Bojan fires Stoke’s opener at Rochdale before limping off with a knee injury. Gus Poyet is optimistic on Adam Johnson’s chances of making the weekend clash with Burnley, Matthew Upson steps up his recovery for Leicester, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung and Yannick Bolasie are set to miss weekend domestic duties as their international commitments continue.

Bojan Concern for Potters

Mark Hughes made just a couple of changes to his XI for last night’s trip to Rochdale. Jack Butland was afforded a rare start between the sticks as Asmir Begovic was rested and fit-again skipper Ryan Shawcross returned to the heart of the back four at the expense of Marc Muniesa. This saw Marc Wilson continue at left-back as Erik Pieters missed out again, whilst Hughes retained Jon Walters as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1, with Bojan tucked in behind.

The latter struck a superb volleyed opener before being forced off with a knee problem just after the half-hour mark. Initial reports suggest he left the ground on crutches, though Hughes admitted he was uncertain of the prognosis:

“We will have to get him checked out because we aren’t too sure yet. I’m in the dark about the situation at the moment. He jarred his knee unfortunately and will have to go for a scan to assess what the problem was. Hopefully he will be ok, and it is nothing too serious. We can’t say anything else at the moment, it is just a case of getting him checked out.”

Victor Moses and Stephen Ireland (on as a replacement for Bojan) both bagged a goal and assist in the 4-1 win, with Walters also finding the net late on courtesy of a Marko Arnautovic assist.

The Scout Says: As Stoke’s momentum continues to build ahead of a superb upcoming schedule, Fantasy managers will be contemplating investment. There’s no doubt the 5.0-priced Bojan’s possible absence would be a bitter blow for Hughes’ side – the Spaniard has finally started to find his feet and notched in three of the last eight league matches, including a winner at Leicester last time out. With seven excellent fixtures in the next eight (QPR, new, avl, HUL, EVE, wba, CPL), the Potters are well placed to take advantage and the likes of Moses and Walters, at 5.2 apiece, offer tempting cut-price options for our five-man midfields. The latter may be ousted to the flank upon Mame Biram Diouf’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations, though, whilst fit-again Moses is starting to rediscover his form after serving up a goal and four assists in eight appearances earlier in the season before succumbing to a thigh injury.

Poyet Hopeful on Johnson

The Black Cats boss remains optimistic that Adam Johnson will recover from the calf complaint that forced him to miss the weekend cup draw against Fulham. Poyet was a little more uncertain over Wes Brown’s chances of making the Clarets clash, though:

“We need the players to be ready. We’ve got lot of games coming up and now we have a player who is suspended so someone will have to jump in. I would like to say that Adam Johnson will be back [for the Burnley game]; we’ll have to wait on Wes [Brown] and see what happens over the next few days.”

The Scout Says: With three goals in his last six league appearances, Johnson had started to pick up some Fantasy interest ahead of some excellent fixtures for the Wearsiders. Poyet’s men have three excellent home encounters in the next four (BUR, QPR, WBA) in addition to a trip to Swansea and it’s worth noting that the 6.0-priced midfielder was moved to a central berth behind Jermain Defoe and Steven Fletcher as Poyet rolled out a 3-5-2 away to Spurs last time out, with the Black Cats boss keen to hand him a roving role in the final third. Whilst Brown’s possible absence could hand Seb Coates a chance, the recent change of formation has seen Patrick van Aanholt (4.2) and Billy Jones (4.5) utilised as wing-backs, with the cut-price Dutchman the likeliest candidate for those looking past Costel Pantilimon’s 4.8 points per appearance between the posts.

Upson Steps Up Recovery

The centre-half made his third appearance since arriving at Leicester in the summer by turning out for the club’s reserves in a goalless draw with Tottenham yesterday.

The Scout Says: After sitting on the sidelines with a foot injury for the majority of the season, it remains to be seen just where a fully fit Matt Upson will sit in the pecking order under Nigel Pearson. With skipper Wes Morgan likely to retain his start regardless and Liam Moore falling out of favour, the 3.9-priced Upson could vie with Marcin Wasilewski (4.0) for pitch time. The latter’s budget appeal has earned him a place in 4% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides after starting each of the last 13 Gameweeks, with many snapping him up as a cheap fifth defender – with United, Palace, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and City in the next six, it’s fair to say he’ll be staying on our benches for the time being. Jeffrey Schlupp’s out-of-position berth on the left of midfield brings him into contention here, though the Ghana international may have to rely on attacking returns until the fixtures turn kinder in Gameweek 29.

