Our quest to unearth some overlooked gems this week takes on a decidedly Belgian flavour as we champion a striker and defender from the international Red Devils. West Ham’s Senegalese striker completes our complement of enticing differentials.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku has struggled to replicate the form that earned him a £28 million switch to Everton last summer, netting just one goal in 14 starts prior to last Gameweek. There are signs, however, that the Belgian marksman is starting to rediscover his touch, given that he’s scored in the Toffees’ previous three matches in all competitions. Granted, two of those were converted penalties, yet the confidence garnered from those spot-kicks was apparent for all to see in Everton’s 5-2 Europa League defeat to Dynamo Kiev last night, in which Lukaku equalised with a pinpoint curling strike from just outside the area.

Further to his goal against Newcastle United last time out, the 8.8-priced Lukaku managed more attempts on target (three) than any other Premier League forward in Gameweek 29 and also provided the assist for James McCarthy’s first goal of the season. Everton’s upcoming run of four fixtures (qpr, SOU, swa, BUR) includes the two most obliging defences in the league (QPR and Burnley), providing a platform for the former Chelsea striker to build on his recent momentum. Considering that the R’s haven’t recorded a home clean sheet this year, backing Lukaku to score for the fourth consecutive clash this weekend seems like an astute decision.

Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld’s return from a hamstring injury offers yet another viable route into Southampton’s resilient rearguard. No team has seen their defence breached on fewer occasions (21) than Ronald Koeman’s outfit this term, so it’s no wonder Saints trio Nathaniel Clyne (35%), Ryan Bertrand (19%) and Jose Fonte (14%) are among the three most heavily-backed defenders in the Fantasy Premier League.

Alderweireld (4.7) comes with the obvious upside that he’s priced well below the other starters in Southampton’s defence – his central defensive partner Fonte, for instance, will set you back 1.2 more than the Belgian. With pivotal double Gameweeks on the horizon, sourcing value in defence to facilitate the purchase of heavy-hitting midfielders and forwards will be on many managers’ agendas.

Three clean sheets in Southampton’s last six outings strengthens Alderweireld’s case for inclusion. As does the fact that Saints go head-to-head with two of the leagues’ bottom-five scoring teams (Burnley and Hull) in their upcoming schedule (BUR, eve, HUL, sto) as Koeman’s side look to get their bid for a top four finish back on track.

Diafra Sakho

Having faced six of the top seven sides in the last seven Gameweeks, West Ham enjoy a relatively smooth run-in that includes only two teams (Manchester City and Stoke City) currently occupying berths in the league’s upper echelons. The Hammers will look to bounce back from their seven-match winless streak when they entertain Sunderland at the Boleyn Ground this Saturday, as Diafra Sakho searches for his first goal in four starts.

With Enner Valencia still sidelined by virtue of a lacerated foot, Sakho shoulders much of the goalscoring burden for the misfiring Irons. Although the Senegal international has offered little cause for celebration in recent weeks, his underlying stats reveal a knack for engineering attempts on goal – in the past four Gameweeks, only QPR’s Charlie Austin (22) has fashioned more shots than Sakho (17), with the Hammers man producing more attempts from inside the box than any player during that period. Priced at just 5.4 in FPL, Sakho could be a real bargain option if he can start tucking away his numerous opportunities.

    Please help.

    De Gea + 4.0
    Bertrand, Bellerin, Rose, Naughton, PVA
    Walcott, Sterling, Hazard, Silva, Ameobi
    Giroud, Aguero, Kane.

    2FT, 0.1itb

    Confused:
    a) Sell Walcott for eg Siggy and upgrade Ameobi to Sinclair?
    b) Trade Walcott for Ramsey?
    c) Defensive tinkering - eg Berty to Toby for the $$?
    d) Keep Walcott as differential and sell Sterling.
    e) Aguero to Costa
    f) None of the above

Nothing seems urgent, yet team feels a bit wrong...

Gw33 will come round quickly and you have 5 players who will miss it. Personally I would downgrade Walcott as you suggest (Mane or Siggy?) and save the other transfer. If you can keep rolling that extra transfer until 33 or even 34 you'll be laughing.

