As the dust settles on the midweek matches, we take a look at some of the lessons learned. Arsenal’s pair of playmakers and the upturn in forward options at both ends of the price brackets give us plenty to contemplate.

Ozil is stealing Santi’s limelight…
Handed another start on the left as Arsene Wenger opted for Alexis Sanchez up front against Leicester, the German’s form continued with a pair of assists in the 2-1 triumph. Since recovering from injury, Ozil has started each of the last three Gameweeks and has produced returns on every occasion for a total of 32 points, courtesy of two goals, three assist and six bonus points. Cazorla – the only other Arsenal heavy-hitter to also start the last three – seems to have tailed off by comparison and after producing a converted penalty and two assists against Villa, has delivered back-to-back blanks as Ozil becomes increasingly influential for the Gunners in the final third.

N’Doye could save the Tigers…
A vital home win over Villa suggested Hull have the appetite for a relegation scrap as Steve Bruce’s side scrambled clear of the bottom three. Fundamental to Tuesday’s triumph was the decision to partner Nikica Jelavic and new boy Dame N’Doye up top as the Tigers tore into their lacklustre visitors in Paul Lambert’s last match in charge. Prior to their midweek result, no Hull forward had played a part in more than one goal in any given Gameweek – on his first start for the club, N’Doye delivered a goal and assist and with QPR, Sunderland and Leicester in the next four, has the chance to fire the Tigers up the table.

’Arry’s exit might keep the R’s afloat…
Few, if any, gave QPR a fighting chance as they made their way to Sunderland. Having lost every away match under Harry Redknapp, the loss of top scorer Charlie Austin suggested they’d offer little resistance at the Stadium of Light but it seems that their former manager’s departure may be a blessing in disguise after Chris Ramsey orchestrated a shock 2-0 win. Ramsey’s task has been made that bit tougher after midweek scorer Leroy Fer was ruled out for ten weeks with a knee injury but his tactical tinkering proved decisive on Wearside. With Fer and the likes of Niko Krancjar and Matty Phillips fielded in their favoured positions and Rio Ferdinand alongside Steven Caulker at the back, Ramsey’s QPR already has a different feel about it.

Sturridge is back in business…
With Raheem Sterling sidelined through injury, the forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 3 as Liverpool edged past Spurs in a five-goal thriller at Anfield. Sturridge may have failed to score but his pair of assists served up an eight-point haul and brought him back onto our radars as Brendan Rodgers’ side continue their relentless climb up the table. As we noted in yesterday’s Technical Area article, Sturridge’s underlying stats since returning from injury are superior to last season’s and suggest that the Fantasy returns should be on the rise if he can start to stick away his opportunities.
as is Aguero…
A two-goal haul at Stoke last night finally brought the City striker’s barren run to an end. Having managed just two assists in four appearances prior to the Britannia visit, Aguero had disappointed since returning from injury but his sparkling display – allied with the return of Yaya Toure – bodes well for Fantasy managers ahead of clashes with Newcastle, Leicester and Burnley in the next four. With Diego Costa now free from suspension and Sturridge also in the mix, the battle of the premium priced strikers is set to intensify.

Chelsea lack bite without Costa…
There’s no question that the Blues suffer in the final third without their star striker. Jose Mourinho’s side may have won four and drawn two of the six league matches without Costa on board but, as we saw against Everton last night, they struggle to put away opponents and have triumphed by more than a single strike in just one of those four victories. Chelsea have notched 1.7 goals per match when Costa has been missing but that average leaps to 2.4 when he’s around – potentially good news for owners of Eden Hazard after the Belgian managed just one goal and assist over Costa’s three-match suspension.

We can’t write Ings off…
Harry Kane aside, there are few forwards quite as consistent as the Burnley forward right now. After finding the net just once in the opening 11 Gameweeks, Ings was slow in making his mark in the top-flight but eight goals and four assists over the subsequent 14 rounds of fixtures underlines the transformation. Impressively, Ings’ midweek strike at Old Trafford means he has produced points in ten of his last 14 league appearances and it’s fair to say if the Clarets are to get any joy out of a brutal next few matches (che, SWA, liv, MCY, sou, TOT, ARS), he needs to continue that form.

