Three more players succumbed to the lure of the Suspension Tightrope after earning their fifth cautions of the campaign during the Gameweek 19 fixtures. West Ham defender James Tomkins will miss the New Year’s Day home clash with West Brom, Man City midfielder Fernando can also put his feet up on Thursday when the champions entertain Sunderland, whilst Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel also gets the day off as Leicester pay visit to Anfield.

This means that 34 players ultimately fell foul of the five-card Tightrope, which is now extended to 10 yellows on January 1. Those players previously on four cautions– including the likes of Yaya Toure and Robin van Persie – can now breathe a little easier, having successfully avoided a one-match ban. The 10-yellow Tightrope will now run until April 12 (inclusive), which currently takes in all of Gameweek 32.

Unfortunately for Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole, he’s already just one booking away from toppling off after collecting his ninth caution during the goalless draw at Villa. West Ham’s Winston Reid is just two away on eight cautions, followed by Diego Costa and Neil Taylor on seven apiece, with Chelsea midfield pair Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic joined by Southampton’s Graziano Pelle on six bookings.

A further four players joined the banned list at the weekend after receiving their marching orders. Morgan Schneiderlin is set to miss Southampton’s home match against Arsenal after earning a pair of yellows during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea and Hull’s Stephen Quinn sits out the KC encounter with Everton after being dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the weekend loss to Leicester.

The Foxes’ Paul Konchesky was also sent off in that 1-0 win and is unavailable for the New Year’s Day trip to Liverpool, whilst Fabian Delph is suspended for three matches after being dismissed for serious foul play in Aston Villa’s home draw with Sunderland. The midfielder will sit out the next two Gameweeks and also miss the FA Cup Third Round clash with Blackpool before returning to contention at home to Liverpool on January 17 – in the last couple of hours, the FA rejected Villa’s appeal over his weekend departure.

Earlier today, Papiss Cisse accepted a violent conduct charge for his elbow challenge on Seamus Coleman last Sunday. The Newcastle striker is banned for three matches with immediate effect but, bearing in mind he’s set to depart for the African Cup of Nations, could be sidelined until the start of February, depending on Senegal’s progress in the tournament.

Those eight players join previous incumbents Olivier Giroud and Tom Huddlestone on the festive naughty step. Giroud serves the second of a three-match suspension away to Southampton on Thursday before completing his ban in the FA Cup Third Round clash with Hull, meaning he will be available for Gameweek 21. The Tigers’ Tom Huddlestone will sit out the last of a four-match ban at home to Everton.

Jonjo Shelvey has since been charged for violent conduct for an altercation with Emre Can during Swansea’s loss to Liverpool last night, though Raheem Sterling seems likely to escape retrospective action for an incident in the same fixture, as it appears the match officials witnessed his set-to with Federico Fernandez.

Got Panti and Elliot so not looking great keeper-wise. Any change would mean a point hit and only? 0.4 in the bank...

Whatcha reckon? Play Panti and close my eyes??

If you aren't planning on using your WC very early taking a hit might work. Too bad you can't get anyone for Elliot, but Panti > Heaton or Panti > Adrian can easily pay off in the next 3 games. I've done the second one, but for Elliot and without a hit though.

Decided to bring in Adrian for the next 3 GWs. Now my team looks like this:

    --------------------------------Adrian
    -----------------Mangala - Hutton - Azpi
    Sanchez - Yaya - Sterling (C) - Fabs - Downing
    --------------------------Austin - Costa

    Bench: Panti, Kane, Naylor, Wisdom

Benteke at home to Crystal Palace.
On pens.. As long as Villa can keep 11 men on the pitch he ll have his few chances..

Also seems like madness to leave out Austin with his massive haul just a couple of weeks ago.
Id prefer to drop a midfielder.

Lucky returns vs Newcastle. Didn't see the game on the 28th though. It's only the same as having Yaya in my option. High price for a midfielder at the end of the day.

I think there are better value for money options up front, and it's better to save cash for the big hitters in MID.

He was immensely impressive against Newcastle and nothing lucky about it. He ran the show that day. Was good against spurs too but tailed off as did the rest of the team

His averages aren't overly impressive and it just seemed that everything stuck for him vs Newcastle.

3 shots on target, 2 chances created.
          2 goals, 1 assist?
I don't think those are maintainable conversions.

He costs around 5.5m over the base rate for a playing striker and there are defenders available creating a similar number of chances and having a fair few shots in good positions too.

Alex Song runs the show for WHU every week but I would never consider him a good fantasy prospect.

I reckon Kolorov will start the home game.
If enough folk disagree, I'll ship in Clichy for the week.
    What do you think?

I'm up to my neck in it. Had Kolorov for his 8 pts against palace then benched then captained. Obviously time to get rid, but can't pick a replacement, and now I'm finding myself flirting with Clichy. Who would you get for the next 3 or 4? (5.8 max, would love to spend less)

If they're taking in turns, yes. But if it's home for Kol and away for Clichy (like last year) then ...

Hi all, I got just the one lonely response to this elsewhere. Here are my front eight:

    Eriksen - Sánchez - Hazard - Sterling - Downing
    Austin - Kane - Costa

Who to captain? Who to bench?

    Thanks

      Captain Sterling.

Bench someone from the Spurs vs Chelsea game. Eriksen has the lowest ownership among the top 10k, with Costa having the highest. Bench Eriksen to protect your rank, or one of the others if you wish to take a risk.

      Ownership from top 10k:

      Costa - 75%
      Hazard - 66%
      Kane - 42%
      Eriksen - 20%

Where's this mad rush to get Sterling in come from?

Liverpool scored 4 goals last night and he didn't score/assist any of them + he's due a rest.

His stats are excellent. And just by watching him it's clear how massively involved he is. Seems inevitable that he will start scoring soon.

Chasing points is the name of the game, I´m more stunned by the sudden lovebombing about Lallana.

Would of had a hat trick vs United if it wasn't for a magnificent de Gea.

Is involved in everything that Liverpool do.

Is playing against a Leicester team at home who cannot defend (we scored 3 against them at the King Power Stadium when they had only lost one home game up to that point).

Hit the post last night, should have scored.

Great stats, form, fixtures and potential good differential this week for the armband.

An obvious replacement for Yaya or Eriksen.
