With Gameweek 21 done and dusted, we dig deep into the data in our regular Sunday evening article. A trio of in-form midfielders at Arsenal, Man City and Swansea are amongst tonight’s topics, whilst we also assess United’s alarming attack, Burnley’s raiding right-back and the main men for West Brom and Palace as Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew kick-start their respective stints at the helm with a victory.

Thinking of going Cahill over Terry because Cahill has had his rest now. Would seem likely that Terry would also get a rest at some point. Anyone else going down this route?

I'm definitely thinking Terry will get rested sometime around CL fixtures, but I'm not convinced about Cahill still. Might be getting him on my WC plans to chop 0.2 off Terry - I can't afford my team now because of Azpi's drop.

cheers all. I do have the extra 0.2 so will go Terry for now. If there is an Azpil injury verdict I may go Luis but I doubt he will be out for long so perhaps not.

think luis is not playing because it would limit hazards role a bit. don't know how they are gonna deal but guess the system like now doesn't really work with a straight swap luis/azpil. maybe we'll see a backline of terry, zouma, cahill, ivan? I mean sometimes they play like a 3 at the back with ivan really advanced anyway.... short: think he'll play cahill again one way or another, but i could be wrong.

One of them has to go. I'm keeping Costa, he looks like he can get a hat trick in any game if he finishes the chances he gets. Could have had one against Newcastle

Will you press the WC button now to get:

    Krul
    Clyne - Terry - Clichy
    Silva - Hazard - Sanchez - Fabregas - ADM
    Aguero - Kane

Subs: McCathy - Barnes - Wasilewki - Baird

It really looks tempting but I am really sick of the "big names" as I have suffered enough with playing Zabaleta and Azpcuilleta and benching Kanes and Austin in the past three GWs.

  12. Enzo the Baker

Is there a case for benching Sanchez this week against Man City away ? This is only for those with a strong front 8 who would rather play Austin/Downing/Chadli/Siggy/Ings ahead of Alexis.

His last 4 away games have been against challenging opposition and yielded a total of just 10 pts :
    2 (sou), 1 (whu), 2 (liv) and 5 (sto).

In fact his last 5 hauls almost all were at home against bottom/lower mid table opposition :
    19 (STO), 10 (QPR), 9(NEW), 9(SOU), 16 (BUR),

So according to this we're expecting a blank against mci, and all other budget mids/forwards have fixtures at home + strong form.

These stats are all nice, but there are times when watching a match or 2 trumps all the stats. He's a beast, and city play open.

      1. Enzo the Baker
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

Agreed, but I don't think it's all about the stats. City won't give him space like qpr/new, I think they could shut him down with the Fernandi-twins. And Arsenal as a team are so much worse on the road.

You're not the only one who has said it, so I'm not going to claim I'm right. I have watched him a few times and had the same feeling as watching the likes of Bale, Walcott (at times) and Suarez.

          1. Enzo the Baker
            • 12 Years
            11 years, 2 months ago

Absolutely, he's fantastic to watch, explosive and can single-handedly drag his team over the line. I'm just trying to make an argument based on the past few games against quality opposition with a small sample size.

We're all waiting for his breakout away game, and it might even come this week. But I don't think benching him is as ridiculous a prospect as some people might suggest

I'm on wildcard and I thought there was. Then Debuchy's injury solved that problem. I had to rejig my team and got Boyd in so I didn't have such problems

      1. Enzo the Baker
        • 12 Years

Yeah, I think the majority is going to move back to a strong front 7 + Boyd. No headache that way

Nope, Man City's defense is terrible.

      - Former Hart + Zabaleta owner

Also, I don't like benching my heavy hitters. They are heavy hitters for a reason, can score against anyone

      1. Enzo the Baker
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

Haha yeah, I share your pain as a Zaba owner. But city lift their game against quality opposition at the etihad, and are buoyed by the return of kompany and aguero.

i bench siggy atm. he has che.

and he scored 9 against sou, don't remember that game but sou tends to leave least space for opponents between the lines (together with che).

think the explosive pressing he did yesterday with the other team coming behind/helping could trouble mci without yaya, but let's see if wenger lets them play like that again. if özil is coming in - byebye pressing...

Excellent arguments regarding pressing game and return of ozil. One more thing to note maybe, is that Sotn were missing Schneiderlin for that game where Arsenal won 1-0 (Sanchez 89').

Chambers has minor injury according to report. Also due to the on-form Bellerin and reckless-play of Chambers might keep the former ahead the latter.

Dunno. Was a genuine response, not having a go at him. He's always come across to me as someone who follows stats and simple logic nearly religiously, so was surprised that he was going completely against all the data we have for the first 21 weeks of the season.

Which option is better? (WC) 🙂

    A) Gardos+ Cameron + Boyd (5th mid)
    B) Bertrand + Wasil + Albrighton (5th mid)

    Team is:

    Foster, Panti
    Terry, GARDOS, Wisdom. PvA, CAMERON
    Adm, Hazard, Sanchez, Downing, BOYD
    Costa, Aguero, Kane

Any suggestions ffor a different approach. On my WC how does this look guys

    Foster, hamer,
    Terry, Berty,Baird , PVA, Wisdom
    Sanchez,ADM,Chadli,downing,boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Kane

    2.5itb
Not that keen on ADM after watching last nights game and reading on United stats.
hard to sell downing as i got him in real cheap and he's points been consistent
what should i do with the 2.5itb guys

What are people's thoughts on Cameron. He's currently sitting in my wc team since he's played a lot of games in a row. His versatility and fixtures make him a great option I think

I think he's decent pick - versatile in real life and definitely nailed on. But so far he is not contributing much. I'd rather have PVA at same price.

Thoughts on my conundrum above, mate? Should I stick or twist (WC)?

I do think B is better, but I suppose it depends on price rises as to whether you should just pull the trigger already. I was keen to get out some dead wood (like Zaba) so just hit the button

    Defence is currently
    Foster Myhill
    Terry berty fonte Baird pva

If I need an extra 0.2m for fabregas over adm then presumably I could do pva to wasi cos it's unlikely I will ever bench Terry berty and fonte in a three man back line?
