These are difficult times for Granville. Sadly for him, his prediction that Diego Costaโ€™s studs played into my hands along with Emre Canโ€™s ankle proved correct โ€“ the Chelsea villain pushed me into a Gameweek 23 Wildcard and I cashed in.

It left Granville spitting feathers and 92-points behind but he remains defiant. Even with the millions draining from his squad via his active Wildcard, my resolute co-host is not giving up on keeping the season alive and the rivalry as bitter as ever.

We weigh up Granvilleโ€™s latest options in his quest to close the gap: analysing the contest between Sturridge and Aguero for our place in our forward lines, check in on the fallout from the Sanchez injury, whilst wading through the usual regulars ahead of another Gameweek.

Pay your dues via this link or mark up the deficit via the handy player belowโ€ฆ

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Afternoon deadzone, I'm down to the last few questions on my WC, I hope you don't mind me getting your thoughts, apologies the first scenario is a bit complex but so is this game ๐Ÿ™‚

Q1 Sanchez obviously has already gone. Do I

    a) Make it easy to get him back within a transfer
Naughton/ Hutton over Bellarin in back 5 of Ivan, Clyne, PVA, Naughton, Hutton
5th mid Boyd (home to Swa in wk 27) over Walters / Moses (home to Hull in wk 27)

    b) Make myself need 2 ft to get him back
Naughton/ Hutton over Bellarin in back 5 of Ivan, Clyne, PVA, Naughton, Hutton
    Walters over BOyd

    c) Make myself need to ditch another Arsenal and use 2FT to get him back
    Bellarin over Naughton / Hutton
    Walters over BOyd

      full team
      Foster, Krul
Ivan, Clyne, PVA, (2 from Naughton / Hutton / Bellarin)
Hazard, Silva, Caz, Erik / Sterling, Walters / Moses / Boyd
      Aguero, Giroud, Kane

Naughton/ Bellerin / Boyd I would choose , possibly even Cork over Boyd

          Thanks Jay

I've not had Boyd all season and seem to be very resistant to it for some reason

I like the idea of A myself and it's most likely what I'm doing also if all goes according to plan (it never does). Especially if Sanchez is fit for the Gw25 bout with Leicester at home, I think he would be a clear captain choice for the majority of here if deemed fit and for good reason.

There's also a good case for chasing here fwiw going sans Sanchez all together, and replacing him with Wally or another Arsenal mid for the Leicester game

One critique though, can you stretch the 5th mid to JWP if possible? Boyd is a bad option IMO with this run and although he's likely to start and play the 90, his chances of a decent return is minimal. I'd argue his chances of bagging you a clean sheet point is also low, so you're looking at a probable 2 pointer staring back at you when you need that bench most.

At least JWP offers more attacking threat and better fixtures to boot if/when you need him to perform, even f he doesn't start, his ceiling is exponentially higher playing for just 30 minutes on ab better team and more offensive team, IMO.

I've looked at JWP (assuming he is 4.8 per my memory), can afford if Sanchez drops in price which is likely

I worry whether he is nailed with all Soton new options, however

May not be nailed you're right, but in a 30 minute cameo I'm certain his chances of getting an assist from SP is higher than any attacking threat from Boyd, IMO.

best option would be NOT to have to use 2FT to bring him in, Costa will be back Gw 26, and you will need transfers to cope with the blank 27 for Chelsea and Spurs.. so option A imo

Thanks DGS, I think options B & C would effectively been I would not get him back until wk 29 at the earliest which is a bit of a scary thought

DEpends on the alternatives, how you want to play the blank

      Sanchez out? Yes

I'm not a big fan of Oscar but he does have good form and fixtures for next 3

    2. Jay_

I did that tonight , 3 good fixtures , transfer him out the week prior to the dgw to Downing (CPL ) as he blanks anyway and would most likely bench him for the dgw ( whu ) as other premiums have tasty fixtures , Downing easily swaps to Chadli for dgw the week after too

    A. ADM
    B. Walters

Anytime goalscoring odd say ADM... but that is just illogical... walters got the best odd...

    a) Keep Sanchez (play Ings)

    b) Sell Sanchez (bench Ings - would play Wisdom in this case)

Is my Wildcard team too strong? I don't want to defeat my ML rivals too badly

    Krul/Panti
    Ivanovic, Terry, PvA, Wisdom, Haidara
    Cazorla, Hazard, Sterling, Silva, Boyd
    Giroud, Kun, Kane

0.5 in the bank to do Sterling -> Walcott if Walcott is in the starting lineup midweek and then captain him

I'm actually offended by how intimidated by how menacing that team looks Hat.
Like the direction you're going with the Wally(c) could be a great call if Sanchez is still out, or even in (albeit that's stretching it)

Only real critique from me would be 5th mid, Boyd is a very poor option IMO and will probably net you a static 2 points on the bench. JWp is a stronger option is possible, if not I'd look elsewhere for a downgrade mate IMO.

Chelsea double up in the back is a great choice Hat, very nice. Solid side overall Hat, don't embarrass your rival too much though, we don't want this too get personal now ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

haha yeah sometimes I look at my team and I amaze myself at how great it is..what do you think about Ameobi from Newcastle? 4.3 and he scored last week but doesn't seem to play much??

        1. Zasa
          • 12 Years

I would be breath taken by that team if I was your rival, I can't even fathom how he could beat you as he will be in astonishment by the marvel bestowed upon him.

Not to sure on Ameobi, from what I've seen he's under stiff competition from Obertan and Gouffran on that flank. Looks like it's his place to lose though after goal and subsequent performance vs Hull, wouldn't say he's officially nailed though by any means. Carver does have many options at his disposal for that position IMO, don't take my word for it though. Perhaps you'll garner a better analysis on him from a local Newcastle expert or Demi (not Steve) if you can catch him in the day time.