      Myhill / Foster

      Sanchez / Hazard / Silva / Eriksen / Cork
      Aguero / Kane / Austin

      2 FT 0.0 ITB

Need to make (at least) 1 transfer in order to have 2 next GW.

I'm surprised at not seeing much Utd talk on here, currently considering a Utd player, perhaps Fellaini. Who would you pick out of the following:

      A) Fellaini
      B) Sterling
      C) Mane

I've been thinking Fellaini's a good shout this week.

His aerial ability versus Emre Can and Joe Allen plus he used to play for Everton so would probably love to score against Liverpool...

I agree, he seems more of a threat going forward and Utd seem to be able to score again of late. The only downside is Utds fixtures, mind you, they still manage to grind out a win against most teams.

        One of my rivals: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1942202/event-history/29/

I looked last night and he had made one free transfer, and had about 4.8 in the bank... This morning he has made another and has 1.6. From memory he didn't have much in the kitty before, so I'm thinking he's made one big downgrade. Aguero to Giroud maybe?? Or Sanchez to someone?

I know everyone drones on about template teams, but there are a few too many differentials for my liking, this guy has been hovering about 30-40 points behind me for weeks!

Never ever focus on your rivals team. It will drive you mad and influence your decision making about your own team. Just make your team the best team.

Nah I'm not basing transfers on it - not yet at least! Can't help looking over my shoulder though... I'd say he has definitely opened up at least one more differential this week, although I'm hoping it will backfire on him!

Thanks mate. Indeed it does, but I am really keen to get Ivanovic in. Murphy's law dictates that I do a) and Sanchez is rested. Also, ML is my main concern and neither of the two lads I am chasing have Giroud of Caz and only one has Sanchez. From an ML perspective I think I am fairly safe to ditch Sanchez.

I understand that a hit for a keeper is normally a no-no, but have a strong feeling my other keeper (Myhill) is in for a hiding against Man City, and Guzan's dgw would soften the blow.

I had same dilemma last night.

In the end I went Foster to Ospina as I think Arsenal will keep more cleanies.

Villa's DGW isn't really that tempting when you look at it and they have a blank in GW34 same as Arsenal. Ospina looked better value for money.

Should add that my other keeper is Krul not Myhill, so was just looking to swap out Foster.

If it was Myhill, would you just take your lumps this gw?

If Myhill doesn't have a blank Gw34 I'd go for Ospina.

If my funds had allowed I'd actually have gone for Fabianski but I was £0.2 short and even though I had 2 FT I didn't want to use both just to upgrade a keeper.

Looking at it some more, now thinking Forster. Have the funds for it, but it's just that notion of taking a hit for a keeper. Would likely make it back this gw alone though. What do u think?

Forster is good pick, Stepan 42. Do that if you have the funds.

Guess Krul is not in for any better treatment against Arsenal either.

My FT this week was Cazorla to Mane. With Giroud and Bellerin as my Arsenal players, don't really fancy doubling up on defence. Good point about the blank regarding Guzan. Apart from this gw (which I'm still leery of Myhill) and one less trip to Utd, West Brom do have the better fixtures. Hmmm...

If anything the burnley game looks like a good game to rest Sanchez.. will be a week before the FA cup game and a week after his exertions over the international break and Pool

did hamman was suggesting he should use him as an impact sub, but i doubt rogers will. you might see lallana benched with markovic at rwb and sterling more central. maybe.

Kind of an interesting trend that caught my eye,

This week almost 50,000 managers (About 30% of all active managers) have ditched Aguero, while 27,000 (About 16% of all active managers, probably the other 14% had Silva already) have snapped up Silva at the same time. The strategy seems to be quite clear, isn't it ?

But question that remains is, how sensible a move is this ?

Will you also be doing the same this or the next week ?

            Sorry. miscalculated it.

3% and 1.6% it would be. I will be reposting it here in some time with corrected figures Innsie.

Really stuck with what to do with my 2 FT's, don't want to lose one if I can avoid it

        Myhill
        Clyne / Ivanovic / Rose
        Ozil / Hazard / Silva / Eriksen
        Austin / Aguero / Kane

        Foster / Phillips / Bellerin / Dawon
        0.0 itb

        Any suggestions please?

I like the Foster to Guzan but I'm 0.1 short 🙁

Toby looks good, but a little unsure about a player returning from long term injury
