Our Friday afternoon regular comes around once again, as we take a look at the PlayON Player Price List ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON have now extended their deadline for submitting your teams so you can now tinker with your starting XI right up until the first kick-off each week – so tomorrow that’s right up to 12.45pm, when Sunderland welcome Liverpool to the Stadium of Light in the Gameweek’s early kick-off.

Goalkeeper – Mark Schwarzer
With Kasper Schmeichel still sidelined, Nigel Pearson has recently snapped up the veteran from Chelsea as Leicester look to cement their spot in the top-flight. Priced at just 5.5m, Schwarzer looks poised to take over from Ben Hamer in goal and his experience between the sticks could be vital as his new club play host to an Aston Villa side with a single strike in the last five Gameweeks. West Bromwich Albion’s Ben Foster is immediately drafted in as our favoured option between the posts. Available for just 6.3m in PlayON, the Baggies number one will be hoping to benefit from Tony Pulis’ installation to the Hawthorns hotseat and at home to fellow strugglers Hull, looks a solid shout to rack up his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Defender – Mathieu Debuchy
Whilst Arsenal’s failure to keep a clean sheet for six matches has dented their defensive appeal, it has, nonetheless, ensured the Frenchman remains favourably priced as Stoke roll up to the Emirates. Coming in at 7.2m, Debuchy faces a Potters attack with just three goals in their last four road trips and with the visitors’ top scorer Mame Biram Diouf having departed to the African Cup of Nations, a shut-out could be on the cards. The right-back’s strike against Liverpool in Gameweek 17 also serves a reminder of his points potential at both ends of the pitch. Three goals in four matches for a defender is an eye-catching feat and makes John Terry (8.7m) our essential pick in defence as Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. In spite of his recent attacking endeavours, the centre-half is even kinder on your budget than team-mates Branislav Ivanovic (9.5m) and Gary Cahill (8.8m) and is always likely to pick up extra points with the clearance and interception elements in PlayON’s scoring matrix. Given that the Blues haven’t conceded in the last four in front of their own fans, another clean sheet would be no surprise.

Midfielders – Stephane Sessegnon
The West Brom midfielder will be hoping to continue his recent fine form in Tony Pulis’ first match at the Hawthorns. Sessegnon has bagged four assists and fired six shots on target (each worth 200 points in PlayON) in the previous five Gameweeks and Pulis will be relying on his creativity and Saido Berahino’s threat up front to get the better of a Hull side that have conceded seven in their last four away matches. Managerless Newcastle make their way to Stamford Bridge on the back of a run that has seen them concede 13 goals in their last five matches. After losing their unbeaten run to the Magpies early last month, Jose Mourinho’s side will be out for revenge and we turn to Eden Hazard as the Magpies likely chief tormentor. The Belgian has served up three goals and as many assists in his last five outings and, at a price of 13.9m, is cheaper than team-mate Diego Costa (15m) up front.

Forwards – Ashley Barnes
We’re overlooking Danny Ings for Burnley’s home clash with QPR and instead turn to his in-form strike partner. Whilst the former has scored just once in the last seven league matches, Barnes has racked up three goals in five and priced at a mere 6.5m, he looks a real value option against a side that has failed to pick up a single pint on their travels so far. Man of the moment Harry Kane is impossible to ignore. After making the PlayON picks as our left-field striker on Boxing Day, the youngster is elevated to essential status for Tottenham’s trip to Crystal Palace. Coming in at just 7.7m, Kane has delivered five goals and three assists in his last five outings and looks in the mood to spoil Alan Pardew’s homecoming at Selhurst Park.

    let's try again with better context. I'm looking at Bony + Demi > Kun + Trippier (-4)

    I know I should probably avoid a -4 during WC season but here's the thing..Bony and Demi are both deadweight. I know I will be getting Kun in eventually but currently have 3 City (other 2 being Silva and Zaba). with Burnley's fixtures and Trippier's attacking intent, this is a long-term hit, not 1 week and Kun is a mainstay anyways..

    thoughts?

    here's my full team for anyone curious:

          Not for a hit with WC so close. Everton look horrible so might keep a cleenie this gw too. Starting both Baines and Zaba myself and saving FT, mainly because I can't get another chelsea def and don't see much better options.