Hmm, see the lack of good striker options and the great depth of midfield choices makes me want Giroud. He's one of the few strikers that are really performing. I just think Sturridge is a bit of a risk given the fixtures and his recent return from injury. I'd rather have the less risky Sterling and Giroud over say Sturridge + one other

I don't get the Silva bandwagon. Is it simply due to the cah from the Sanchez and ADM dumping?

Sure he has HUL next, but he assists the assister. He has not been a fantasy option over the years, and now at 9.4??

I bought him at 8.8 when he played false 9 due to Aguero's injury and dumped after the strikers recovered. Compare 8.4m Cazorla, who shoots scores assists, good stats, scores penalties.

Silva has good stats and is in good form, but the fixtures also ramp up the appeal. Hull are AWFUL

He is very effective as a #10 in a 4231. He had a great season not long ago playing that role under Mancini.

The 4222 is the problem though, if Bony becomes a starter then Silva's appeal will be a lot less.

Best fillers here on my WC?

    A) Clichy, Ameobi & Sturridge (Bank 0.0m - no route to Sanchez next week)

    B) Clichy, Sanchez & Perez (Bank 0.1m - benching Sanchez this week)

    C) Clichy, ADM & Perez (Bank 1.4m, no route to Sanchez next week)

    D) Wisdom, ADM & Perez (Bank 3.0m - can switch any mid to Sanchez next week)

    Foster, Myhill
    Terry, xxx, Coloccini, Bellerin, PVA
    Hazard, Silva, Oscar, Santi, xxx
    Aguero, Kane, xxx

Given the options and Clichy's potential of being rested... I'm liking D as your option - going 3-5-2 and affording yourself a top-notch MID for the upcoming GW - the way to go!

Thing with Clichy is that he actually doesn't get rested much, and when he does he rarely comes on as a sub:

Started 14 of the last 16 and no sub appearances for the other 2. Also, those 2 were over the busy Xmas schedule, so it made sense to give him a rest then.

As long as you have a reasonable back up I think he's a very good option with those fixtures.

City with one eye on the upcoming UCL fixture; perhaps more of a chance he'll be rotated for BPL? Worthy option, no doubt, I just think that having both Clichy & Bellerin may be a little too risky - leave you with Terry Coloccini & PvA as the weekly locks...

De Jong and P Cisse back in the mix at NEW - who is most at risk of rotation?

Presumably Colback and Tiote are fairly locked in the double pivot and Sissoko in an advanced role. So that leaves Cabella, Ameobi and Perez, and I'm toying with one of the latter 2 as my 8th attacker.

    1. Davids_Semen
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 6 months ago

Ameobi is a big risk, but he is only 4.3 and has a lot of attacking potential, more to loose with cabella

Carver may be more likey to stick with the old boys as he has been at the club for a while.

Saying that Tiote can be a bit of a liability, and i could see him missing some games too

Ozil is a curious option. So far he's had 7 full games this season with 1 sub appearance. He blanked in every game apart from the 2 times he's played Aston Villa where he got double figure returns. The other teams he faced were (eve, lei, MCI, TOT, che), so apart from Leicester they weren't easy.

Now some have said that Ozil was the standout player in recent fixtures. For those who watched his games since he return from injury, whats he been like? Is there a major fantasy prospect just bubbling under the surface here?

    1. Sheep
      • 13 Years

He will be one day for sure.

But Caz is in fine form, so may restrict his minutes IF Sanchez and Wally stay on the flanks.

So much uncertainty in the Arsenal attack. I'm sticking with just Sanchez for now until we know more.

                  A) Sturridge, Ozil, Zouma,

                  or

                  B) Giroud, Silva, Ivanovic

I have to admit, even I think B) is bloody obvious here

Have to admit, B is bloody obvious. However, I'd go with A because I love 'dem players. Studgy and Ozil are so sexy....Giroud and Silva are so dull.

I haven't seen him play, but listening to the radio commentary of the Villa match convinced me to take a punt on him. He sounds really sharp at the moment. Hope it pays off as I could've swapped Cesc for Silva instead.

Yeah it will be at the expense of Silva for me as well, Silva seems a bit short term with Bony coming.

That's it - if we get away with not having him for the Hull match I think we'll be alright. I actually prefer Arsenal's fixtures in the next four.

I just did Alexis out for Silva! Eeek! Hope he smashes it to bits in the next four ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha. Well at least we can both cheer Ozil on. I've kept Alexis on the bench, will be double Arsenal for me ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm just waiting for that Moses brace and Silva blank so I can cry myself to sleep Saturday night. And likely rage transfer my way into a 6 digit finish in FPL ๐Ÿ™‚

It's Mesut F**king Ozil. World Cup Winner. Euro top assist. Kept ADM on bench at Madrid.

      Enough said.

Fantasy wise he hasn't been a huge success in the premier league has he and again I feel the need to point out that Arsenal will not be walking all over Spurs at the weekend

That's also true. I expect a tight NLD, as it has been in recent years. Possibly a week early for the punt, but I think (hope) it'll pay off in the weeks ahead.

Also I believe that now Arsenal have so many top class fit attacking midfielders some big guns will have to make way in some of the games.

Oh they will. I'm pinning my hopes on Ozil's form, reputation and pricetag to ensure he isn't the one to make way. But probably no-one's immune to rotation in that midfield now.

Yeah its taken him a while to adjust to the premier league. I'm starting to wonder if he's beginning to find his feet though

Took out Sanchez for Silva(-4) , and I have Walcott in my midfield.
Feeling good about next week, this always ends bad though.

They are the worst weeks. Always. There is nothing better than a week when you think your team is average yet some how you comethrough wit an good score. Usually this tends to be by hitting the right captain choice.
