Gameweek 28 gets underway with three 7.45pm kick offs, as Southampton look to steady the ship against Alan Pardew’s buoyant Crystal Palace side. Four of the bottom eight go head-to-head tonight, with Hull City entertaining Sunderland at the KC Stadium and Aston Villa hosting West Brom in the West Midlands derby.

Ronald Koeman will try to arrest the Saints’ three-match winless streak when the Eagles land at St Mary’s Stadium. Crystal Palace will fancy their chances, however, having won every away match under Alan Pardew in all competitions, including a 3-2 FA Cup win at St Mary’s back in January. With no goals to his name in 10 appearances, Graziano Pelle is on borrowed time but once again retains his starting spot. Meanwhile, Jason Puncheon tallied three assists last time out and is thriving in a central midfield berth for the Eagles, whilst Alan Pardew has handed Dwight Gayle the lone striker role this evening.

The Villains search for their first win in 12 when they lock horns with a Baggies outfit that are unbeaten in their last four. Tim Sherwood’s men – who have only registered two goals in 10 Gameweeks – will do well to breach a defence that’s claimed three consecutive clean sheets, given that Christian Benteke hasn’t netted in his last ten.  Brown Ideye and Sadio Berahino have both been passed fit for Tony Pulis’ side after limping off injured in the weekend win over Southampton. The latter is the visitors’ form man, having bagged two goals in his previous three outings and with Ron Vlaar missing out for the home side, the Baggies could be in line for another triumphant evening.

Hull City chase their third successive home win as the Black Cats fight for their first victory in four. Steve Bruce’s men are boosted by a return to the first XI for Nikica Jelavic and Dame N’Doye, who have both scored in each of their last two starts. Jermain Defoe looks the Black Cats’ main threat, despite the 32-year-old striker drawing blanks in his previous three outings, whilst Patrick van Aanholt owners are left disappointed as the Dutchman drops out of Gus Poyet’s side for the second time in three league outings.

I sold Mane yesterday for Eriksen. The bold move would have been to ship out Sanchez instead but I didn't have the balls. Still, Soton don't look very threatening and it's Chelsea next for them, so the logic may still stand the test of time.

'A different club from top to bottom'. Er no. We're going through a bad patch where our main striker's in terrible form, we're lacking a bit of creative flair and we're lacking confidence. Nothing systemic has changed. Stop deluding yourself.

Koeman has a clue. See the first half of the season.

And our scouting network is massive, not just held together by one man. The reason we didn't buy in January was because of reluctance at the very very top.

First Cortese. Then Poch. Then Mitchell.

The transfers have got progressively worse in that time. Ominous.

                      11 years, 2 months ago

Our best two players have been Fonte, nothing to do with Mitchell, and Schneiderlin, nothing to do with Mitchell. And our overall success of the club is sustained by a great youth academy (see Reed, JWP), nothing to do with Mitchell.

Poch had limited command over transfers and Cortese oversaw the spending on Ramirez and Osvaldo = our most dire flops.

Clyne didn't take a lot of clever scouting - there were a host of PL clubs after him, and the same for Wanyama who nearly went to Cardiff.

Alderweireld was apparently keen because of Koeman's presence, as were Pelle and Tadic (whatever you might think of them).

Your arguments are full of sensationalism and twaddle. And the proof against you is our performance this season. 7 points from our PL record, despite an overall net profit in the transfer windows.

Now if Les Reed goes, then I'm scared. If you knew anything about our club, you'd know he's the real puppet master.

And you've changed your opinion within the last couple of months - so the change of heart can't be reflected in long-term changes that you've listed. You materialise stuff out of nowhere to back up your latest fickle scare-mongering.

I'm aware of Reed but Cortese was always hailed as the point man in your recent rise. And the fact that all the signings of late smack of Koeman don't say much for Reed do they. Also, and more worryingly, what does it matter what your academy produces if you'll just sign dross to block their pitch time? Completely counterintuitive to the approach that got yous where you are.

We've had one bad window - I'm not going to defend it, it wasn't the best. It doesn't mean we're turning our back on youth. Koeman's been perfectly willing to play them, without putting too much pressure on them. They're young and they need time.

Again, we'll see. And again, I hope I'm wrong as I've always had a soft spot for yous. But the direction of the club is worrisome right now. That cannot be denied. I mean, for all the crazy sh!t LvG's done signing the two wasters Koeman did in January takes the cake.

Yeah. I think he was consistently as good as he can be, he'd be in a similar bracket to Schneiderlin and we'd be contemplating the thought of having to replace him too. The consistency may come with maturity/experience though...

No, He just doesn't do it for me

Chelsea will be playing not to lose games from now on in meaning a lot of low scoring games.