Pardew’s spoilt for choice…
The Palace boss has a couple of substitutes to thanks for salvaging a point at home to former club Newcastle. Fraizer Campbell had played just four minutes of Pardew’s first four matches in charge but, after being sent on as a replacement for the injured Yaya Sanogo, fired the equaliser courtesy of a Yannick Bolasie assist. Eased back into action after returning from the African Cup of Nations, Bolasie looks poised to challenge Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Zaha for the wide roles, whilst Campbell’s strike – allied with the decision to bench Dwight Gayle – look set to cause Fantasy managers a real headache.

Ideye may be Pulis’ main man…
With Victor Anichebe calling off due to yet another injury, the Baggies summer signing grabbed his chance as the lone striker in a crucial win over Swansea. Having notched as a sub in the previous Gameweek, Ideye’s goal and assist in the 2-0 victory means he’s now played a part in three of West Brom’s last four strikes. With Sunderland, Villa, Stoke and QPR in four of the next six, the Nigerian – who had scored just a single goal due to limited pitch time under Alan Irvine – is suddenly another name to consider in the budget bracket.

Agree. Brought him in at 10.6 and holding for now but wouldn't pay 11.3. If he comes back, I like the fact it will make others field weaker teams to afford him. Helps break templates.

Posted this last page but didn't really get the advice I was looking for.

    Panti
    PvA, Terry, Bellerin
    Hazard, ADM, Mane, Sanchez,
    Kun, Giroud, Kane

    Krul | Boyd, Wisdom, Bertrand

    1FT, 1.9 ITB

Thoughts on Wisdom -> Alde (LIV) on a FT and play him over PvA (WBA) to avoid Sunderland double up? Don't see a CS for them this week. Next week I'll save before GW28.

One question, do you see a clean sheet for the Saints vs one of the most in-form offenses in the league though? Not to mention Sturridge back in the fray hungry for a goal or two. I'd wait a week for Toby, IMO, as he may even drop in price this week.

I do actually, Saints can keep a CS against anybody imo (see CS at Old Trafford). LFC will have had a EL fixture on Friday too, so they may be tired from that.

We have struggled to break down solid defensive teams, e.g. everton last week.

Looks like you've made your decision then Nick, at least it's a home fixture fwiw.

In regards to the Everton match-up, I think that has much to do with Martinez's tactically astute side and them(Besic) nullifying Coutinho's influence in the game. I can't see the Saints out maneuvering and out-classing BR tbh, their set-up is very much in contrast to Pool's ultra attacking 3421

Yeah. Alternatively, if I do bring him in I could play him over Bellerin (cry)?

Yeah that's true. Injuries to Lucas and Sterling should help southampton though.

I dunno, I guess I'll see. If Alde is confirmed fit then I'll most likely do it but I guess it may be better to just make sure that he is a starter.

I'd play Bellerin there for sure, he also has the better attacking threat so that's poor move for me man.

Maybe, this will be a very interesting match, perhaps Koeman will be the first to unravel the layers of the 3421. What I'm more curious about is how Gardos will cope with Ibe/Markovic's pace on the right, that may be the match up to keep eye on.

I'm also in the same situation as you as I have 2 FT's and Wisdom to deal with, and honestly I think you need to start stacking up the FT's if you're not 100% on your trannie this GW. The blank is coming up and planning is needed, your backline is fine and can't see any of them being benched, IMO.

Yeah, attacking threat is much higher, you're right. Just not sure if I see a cleanie for the Gunners there.

Wasn't Yoshida playing LB? Either way, I think both may struggle, you're right.

That's true, I think I'm convinced now. Thanks again mate.

I'm happy to help you out now mate, if you type out your team I'm happy to recommend where you can use those 2 FT of yours!