Swans Made to Wait on Ki Return

The midfielder is set to miss next weekend’s clash with Southampton after South Korea reached the final of the Asia Cup yesterday. A 2-0 win over Iraq means Ki will square up to either Australia or the United Arab Emirates on Sunday – the same day as Garry Monk’s men make their way to St Mary’s.

The Scout Says: A vital member of Monk’s XI, Ki had started all but one of the opening 20 Gameweeks before international commitments forced him out of domestic contention. Since his departure, Swansea have picked up just two points in three matches, though the South Korean will be back in time for a home clash against Sunderland, and with vital clashes against West Brom and Burnley to follow, his presence will be crucial as Monk looks to steady the ship. With Gylfi Sigurdsson now set for a three-match ban and Wilfried Bony off to City, Ki could be handed spot-kicks for the Welsh outfit, though Sigurdsson’s absence is likely to hand Jonjo Shelvey (5.2) the role in “the hole”, for those who feel Monk’s men will prevail over those fixtures.

Bolasie Advances with DR Congo

The Palace winger played the full 90 minutes as DR Congo secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Bolasie’s side managed to progress despite failing to win any of their group matches and will now face neighbours Congo next Sunday – ruling him out of the weekend home encounter with Everton.

The Scout Says: Arguably the club’s star player this season, Bolasie’s absence was initially expected to see the Eagles struggle but Alan Pardew’s arrival has sparked a transformation. With the Congolese winger out of the picture, Pardew has fielded striker Dwight Gayle on the left and has been rewarded with three goals and an assist in the last two league matches, though with competition for our three-man frontlines so fierce, many have turned to Jason Puncheon instead. Drafted in by over 30,000 FPL managers since the previous deadline, the 5.5-priced midfielder has also delivered a goal in both his appearances under the new man in charge and is starting to find the form that saw him rack up 131 points last season. Pardew’s first-choice XI remains to be seen, then, with Bolasie potentially out of the picture until Gameweek 26 if he reaches the final.

Balls. Siggy's ban has properly messed with my pre-WC plans. Had him since the start (so I'd be losing quite a lot of TV), but

    a) Keep, means playing Albrighton this week, then go ahead with the WC plan next week
    b) one week punt: Siggy -> Valencia (currently no Man U coverage) for the tasty LEI fixture
    c) Slightly less punty Siggy -> Punchy
    d) some other transfer

    Option 1
    Foster, Pantimillon
    Jones, Bertrand, Bellerin, Hutton, Baird

    Aguero, Kane, COSTA

    Option 2

What was the point when you knew you were addicted to fantasy football?

Be interested to read your responses. Last time I asked this was a good few years ago and one of the responses I got back was from a doctor who altered his surgical shifts so that he had time to make changes when a gameweek deadline fell after some line ups were to be revealed.

Took me a few months, also discovering this site. For the first two months I played FPL I didn't make a transfer as couldn't work out how to. Ended up ok as that was the days when Defoe was scoring every other week and he became my default captain. When I worked out how to play it and moved to the top of my friends' mini-league was when I thought hang on there's more to this than just shifting t shirts around a screen.

To be honest when I look at my history, I can't believe I've been playing this game for 7 seasons now...
I can't even remember my first two seasons. Probably because I was not paying it much attention, which would explain my 669k and 891k finishes

Last year while I was sitting in an important exam, I glanced up at the clock and saw it was 2:47pm. Instead of getting worried that I only had 13 minutes left, my first thought was 'ooh the price changes would've just happened'. I literally spent those final 13 minutes pondering my free transfer, it's pretty much impossible to get back in the right frame of mind during an exam once you start thinking about FPL.

I think it was when I started University - All that spare time meant me and my mates were watching almost every game of the season. Once we brought fantasy football into it the games became so much more intense and getting one over on each other week by week became the highlight.

