Hugo Lloris is ruled out of Spurs’ trip to Burnley. Danny Welbeck has “a little chance” of making Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool, who welcomed back Daniel Sturridge to full training yesterday. Romelu Lukaku is rated as “50-50” ahead of the visit of Southampton, West Ham welcome back Winston Reid in defence, whilst City boast a clean bill of health for their Monday evening trip to Palace.

Danny Welbeck has ”a little chance” of recovering from a knee injury in time for Arsenal’s home clash with Liverpool. Arsene Wenger has ruled out a return for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who remains troubled by a hamstring problem. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Debuchy, Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshere are back in training – the weekend will come too soon for the first three, with Wenger uncertain over Wilshere’s availability.

Tim Sherwood has received a boost ahead of Villa’s trip to Old Trafford, with Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos, Tom Cleverley and Joe Cole all returning to training. Cleverley is ineligible to face his parent club, while Sherwood will assess the other three’s fitness before the weekend.

Everton have mixed news in attack with Arouna Kone available after returning to training, while strike partner Romelu Lukaku is rated as 50-50 and faces a fitness test to determine his availability. Fellow Belgian Kevin Mirallas is also set to be assessed ahead of the weekend, along with Darron Gibson and Steven Pienaar. Tony Hibbert and Bryan Oviedo are both ruled out through injury.

Steve Bruce has confirmed that both James Chester and Mo Diame are back in contention for Hull as they prepare to face Swansea, whilst Uruguayan Gaston Ramirez has also trained and is fit to play after recovering from a hamstring problem sustained on international duties.

Foxes defender Matt Upson has been ruled out of the weekend visit of West Ham after failing to recover from an Achilles problem and joins injured pair Dean Hammond and Zoumana Bakayogo on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Nigel Pearson has Liam Moore available for selection once again, with the defender returning from his loan spell with Brentford.

Brendan Rodgers is optimistic that England pair Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana will be available to face Arsenal, following their struggles with hip and groin injuries respectively. Sturridge made a return to full training yesterday, while Rodgers is hopeful that Lallana will be able to join the group today, ahead of the weekend.

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed City have no injury worries for the trip to Palace. Yaya Toure has recovered from the Achilles problem that forced him to miss the win over west Brom, whilst James Milner is also available after skipping England duties with a knee complaint.

QPR’s on-loan forward Mauro Zarate has returned to parent club West Ham to receive treatment on an injury. In yesterday morning’s press conference, Chris Ramsey revealed he was still waiting on Yun Suk-Young to return from international duties before assessing the left-back’s fitness.

Mark Hughes believes Jon Walters will be fit for Stoke despite picking up a calf knock in training, while Marc Muniesa, Philipp Wollscheid, Erik Pieters and Stephen Ireland are also back fit and available.

Garry Monk has ruled Tom Carroll out of the weekend through injury, while winger Jefferson Montero will be assessed after pulling up with a muscle strain on international duty. Elsewhere, Kyle Bartley and Leon Britton are available for Saturday, having overcome knee and back injuries respectively.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Hugo Lloris will miss the trip to Turf Moor with the leg injury sustained against Leicester, while Roberto Soldado remains a concern with a knee injury.

Sam Allardyce is set to welcome back Winston Reid for the trip to Leicester, with the defender having made a return to training. Elsewhere, the Hammers boss concedes that Enner Valencia is likely to miss out once more despite returning to light training after stepping up his recovery from a toe injury.

Newcastle boss John Carver welcomes back Mehdi Abeid to the squad, though the Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland comes “too soon” for Rolando Aarons, as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that Steven Davis is doubtful for the trip to Goodison Park with a groin problem. There is more positive news on long-term absentee Jay Rodriguez, with Koeman suggesting the forward could be fully fit in four-to-five weeks after stepping up his recovery.

Earlier this morning, Tony Pulis confirmed that Ben Foster and Callum McManaman are the only absentees for West Brom’s home clash with QPR.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Lads need some advice. Should I bring myhill for krul, wba I can see getting 3 cleanies in next 3. But already have ospina and not sure it's worth wasting a transfer on. Austin captaincy is tempting with myhill as if wba get a cleanie it will not be quite as painful. But ten need transfers to ship Austin out... Any advice, I am making this decision far more complicated then it needs to be...

Myhill sounds like he's just for 3 weeks. Would you want Costa for the double?

Ye to be honest he is 3 week plan and then ospina to play the remainder. i do, but finding it hard to fit him in. My team is
        Krul/ospina
        Naughton, berty, kosc, schlupp, Ivan
        Caz, silva, haz, Walters, Erik
        Aguero, Austin, Kane

Thinking this either Austin straight swap for Sakho and upgrading kosc to terry or Caz to fab.

        Or

Caz and Austin out for ki and Costa. Not sure if I want two budget mids though. What do you reckon?