                  Np Nick 😮

Hah, it's alright mate, I'm just doing Wisdom to Toby this week and going w/o Sanchez. Cheers though man!

Oh okay, fair enough! So you are doing the exact same move as I may do. So who will be your three playing defenders and which two are you benching?

                      Indeed

Yes, albeit it's a forced move. I'll be playing Clichy, Zouma, Belerina, and benching Wisdom and PvA most likely

Long term Wisdom to Alderweireld is a great move, I'm looking to make that move myself (probably next week). But PvA at home to WBA is too good to bench, reardless of how last weeks match went.

            You think?

Sunderland's defensive stats aren't actually good at all, and WBA have been in good scoring form. Could go either way.

It could, but I just think it's a luxury transfer. You may be planning to save one next week, but what happens if one or two of your squad get injured/banned before that week? Then you'll be forced to make a transfer and you'll regret having not saved 2 this week.

Haha no worries. I wish I could save a transfer either this week or next, but I have both Wisdom and Jones to deal with, so it looks like I'll only have 1 transfer for GW28 🙁

Ah, that's annoying. Who are your other three defenders? You could always just play them and bench Jones and Wisdom.

Terry, PvA, Trippier. Trippier away to Chelsea which could easily be negative points, even though he did get 2 assists vs United. Looking forward to GW27, I'll only have PvA and Trippier when I'll require 4 starting defenders to actually field eleven players. So Wisdom + Jones will become Alde + Wollscheid over the next 2 weeks.

Fixing wisdom is a good use of ft, needs to be done this week or next anyway. But how sure are we alde will slot straight back in? There are more informed people than me who can advise on that, if in doubt I'd save and see what happens this weekend. Id rather have PVA than alde this week anyway, ignoring the double up which it see as an irrelevance.

You do make some good points. 2 CS in 2 from soton has really hurt me (holding onto the suspended Bertrand) so missing out on another could be detrimental.

I'd say he'll slot back in, he is a first team player who has played all season when fit. No reason to bench him.

Well the way I see it, if I play Alde over PvA then it's hedging my bets, I'll still benefit from a Sunderland CS, and I won't suffer heavily if they concede (which I think they will).

        Thanks, Zan.

I'm looking at Wollscheid as the replacement. Right now I have the exact cash to do Wisdom to Wolly, but I fear Wisdom may be dropping soon. Do I take the drop and get Jones out now (when injury is confirmed) or replace him next week with Alderweireld?

Both good options Kurt, albeit Wollsh has a great fixture coming up vs a toothless Villa offense. Alot depends on how he slots into your current defensive rotation scheme.

For Toby, if you can buy him now and bench him, that's also a good option and preferred IMO. Both have good Gw27 fixtures also, so you can rely on them for bench cover

Yeah I'll be needing to transfer both out over the next 2 weeks using free transfers, as otherwise I won't be able to field a full XI next week. Just deciding who goes first. I may do Jones/Wisdom to Wolly this week, and then Jones/Wisdom to Alde the next. Cheers for your help!

2FT this week and not sure what to do. I may be tempted to ditch Terry for the blank. WOuld also help to fund Costa if they have a DGW post blank. Just seems so wrong to ditch him against Burnley ㅠㅠ

Id ditch zouma over terry. There is a real risk he won't play both double game week fixtures making him a total waste of a Chelsea spot

Was thinking that aswell, Wouldnt lose any value on him. though he wouldnt provide me with great funds. Ditching Terry would means I could get Lloris and have another DGWer. Just doing the math on the transfers tab taking Zouma out would still leave me a bit short getting Costa and Eriksen.

Getting Costa and Erik is definitely a priority. I may shift Sanchez to do it, an advantage of having lost my built in value by selling/buying last 2 weeks

Wow, very nice team, good one you for not picking Wisdom/Baird!
It looks like you do have the luxury of transferring out a blank week player though or sure. Albeit perhaps you should be looking at taking AdM out soon and Silva to follow. I think both are generally poor choices, with the former being the weak link.