            despite Everton's form, City did concede 4 goals (I believe, maybe 5?) in last two fixtures to weaker clubs..

                like I said, Trippier..not sure I'd want an expensive Burnley defender for the long haul anyways..it's kinda perfect..will have Kun no matter what, Bony and Demi are dead, Trippier is gold for next few weeks..

                if I had Trippier already I would bench Zaba and play Trippier - Hutton - Terry

      He managed quite a lot of shots against Everton in the cup. I also own him and am confident he could get assists via Carroll vs Swansea, however he is likely to fade from 60 mins onwards as he has played pretty much every minute over Christmas.

          I own Baines now and that's what I'm thinking of doing. However I'm not sure if I'll be WC'ing FOR GW22 or FOR GW23.

          This is my current team. Not sure what to with the 2FT this week.

          Guzan | Myhill
          Cahill | Baines | Naylor | Wisdom | Dummett
          Hazard | Sanchez | Silva | Sigurdsson | Downing
          Costa | Kane | Austin

          2FT and 1.0m ITB

            Tempted to do one of the following:

            Baines --> Trippier
            Baines + Austin --> Trippier + Giroud
            Downing + Austin --> Boyd + Giroud (won't play Downing this week anyway)

            1. Whazza
              • 13 Years
              11 years, 2 months ago

              Baines -> Trippier was my thinking, but it's one attacking defender from a team that doesn't keep cleenies for another, so Baines' penalties edges it.

                • 13 Years
                11 years, 2 months ago

                In fact, Baines --> Trippier this week would potentially allow me to do:

                Silva + Costa --> ADM + Aguero using the 2 FT next week with 1.3m ITB as things stand! Hmmmm...

                    I'll mull this over. Would leave a horrible defence for that week without Baines' good fixture before WC-ing the following GW, but we'll see.

            • 13 Years
            11 years, 2 months ago

            Are you starting him this week? I don't know when I'll WC either, might as well get Kun next week with 2 FTs if he gets some minutes this gw.

              • 13 Years
              11 years, 2 months ago

              It's between Baines and Naylor for last starting slot and I'm currently on Baines this week.
              Would 100% start him next GW if I haven't WC-ed by then.

              I could do that, but the thing is with that WC team below, I'd be taking advantage of ADM's two good home fixtures and potential for So'ton CS and Giroud goals.

      Man City say he didn't sign a deal with New York FC, so he was never actually on loan from them. He will stay at City till the end of the season.

    While I'm not set on a wildcard I know who I do and don't want to keep from my current team.

    Looking at it I will have a completely new defence/GKs. Not one of my current team will remain.

    For my front 8 I'm only keeping 3 (Kane, Hazard, Sanchez). Big changes coming up....

    Is it justifiable to have Costa, Fab & Haz all in same team when there are a lot of viable midfield options coming back into contention? (ie Sterling, Walcott, Ozil, ADM, etc)

        Current attack:
        Sanchez, Fab, Haz, Silva (Wanyama)
        Costa, Kane, Rooney

        (2FT) Would you stick with that then for the time being? I really want to take in Sterling.

      Ability wise he's the best player to play for Newcastle since Ginola. However his mental strength makes Balotelli look like James Milner.

    1.Rooney, ADM, Cahill

    Best move here lads?

    A) Hart -> Heaton
    B) Zaba -> Debuchy
    C) Zaba -> Trippier

    All leave enough cash for Silva/Austin -> Boyd/Kun next week

    Bank 0.1m, 2FT

    Hart
    Terry, Zaba, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Eriksen
    Costa, Austin, Kane

    Elliot, Downing, Hutton, Chambers
    Bank 0.1m, 2 FT

    I'm missing something. Why the ferk are people selling Benteke this week? Leicester away, midlands derby... he's my VC!

    Villa just need to keep 11 men on the pitch this time.

      Yeah I decided not to jump on the Kane-train and stuck with Benteke. Villa don't score many though, so I can see why so many have done it.

          It is, but it's also quite difficult when 2 of your front 3 is Weimann and Agbonlahor. They're neither finishers or creators, just sort of run quite fast.
