Our Friday afternoon regular comes around once again, as we take a look at the PlayON Player Price List ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON have now extended their deadline for submitting your teams so you can now tinker with your starting XI right up until the first kick-off each week – so tomorrow that’s right up to 12.45pm, when Sunderland welcome Liverpool to the Stadium of Light in the Gameweek’s early kick-off.

Goalkeeper – Mark Schwarzer
With Kasper Schmeichel still sidelined, Nigel Pearson has recently snapped up the veteran from Chelsea as Leicester look to cement their spot in the top-flight. Priced at just 5.5m, Schwarzer looks poised to take over from Ben Hamer in goal and his experience between the sticks could be vital as his new club play host to an Aston Villa side with a single strike in the last five Gameweeks. West Bromwich Albion’s Ben Foster is immediately drafted in as our favoured option between the posts. Available for just 6.3m in PlayON, the Baggies number one will be hoping to benefit from Tony Pulis’ installation to the Hawthorns hotseat and at home to fellow strugglers Hull, looks a solid shout to rack up his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Defender – Mathieu Debuchy
Whilst Arsenal’s failure to keep a clean sheet for six matches has dented their defensive appeal, it has, nonetheless, ensured the Frenchman remains favourably priced as Stoke roll up to the Emirates. Coming in at 7.2m, Debuchy faces a Potters attack with just three goals in their last four road trips and with the visitors’ top scorer Mame Biram Diouf having departed to the African Cup of Nations, a shut-out could be on the cards. The right-back’s strike against Liverpool in Gameweek 17 also serves a reminder of his points potential at both ends of the pitch. Three goals in four matches for a defender is an eye-catching feat and makes John Terry (8.7m) our essential pick in defence as Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. In spite of his recent attacking endeavours, the centre-half is even kinder on your budget than team-mates Branislav Ivanovic (9.5m) and Gary Cahill (8.8m) and is always likely to pick up extra points with the clearance and interception elements in PlayON’s scoring matrix. Given that the Blues haven’t conceded in the last four in front of their own fans, another clean sheet would be no surprise.

Midfielders – Stephane Sessegnon
The West Brom midfielder will be hoping to continue his recent fine form in Tony Pulis’ first match at the Hawthorns. Sessegnon has bagged four assists and fired six shots on target (each worth 200 points in PlayON) in the previous five Gameweeks and Pulis will be relying on his creativity and Saido Berahino’s threat up front to get the better of a Hull side that have conceded seven in their last four away matches. Managerless Newcastle make their way to Stamford Bridge on the back of a run that has seen them concede 13 goals in their last five matches. After losing their unbeaten run to the Magpies early last month, Jose Mourinho’s side will be out for revenge and we turn to Eden Hazard as the Magpies likely chief tormentor. The Belgian has served up three goals and as many assists in his last five outings and, at a price of 13.9m, is cheaper than team-mate Diego Costa (15m) up front.

Forwards – Ashley Barnes
We’re overlooking Danny Ings for Burnley’s home clash with QPR and instead turn to his in-form strike partner. Whilst the former has scored just once in the last seven league matches, Barnes has racked up three goals in five and priced at a mere 6.5m, he looks a real value option against a side that has failed to pick up a single pint on their travels so far. Man of the moment Harry Kane is impossible to ignore. After making the PlayON picks as our left-field striker on Boxing Day, the youngster is elevated to essential status for Tottenham’s trip to Crystal Palace. Coming in at just 7.7m, Kane has delivered five goals and three assists in his last five outings and looks in the mood to spoil Alan Pardew’s homecoming at Selhurst Park.

Draft league question: I've got four strikers and can only start three.
I'm starting Costa and Kane, but would you start Aguero or Benteke?

One of the burning questions on here seems to be which 3 Chelsea players to opt for. And basically is people trying to decide between Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Terry.

I have personally decided to overlook Terry because, with Fabregas + Hazard both playing, I will get 2 points if Chelsea keep a clean sheet meaning I only miss out on 2 of JTs points. I feel these 2ppg + any more goals he scores (~2/3 max) + bonus will be beaten by both Fab and Haz.

So the real question for me is Terry or Costa and I have opted for Costa. My gut is telling me he will score more points in the coming weeks BUT the main reason I have him is the fear of not having him.

Everyone who choose differently is right in their own arguments as to the three Chelsea players they've chosen and why. Only time will tell which three turns out to be the best combo.

I am fully prepared to have to swallow my pride and draft in ADM on my second wc.

Yeah, I've gone the full circle. I started of with Costa. Then sold him when he was "injured'...he scored 3 goals in 20 minutes and I had to buy him back while the game was still on. Then I sold him and double up with Hazard and Cesc. Then I sold Haz for Costa again. Looks like I'm selling Costa for Cesc now.

                  lol

Not following, u can have ADM with Terry and Costa, like i have in my team... My point is for Fab u have many covers at ur disposal, for Terry and Costa u dont...

                11 years, 2 months ago

I get it. But why get Terry or Costa because there are no "covers"? Bertrand is my Terry cover(for 1.5mless) and Cesc is my Costa cover(for 2 mill less).

I don't mind if Cesc is a midf and Costa is a striker. Points are all that matters.

                Haz+Cesc+ADM+Sanchez for me.

When u compare 2 mids with def+att, u must cover all 4 positions... Its not just Cesc+ADM vs. Terry+Costa... Its def+Cesc+ADM+att vs. Terry+mid+mid+Costa for same amount of money... I would also like it was like u said 2 vs 2 but its not... U must also consider template team, ownership percentage, form, number of covers etc...

For me, in this moment, its too risky going without Che def and Costa, that doesnt mean this will be the case in few weeks...

My decision comes down to the following (got Haz and Fab)

        (a) Kompany - Downing - Costa

        or

        (b) Terry - ADM - Austin (or another cheapy)

        - I fancy (a)

Terry - ADM - Kane maybe...?

What are people's thoughts on Arsenal attacking options now everybody is getting back to fitness. Welbeck Giroud Walcott Ozil Sanchez Cazorla Ramsey all vying for 4 or 5 positions. With champs league returning will rotation be a big issue

I think this Saturday will be Alexis-Giroud-Walcott in front of Cazorla.
It could be Chamberlain instead of Walcott, but given he covers more positions, there's a chance he either starts at CM, or starts on the bench covering both RW and CM.

Beyond that, yeah, you're right, rotation beckons.
Though someone else will get injured I'm sure!

You would think that Walcott would be ahead of Ozil and perhaps Ramsey to start given that they have only just started training while Walcott has had his minutes building up over the last two weeks.

Yeah, Ozil won't start after such a long injury. And I doubt Ramsey will either but I guess there's a chance. Think RW is between Ox and Walcott. 7 days recovery for Walcott seems like plenty.

Giroud could be rotated with Welbeck around the CL games, Sanchez might get the odd rest but should be nailed-on otherwise. It will be interesting to see how the rest fit in.

People wildcarding players in doesn't affect that players price (at least that's what I've been led to believe on here), so if you wildcarded super early and got, say, Aguero, then he scores a goal and the next week everyone wildcards and gets him in at the same time, you won't make any money on him at all? Is that right?

    Good Afternoon

Gearing up for the weekend and have one selection dilemma and that is whether to play Downing or Siggy. I would usually go for the home player but with Carrol back and the Hammers playing Downing in the hole, I am no longer so sure of benching him. Maybe should just flip the proverbial coin. Any good arguments around for or against benching Downing? Thanks