Then in the 09/10 season I had Fabregas as captain vs Blackburn when no one else did. He scored a goal and got about 4 assists in a 6-2 demolition and I was hooked.

As a Portsmouth fan this also coincided with our 09/10 relegation/administration/FA cup final season I think fantasy football was my way to escape the emotional turmoil. 🙁

I'm a Pompey fan too, and my piqued interest in FPL also started as our decline was in full motion. It gives us an impartial look at the Premier League teams, which could be an advantage.

Haha yeah, I actually look back on that season as my favourite of all time. I think the highs and the lows made every week a memory (I still have a vivid memory of beating Liverpool on a random league game for example) Watching vids of us beating Tottenham 2-0 in the semi final still makes the hair on the back my neck stand up, and then missing the penalty at 0-0 in the final? Total heartbreak.

Since then my memories are just a blur of Dave Kitson and last minute equalisers against the scummers.

I was a very casual player for a few years, in an office where no-one cared and you could win the ML by finishing 30-60k every year. Simpler times.

Then I moved to a much bigger company in 2011 and all of a sudden loads of people were playing it and there was money involved. That's when I stepped up my motivation/addiction. I started getting fixture print outs to analyse, making Excel spreadsheets for defensive rotations etc.

It required 600 - 2.5k finishes to beat rivals there, so it was the increased competition that turned me into a full blown addict.

I was in Japan in October and the kickoff times are brutal to FPL. I had an early Sunday flight so went to sleep around 10pm; captain Aguero was playing Villa at 0130 and I was having trouble sleeping. One of my highlights of the trip was seeing that beautiful football with Aguero next to it pop up on my Livescore app in the 89'.

When working a 74hour week, 12-14 hour shifts 6 days a week basically. We would have a break from 3-4 in the afternoon where we'd all go outside to smoke and most people would take a lie down amongst the tinned produce and dirty whites. Not me though, there was no wifi in the dry stores or the carpark-cum-smoking area. I'd spend that precious hour away from the troubles of work and demands of a girlfriend, looking into every aspect of the game/posting on here.

When you ask a lad you dont know who scored. Then wait a couple of seconds and then ask who got the assist.

Been doing FPL since 2002. They reset the history in 2006 hence why long termers like me only have a history back to that point. I have been addicted therefore for 13 😯 years.

      Priorities:
      FPL,
      Wife,
      Kids,
      Work,
      Dog.

Like all addictions it creeps up on you such that you are well addicted before you realise.

Addiction generally is a problem when it starts to interfere with your life and that was 12/13 for me when i found myself spending hours on it to the detriment of my job.

Ive managed to cut thst back to my commute and lunch break now, never catch up with colleague for lunch any more but to be fair they are all boring as batsh1t (and by that i mean they have no interest on fascinating topics like the impact of giroud on sanchez output) so thats ok.

I told a story in the deadzone earlier how on 27 december 2014 at 10am (oz time prior to transfers) i decided my pre gw plan to get benteke was wrong and i should get kane instead prior to his price increase. A good move in hindsight, not remarkable in itself, but i was actually with my wife in labour in hospital at the time. Im pretty confident that meets any criteria of addiction.

When I started to hold back information when discussing football with normal friends and colleagues, just to sound somewhere close to sane. Though it is very tempting to fill them in on the % increase of passes received in the final third for a burnley striker ahead of a meeting with their beloved liverpool ie, or the last info on the hamstring of a Hull midfielder they wouldnt even know who is, when they discuss where Hull is.

I'm late to the game, but me and 3 friends were all watching the Spurs West Ham game, and had Bale Captained. When he scored Spurs third goal, we all leapt up like we had scored the goal.

None of us were Spurs fans (Villa, Liverpool, West From and United, but celebrating like we were was a clarifying moment.

I was a classic casual until roughly one year ago. I was in a tight battle for a private league between my brother and friend and needed an edge. Found this site and although I ultimately ended up 2nd, I'm now crushing them by over 250 points. The addiction probably set in this season; I think much more about FPL on a daily basis than my PhD research. The worst side effect is hoping for 4-1 wins for my beloved Arsenal if I don't have defensive cover. I was at the Arsenal QPR match and one of my first thoughts when Giroud was sent off was "that will be -4 points for the 10% or so of the top 1k that captained him." I also had Charlie Austin and was not completely upset when he scored the pen.

