggest concern with Silva is that he could well see 60 mins and come off at 2-0.

Of course, he could also be instrumental in a 5-0!

Yeh I was toying with Baines and Siggy to Dummet and Silva this week but pulled out as I agree and just don't think Silva is all that great a long-term option. Here's hoping he gets pulled at HT.

Surely the differential needs to be considered.

I'm relaxed as my main ML rival owns neither Silva nor Austin, so points from either would be healthy.

Captain choice between these two is a bit of a lottery in my view, so as I have said, we have to agree our criteria and then apply it.

Hi guys, I really need some help here.
I can do Baines > Zabaleta and Bony > Benteke, but that will leave me with one or none bench players.

Do both? One? Something completely different?

So I brought in jovetic. I totally don't expect him to start but think he can do major damage from the bench and will score well over the next two. In know it's a risk but te only other option in my mind was cisse and he's got questionable minutes as well.

I did A last night. Worried about Ivan being rotated and wanted Zabs.

Then have extra cash for upgrading chambers next week

I'm so tempted, but last time I was tempted away from Austin, he scored a hat-trick, but it's harder this time since he's playing Palace and I think we might actually sneak a result with #TheCaretaker at the realm. But if Austin fails then so does everyone, so that's my reasoning behind it at the moment, could well change in the next hour or so.

Do you think Silva+Benteke will outscore Costa+Kane by atleast 4 points over the next 2 GW ?

    Considering :

    Costa + Boyd + Baines -> Silva + Benteke + Skrtel for a (-8)

    Guzan
    Zaba Terry Skrtel
    Silva Yaya Haz Sanchez Downing
    Benteke Austin(c)

    Bench : Kane Caulker Wasi

Is it really a good thing that Warnock is gone though? I can see them doing better with Millen as caretaker.

Because a lot of people seem to be 🙂
      Also:
      Form
      Fixture
Keith Millens' results as caretaker of Palace have been mixed
Palace have kept 1 clean sheet in the past 3 months
