A dire Gameweek 29 limps to its conclusion this evening as Swansea and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Liberty. Brendan Rodgers returns to his former club having guided the Reds to a 12-match unbeaten run since moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have the chance to get amongst the points against a defence with a single shut-out in six in front of their own fans.

At the back, the visitors have been a consistent source of clean sheets in recent matches. The Merseysiders have kept out their opponents in six of the last eight Gameweeks and have Martin Skrtel available after the Slovakian recovered from a head knock that forced him off on a stretcher against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup stalemate last time out. Mamadou Sakho also returns as one of three centre-backs as Dejan Lovren drops to the bench. Rodgers has made further changes in the wing-back roles, with Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic dropping to the bench: Alberto Moreno is recalled on the left while Raheem Sterling looks to be deployed on the right.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss at Spurs in Gameweek 28. Prior to that defeat, Garry Monk’s men had registered back-to-back victories and earned three points in their previous match at the Liberty, courtesy of a 2-1 win over United.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was back in the goals last time out and has the upcoming fixtures to earn himself a place in our five-man midfields again, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung has notched three times in the last five and, at 5.1 in FPL, is staking a claim as a cheap budget option.

The teamsheet finds Monk forced into one change as Jordi Amat comes in for Federico Fernández who misses out for family reasons. Up front, Bafetimbi Gomis is available to lead the line after recovering from his collapse at White Hart Lane in the previous Gameweek.

Why didn't bellerin feature at the weekend? Worried about his game time with chambers and debucy on the horizon

    Bellerin > Alderwield for free?

Will probably play in CL tomorrow night. Hard to know what will happen but likely to start ahead of Chambers but not sure what will happen when Debuchy is back (or when he's back)

I am doing this. Even if Bellerin plays, Aldy has more points potential due to SOTON defense, and kinder fixtures, and Bellerin has the blank in gw33.

Halftime! time for a bit of a debate
Considering i/we will probably give in and swap Mane/Siggy for a DGWer GW 34 who would you rather have for the next 4 games?
Mane - BUR eve HULL stk
Siggy - avl HULL EVE lei

Leaning towards Siggy tbh cause while i'd like Mane for the entire run in Siggy has the better next 4 fixtures on paper

This is a good question, because some of us (moi included) are considering upgrading Austin to Costa, and downgrading Sanchez to create the cash. I am deciding b/w Hendo, Siggy and Mane if I do downgrade Sanchez and upgrade Austin (maybe this week, maybe next week, etc.).

I am shipping Eriksen to Mane this week so will have both.

Hazard Silva Mane Siggy Mahrez is the plan for 33/34, allows for Costa up front.

Currently 16 points behind my mini league leader. We have similar teams but i get my captain wrong every time where as he gets it right mostly (my Aguero to his Giroud this week)

At what stage do I be a bit maverick with captain choices? 16 points isnt a lot but he has a wildcard still and I cant see me catching him at this rate.

That's a really good shout. Playing him this weekend?

No, benching this weekend (playing Downing), but he could still get returns against that tired post-UCL defence.

Why'd you make the change this week then? To avoid the Defoe price drops?

Yep. Looks like he's going to drop again tonight, so cutting my losses.

        Not IMO

Only one possible is Sakho, but Austin has the advantage of pens

    fabianski
    Alderweireld. Ivan. Cresswell. Kelly. Upson
    Ozil. Hazard. Mane. Sinclair. Boyd
    Sturridge. Aguero. Costa

    How does this lot look?

Difficult to justify the top heaviness. Doable in previous season due to 111 TV etc. but no this season, imo. That MF looks too light.

Sturridge and Sinclair or Kane and Silva is a no brainer imo

I like its different though. Not a huge amount of players on form atm

          No 🙂

Mane is good against higher defensive line like Chelsea played but I can't see him score more points than Siggy. He has set piece monopol and I think he is also on penalties now?

Play WBA defender vs MCI or use one of my 2FT to bring someone in?

    Current def is: Terry/Clyne/Cawson/PVA/Bruce

Ok, so plenty of options. Question marks over PVA with a new manager in place, but Bruce doesn't have any good fixtures left. Bruce > Alderweireld could be a good move.

Toby is definitely an option. Think I'll have a benching dilemma with Terry/Clyne/Toby/Cawson defence?

Should be okay. Easy to bench Dawson GW30, bench a Saint GW31, GW32 is a major headache, then West Brom's fixtures get difficult.

Another option I'm considering is the double up of Terry and Ivan... might sleep on that one though

Siggy playing in the hole, Routledge wide left, Gomis up top and the Cork, Ki and Shelvey in defensive midfield roles?

Swansea have nobody on the right?

Siggy at the tip and Cork at the base. Routledge and Gomis up front.