It's only my second but it was pretty clear I was hooked after the first. Still can't live with the fact I lost my mini-league then. But after spending the whole summer looking at more transfer news for Stoke than my beloved Barcelona it was pretty clear. And the Suarez transfer brought me a looot of mixed feelings! 😀

Another moment when I had to check my sanity was sitting a pub with a mate in North London this season surrounded by Tottenham fans as Aguero took them apart.

Not a single City fan in the place and when he buried his 3rd I literally jumped and cheered - then slowly looked around in horror as I realised I was now surrounded by Tottenham fans that looked as though they wanted to kill me.

I didn't know what to say and the silence was awful until my friend just panicked and blurted out 'He's not a City fan... He just has Aguero as captain' to the lads on the table next to us.

They stared at me for like 3 second as if I was mad and then just cracked up laughing at me. Ended up going on a really good night out with them.

In Upper School when my school ran a fantasy game (their own version) and in my first ever go i won it by 100+ points due to Steed Malbranque amongst others.

After that i thought they only version available was the paid SUN version so i didn't bother for years until Sky came along. I signed up to FPL a few times but left it alone mainly as i wasent playing against anyone i knew and didnt understand the game (bother to check the rules).

After coming top 100 first ever season in Sky when it first opened (5-7 years ago i believe) i was hooked.

About 3 years ago when I was still studying I started staying up all night to watch Weekend fixtures (NZ time). The first football game starts around 1:45am and the last one starts at 6am. My flat mates gave me the strangest looks when they wake up either on a Sunday or Monday morning and I'm still up watching football.

Agree, but that is by design…..playing 3-5-2 and not 3-4-3.

Costa causes an imbalance in midfield so rules him out, then next best is Giroud but I prefer Sanchez, Ozil or Walcott.

This also allows me to get in Silva or Sterling if either hit the ground.

More 6M forwards available then Midfield at the moment.

I will get him in for Zaba. It will just allow me to do Asutin->Giroud. Then I am WC-ing and will see if Bellerin will stay in my team.

Best defender for 4.4m or less? Needs to rotate with West Brom, PVA?

I have 2 ft, is it stupid to make 3 changes? (WC next week)

    Foster / Myhill
    Zaba / Azpi / Jenkinson / PVA / Yun
    Sanchez / Hazard / Silva / Sterling / Boyd
    Costa / Kane / Benteke

    I'm thinking of:
    Zaba/Silva/Benteke to Bertrand/ADM/Giroud (for a hit)
    or
    Silva/Benteke to Giroud & Elia/Tadic

Just do your FTs, no point to save one beacuse you will wildcard

I'd keep Silva because City have awesome fixtures after the Chelsea game

According to @Daily_Express, Arsenal have made the versatile Großkreutz number one priority. Would cost £3.7m. Großkreutz is under contract until 2016 & is an Arsenal fan, @Daily_Express say. Hard-working & versatile

Never understood this guy's role. LB, LM, CB?

£3.7m? Great deal. If I were Wenger, don't think about it and get it sorted by midday!

With Debuchy out we surely can't play Champions League with Chambers (all the respect for him).

Ok Fair enough . He would be Arsenals best Full Back if he signed for them thats how good he is. Debuchy,Chambers,Gibbs etc all haven't got a patch on this guy.

He had an injured finger and missed a few matches but returned against Liverpool last week and was in excellent form, definetly not dropped

Will have giroud and sanchez so probably not wise to get cazorla aswell. Sterling has tough fixtures coming and not sure if he is still worth having even when studge is back? Not sure about oscar gametime.

So is adm my best option as a third big hitting mid?

yeah i think i'm going ADM for that reasons, easy to downgrade also if needed and want to keep an arsenal spot for walcott

Time to log off? Been messing with my team way too much on WC. Is this ridiculous?

    Panti, Krul
    Terry, Koscielny, Clyne, Jones, Baird
    Hazard, *Walcott, Tadic, Moses, Boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Giroud

No Sanchez is stupid right or will Arsenals midfield share points with everyone fit?
