These are difficult times for Granville. Sadly for him, his prediction that Diego Costa’s studs played into my hands along with Emre Can’s ankle proved correct – the Chelsea villain pushed me into a Gameweek 23 Wildcard and I cashed in.

It left Granville spitting feathers and 92-points behind but he remains defiant. Even with the millions draining from his squad via his active Wildcard, my resolute co-host is not giving up on keeping the season alive and the rivalry as bitter as ever.

We weigh up Granville’s latest options in his quest to close the gap: analysing the contest between Sturridge and Aguero for our place in our forward lines, check in on the fallout from the Sanchez injury, whilst wading through the usual regulars ahead of another Gameweek.

Pay your dues via this link or mark up the deficit via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    I'm slightly surprised at the lack of love for Sterling. Liverpool are in great form and I really don't think their 'terrible' fixtures (eve, TOT, sot, MCI) are that hard from an attacking perspective. Call me crazy but I'd expect Pool to score in at least 3 of those, and if they do then Raheem is likely to be involved. He's also nearly 1m cheaper than Silva, who may be pushed out wide when Bony is back. Sturridge's return is another positive...

      Agreed. Haz/Caz/Sterling are nailed on in my wildcard midfield. Oscar/Silva/Eriksen + stashed Sanchez or Downing are battling for the last two spots for me.

      Yep I agree. I have Sterling and Silva though. Just the one Arsenal mid as I believe Bellerin and Giroud are too handy to ignore.

        From a defensive perspective I agree, but from an attacking perspective I don't think they are.

        Everton is a derby and the Everton defence has been terrible this season as all previous Baines owners will tell you. Would you expect Spurs to come to Anfield and keep a clean sheet? No chance IMO. Away at Southampton might be trouble but they'll be without Bertrand and possibly Alderweireld. And then home to City, a side who haven't kept a clean sheet since December.

          Nicely put. At in the fact that Liverpool are in great form offensively and suddenly the fixtures aren't anything to worry about.

          Everton have kept 2 CS's in the last game. MCI will be a tough game as they desperately need the points. He could profit from TOT and sot but them 4 fixtures are not easy.

      I'd rather Studge over Sterling either way though. And I could just as easily see three CS in those four. He could get more assists, but I think the goal scoring rate will drop off shortly.

        I know they're not easy, but I don't think they're as hard as they're made out to be. Everton kept clean sheets against an incredibly defensive-minded WBA and Crystal Palace. An in-form Liverpool will be a much harder proposition. And yes City desperately need points, which means they'll attack, leaving space for the likes of Sterling and Sturridge to capitalise.

    Bottom paged 🙁 Currently 3rd in my league of 23 with an OR of 21k, play it safe, play it safe/get differential or take a risk. What to do?

    A: Sanchez ---> Cazorla
    B: Sanchez + Puncheon ---> Cazorla + Sterling (-4hit)
    C: Sanchez ---> Sterling (hope giroud is enough ARS cover)

        Good options. I'd say C takes it, though Caz is tempting as a straight swap for Sanchez. If it weren't for the hit I'd also say B

    Boys this wildcard malarky is getting to me.

    My Wildcard is active, and so far I'm sitting on...

    Panti, Foster

    Terry, PVA, Bellerin, Baird, Wasllewski

    Hazard, Sterling, Eriksen, Silva, Cazorla

    Aguero, Kane, Giroud

    Do we think the defence is too weak there? And if so, which of those 8 fine mids/attackers do I drop?

    Cheers in advance

      Wasi is probably losing his spot in the coming weeks. I wouldn't like having that much money on the bench every week. I think I'd lose Sterling only because his fixtures are so rough, but I think Caz is cooling off soon too.

      It's pretty terrible in my opinion. You have to bench one of the front 8 and all are worth 8m plus. You have to play 3 defenders and 4 are cheapies, 3 of which are not sure starters. Plus you have 4 Chelsea/Spurs ahead of a blank.

      I'd downgrade Eriksen to someone like Fletcher and use the 4m on the defence. Maybe Koscielny for Bellerin, Wisdom for Baird, Naughton for Wasilewski. Something like that.

        I bought Sanchez at 10.4 and am a little miffed I missed the second price drop this week. I could sell now for 10.8m, if I was to do so.

        When you consider Cazorla (form of his life plus set pieces), Walcott (will always be the most advanced Arsenal attacker when playing on the break), and Ozil (the most creative player Arsenal have on his day), are all returning to full fitness, then it does make you question if Sanchez will be rested in games before/after Champions League fixtures. So it isn't just a matter of whether he'll be back for the Leicester game midweek.

          I have been saying this for a week and have mostly been told I am a halfwit.

          Of course that's true. But even half a wit can see that keeping Sanchez is just prolonging the pain. As irrational as rushing to bring Aguero back in GW 22 was. 😉

              Interesting. It does seem likely that Wenger will refresh the team after the NLD... Ozil PLUS Walcott seems unlikely and even Cazorla has been playing week in / week out.

              This is wonderful logic. The NLD is "not important". A home game against Leicester which Arsenal will win anyway is somehow more significant is it?

              If Arsenal have any sense at all (which they do) they will take NO risks with Sanchez with the CL returning soon and with plenty of options now Ozil and Walcott are back.

    I really shouldn't have WC'd a couple of weeks ago, fallen from 6k to 15k in last month. What should be my first long term priority from here on?

    Heaton (4.0)
    Cahill, PvA, Wisdom (Wasi, Aldy)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Puncheon, Downing (Albrighton)
    Aguero, Kane, Giroud

    £5.5m

    A. Downing --> Sterling/Eriksen/Chadli/ADM
    B. Cahill --> Terry/Azpi
    C. Heaton --> Ospina/Krul/Panti
    D. Other

      I think they have 3 nailed on in the front 6(Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Pelle), then rotation in the other spots, with Mane and Davis higher in the pecking order than the others.

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 1 month ago

        Why is Davis so high on said pecking order? With Schneid and Wanyama fit he seems pretty redundant given their other more attacking options. I've never really liked him much either..

        1. Demí
          • 15 Years

          No idea, but Koeman must like him. I think he's better than JWP who everybody seems to rate. He was starting often with Wanyama and Schneiderlin, but think that was before Mane was tried in the central role.

          1. Walsh
            • 12 Years
            11 years, 1 month ago

            I think that JWP's set pieces are so ridiculously good and head and shoulders above anyone else that difference alone makes him worthwhile starting over Davis, who I don't particularly rate, though I do recognize he seems to put a shift in every game. But hey. Ho.

      Really clueless about this. So many different things he could do....and hard to see how he changes given how woeful they were against Swansea. I would not be considering Elia right now, though.