Might be a bit early, but thoughts on these transfers next week (if no injuries):

Austin (CHE), Fonte (HUL) & Panti (CRY) ---> Costa (qpr), Alderweireld (HUL), Rose (LEI) for -4p?

Too risky to go with Myhill/Rose? Will try and get funds to possibly upgrade one before their bad fixtures.

just asking wads so bad about captaining a defender like ivan against an easy opponent at home?

the traditional thinking is that defender will lose CS points due to a goal..but attackers could easily blank still if they did not score or assist.

if u are very confident of a CS and if expected u get it then its like a striker goal already..not to mention the potential attacking points+BPS

    1. Somalion
      • 16 Years
      10 years, 12 months ago

There's nothing wrong with it, really.

The reason it isn't popular, at least in my opinion, is it only takes one cock up or one wonder strike for that CS to be lost. With a striker or a mid, they may miss a few shots but still get a couple of goals. If captaining a defender I'd want to be fairly certain they'll get attacking chances as well just to cover my tracks.

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 12 months ago

haah yeah surely its better to captain an attacker as u still have your hope high until the last second..unlike a defender a freak early goal and u might be staring at a captain blank

That's exactly it, it's about risk/reward really. Defenders, even in easy fixtures, seem to be fairly high risk and their potential rewards is not necessarily brilliant. (6 points, possibly with a bonus or two added in)

On the other hand, only 4 players have more points than Ivan this season, and he has scored 6 or more 17 times, which is more than even the top scorer Hazard (16) has, let alone some popular captains like Costa (12).

            1. Camp No No
              • 12 Years

That said, he aslo has more timeswhen he has played but scored less than 6 than Costa has (13 against 12), but the ratio of 6+ hauls to 6- hauls 17/13 is better than 12/12, and even 2- pointers per matches played 10/30 (Ivan) is equal to 8/24 (Costa).

                So many numbers 😛

I do accept someone like Ivan is a different case but that's what I was saying above about needing attacking returns as well to have me put the armband on them. The rest of what I say is more based just on the standard CS potential defenders, I absolutely agree that Ivan is another story.

Weren't you doing medicine? So, must be used to numbers and in particular ratios, right?

Anyway, yes, I got it that you accept defenders with attacking potential. Ivanovic has the nice factor that his big hauls consistently come against weak opponents, so he is very predictable in the best sense.

                • 12 Years
                10 years, 12 months ago

Haz is of course on his own level. Only 6/30 2 pointers, and yes, never below 2 points. The most sure captain choice there is: almost never lets you down completely, more than half of the time brings some positive (6+) return) and occasionally explodes to great hauls.

Kane has been more explosive: starting from when he became a starter, he's matched Hazard to 7 double hauls over season in just 19 matches, also with about the same rate of 6+ matches at 11/19, but also seven 2- matches in that 19 GW time).

Another one worth a mention is Giroud. Only counting matches in which he has played 60+ minutes (as we do with Kane and Hazard, Kane would lose to Hazard loudly otherwise), Giroud has brought 6+ points with an amazing rate of 8/13, and only once was it a 6-pointer, 4 being double hauls. So, when he has not been injured, sent off, or started on bench, that is _in recent months_, Giroud has scored double hauls at a rate almost double to that of Hazard and 6+ points with a ratio superior to even Kane and Ivanovic.

So, if Giroud can stay fit, he may prove to be the most certain captain to make you constantly happy (getting you 6+ points more often than anybody else). He has a worse rate of 2- pointers (even counting only 60+ min matches), 3/13, which is significantly higher than 6/30, but Haz's consistency of providing 3+ points is largely due to him getting that CS point as a midfielder, and thus it is of more value to get those 6+ points more often, than to occasionally have 3 rather than 2 points at time of blanking. Of course, there's the additional negative factor that Giroud takes much more yellow cards than Haz, so that will drop some points too.

I think the school of thought is that while a defender can only get one clean sheet an attacker can easily be involved in more than one goal.

A defender with attacking threat especially over a double game week is a slightly different proposition.

Defenders with strong attacking stats like Baines and Ivanovic are certainly considerable captaincy options given an easy fixture. You just have to be sure _what_ makes an easy fixture for them.

      AD.

Baird cameo 1 point chance and Liverpool pretty decent offensively.

Hmm this could be an option, does seem very unlikely Arsenal will keep a clean sheet. Kosc at corners with no Skrtl about could be dangerous though.

That's a good point. In that case is lean towards AB. I fancy Everton to score, looking decent offensively.

I dont think it can be predicted. Though I would say unliekly with Silva nailed on and Navas doing reasonably well recently and Milner always doing well.

Tricky. Mane or Eriksen. Mane as Southampton have been suspect going forward, Eriksen because of form.

Tempted to captain Aguero now. Great captain differential.

With rank of 15k (and I was at 4k) is it worth to take risky decisions?