You could be looking at this though soon, not sure what you have in the works just some ideas.
              Zouma/Terry to Spurs D
              Giroud to Costa
AdM/Silva to Erik or Boyd to Dembele?

ADM or Silva are going for eiksen alright post blank. No point getting a Spurs defender for Terry/Zouma as thatll mean I ll be plying with 10 men GW27. Giroud to Costa is what Im planning alright

I actually did have Baird. Brought in Bellerin late to the party haha

Yeah sorry, these are post blank moves fwiw. Zouma/Terry to a spud is a DGW move Gw27 and also an enabler to get you Costa for the DGW if Chelsea have it on the same date.

I see 😛 Good move then man!

Out of the box thinking. AVOID ARS attacking assets.

    1. Wenger's musical chairs, even Giroud Ozil may be benched any given week without warning.
    2. If game goes well, your player may not see 60 mins.
    3. Averaging 2-3 goals per game being shared by Ramsey Ozil Welbeck Giroud Wilshere Rossisky Walcott Sanchez Oxlade Flamini Cazorla Akpom .Too many cooks. No central explosive figure. Even if there is an explosion odds are against it being your player among that bunch.
    4. Expensive 8.5-9 m per player.
    5. Contrast Hazard Costa, Kane Eriksen, Aguero if their team scores odds are your player is involved.

When fit, Sanchez and Ozil always play 90mins week in week out. Can't say the same for the rest but I think one of Sanchez or Ozil is basically essential when they have nice fixtures.

Walcott still a good differential too
Ramsey Chamerlin Wilshere are injured, nobody has rosiky Flamini akpom or even welbeck, so really you are down to ozil, giroud, walcott sanchez

two out of those four I think have equal chance of success in scoring points - but arsenal do very often win by big margins when they click. I do believe Caz will continue to tail off after his purple patch

Yep, you can change it for every match. It was the same fantasy game for the IPL, after the start of each game the site went offline for about 30 mins while they updated, then you could change your captain and make subs for the next game.

Unless there are any fixtures postponed because of bad weather, the blanks and DGWs for the rest of the season are:

    Blanks
GW 27: Tottenham, QPR, Chelsea & Leicester
GW 33: Fixtures involving teams playing in the FA Cup semi finals

    DGWs
GW 28: Tottenham & QPR (and possibly Chelsea & Leicester)
GW 31: Chelsea & Leicester (if they can't play in GW 28)
GW 34: Blanks from GW 33

(GW 37 is also a free midweek if the games that clash the FA Cup aren't rescheduled for GW 34)

That is exactly what I'm planning to do, little to no room to manoeuvre in this DGW as most will have the same players representing them. Can't see this upcoming DGW being too dramatic tbh

thing is....there aren't many premier league teams left in the cup but if United Arsenal and Liverpool manage to get to the semis that could be some tasty DGW there

ok 10/16 are still PL but not many teams to get you excited about a DGW

It's not only them to get blanks and dgw. It's their opponents too, right?

right, there'll probably be between 4 and 8 teams on a DGW in GW 34.

Saving my WC wasnt the best move this year

I would love to see some form of algorithm (Don't know how) on saving the WC. Using early on can sort out a mess one may have or collect price rises and leaving it late cashes in DGW's or blanks.

doesnt make sense to save the wildcard so late in the season

a wildcard should have effect for like 10 gwks, playing it in the end is a waste

GW31 could be less dramatic as it's only really Arsenal, Liverpool and United left out of the real fantasy options and they may meet eachother before the semi anyway (if they all get there) I can't see many rushing to fill their teams with Palace players (for example) at the expense of your Hazard's, Kane's and Aguero's.

No consistency, so good decision imo. They should give up on all this stuff tbh, dont really bother when players from other clubs do such things and when media hypes particular incident, they consider it.

No, crazy that you would call for someone to be suspended over that

You should actually watch what happened. Ivan was talking to him for about 5 sec and the act of leaning towards him as the conversation continued was somehow seen as a "headbutt"

It certainly wasn't innocent by any stretch, but way too innocuous for a ban.
