Manchester City were left to rue their misses chances as Sergio Aguero came up short for the fifth week in succession at Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, Glenn Murray’s form under the stewardship of Eagles boss Alan Pardew is becoming ever-more difficult to pass up.

City’s title dream shattered by brilliant Palace

Manchester City’s hopes of securing back-to-back Premier League titles have all but disappeared following a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession (74%) and dominating with regards to attempts on goal (22 to Palace’s five), the visitors’ erratic shooting means that Julian Speroni was only forced to attempt one more save (four) than Joe Hart (three).

Sergio Aguero, once again, was conspicuous in his impotency: the Argentine managed nine shots at West Bromwich Albion last Gameweek but could only fashion three attempts on goal against Alan Pardew’s outfit, with just one of these efforts testing Speroni. Coming off the back of blanks in each of the past five Gameweeks, Aguero’s tally of three goals in 11 outings since returning from injury makes a mockery of his 12.6 price tag and his lack of form is of real concern as the Sky Blues prepare to lock horns with a United defence that’s conceded a mere two goals in their previous five outings. Nonetheless, Aguero’s 25% ownership will be loath to cash in on the dormant big-hitter for fear of him delivering strong attacking returns in three favourable home ties (WHU, AVL, QPR) in the four matches following the Manchester derby.

Yaye Toure’s first goal in five starts proved insufficient to inspire a City comeback. The Ivory Coast international offered a far greater goal threat than in previous matches, though, attempting double the amount of shots (eight) than any other midfielder in the league during Gameweek 31. Moreover, Toure more than doubled his tally of shots from his previous four starts. Despite the above-mentioned run of agreeable home fixtures, potential investors will likely need to see more from the 10.7-priced midfielder with funds at a premium ahead of a tantalising double Gameweek 34 for Chelsea.

David Silva, meanwhile, failed to register a goal or an assist but proved as influential as ever in City’s build-up play. The Spanish created the third most chances (four) of any midfielder, with fellow wide man Jesus Navas ranked second with six.

Elsewhere in the City camp, manager Manuel Pellegrini enacted five changes from the XI that cruised past a ten-man Baggies side last time out, drafting in Edin Dzeko, Bacary Sagna, Martin Demichelis, Yaya Toure and Fernandinho for Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala, Frank Lampard, Fernando and Wilfried Bony.

Bony missed out against the Eagles by virtue of an ankle knock sustained in training, rendering him a doubt for the Red Devils clash this Sunday. In his absence, Edin Dzeko was unable to stake a serious claim for a run of starts alongside lead striker Aguero, failing to register a single attempt on goal and winning just two aerial duels throughout his 65-minute stint.

Nine points adrift of Chelsea at the summit following three losses in their last five matches, City’s title aspirations have been relegated to a pipe dream. That being said, their rivalry with United and the peripheral threat of slipping out of the Champions League berths should still motivate Pellegrini’s men in the concluding stages of this campaign, with those upcoming Etihad encounters boosting their chances of clinching second spot at least.

Murray takes flight as Eagles seal historic win

Glenn Murray bagged a goal and assist for the second week running as Palace ran out 2-1 victors over the champions. The ex-Brighton forward has been a revelation since being re-instated by Pardew, notching five goals and two assists in five appearances – including a 12-minute cameo against Arsenal in Gameweek 26. What’s more, netting against the Gunners and City has shown he’s no flat-track bully and is capable of causing problems against the league’s more robust rearguards.

Murray’s recent form is inevitably set to trigger a substantial increase on the 5.1-priced striker’s 0.1% ownership. Palace’s next trio of fixtures (sun, WBA, HUL) should afford the resurgent frontman with ample opportunity to further build upon his five-goal haul this term as the London club search for their fourth win on the trot. Subsequent match-ups against Chelsea, United and Liverpool betweeen Gameweek 35 and 37 present a sterner test of his credentials, however.

Jason Puncheon’s expertly placed free kick marked his first attacking returns since a hat-trick of assists against West Ham four matches ago. Having shed 52,000 owners in the intervening Gameweeks, Puncheon could well invite new investment in light of Palace’s enticing short-term schedule as Pardew’s side look to continue their momentum and clinch a place in the top half of the table.

    A) sturridge

    c) murray

    D) gomis

    e) remy

close between murray and remy I reckon. murray has that nice attacking three behind him now.
sturridge fitness too dodgy. ings is good but burnley is a bit scrap. gomis not a great goalscorer

ye exactly and pardew seems to be a big fan, class fixtures in next 3 as well. ings tempted me as burnley have great run after the next two fixtures. i thought gomis as i dont own siggy etc and i think he is finding form. ye i agree with all what you have said, its really between murray and remy... remy and pva or terry and murray are the options i reckon as i need to get naughton out now...

Remy mainly. I think with Remy though you have to factor in rotation - either with Drogba or with Costa when back. The key though is that he is a player than can do well as a substitute. It makes him tricky to captain, but I think the risk of rotation doesn't effect him too much. I'd happily take 20 minutes of Remy coming on against a tired side against most other strikers in that price range who play 90 mins.

No clear captains for me his week. Figure these are my options. Any votes appreciated:

    1) Aguero (C) (mun) + save FT for the blank/double
    2) Sanchez/Giroud (C) (bur) + save FT (which?)
    3) Eriksen > Sterling (C) (NEW)
    4) Austin > Kane (C)

Tempted by option 2 and Giroud as it stands. Burnley are organised but feel they will be targeting their other fixtures for their Ws frankly and might be overwhelmed by a form Arsenal attacking unit. And my team is in dire need of that FT.

Feel like option 4 might get the popular vote here but combination of Villa scrapping tooth and nail + Spurs heads seemingly well and truly dropped, means Kane(c) not exactly striking fear into me.

    Cheers any and all

sold alexis. worked out well. got siggy and benteke (c) if I hadn't sold him i'd have captained kane or kun so pretty sure I'm ahead.
the plan was to get giroud this gw. though its just occurred to me I can do tekkers/eriksen to remy/sanchez.
    so
    1) eriksen (AVL) and giroud (but)
    or
    2) alexis (but) and remy (qpr) -4
    ?

    Fabianski
    Ivan // Clyne // Schlupp // Wolls // Dawson
    Siggy // Haz // Eriksen
    Kane // Kun

    Panti // Sanchez // Giroud // Phillips

A high ownership of Naughton (on here anyway) so can we start a "who to repalce Naughton" with discussion, saves the question being asked all day all week.

    I'll go first....

Bellerin for me I think, has a DGW coming, I have space to bench him for the Blank.
Schlupp - DGW sooner than Arsenal's DGW, so might go Naughton>Schlupp>Bellerin
Rose - if fit has been ok so far, but TOT defence does seem a bit leaky.

If I get rid of Terry this week (to allow me to bring in Remy) who would you prefer?

    A) Sakho (NEW, hull, wba, QPR, che, CRY, stk)

    B) Williams (EVE, lei, new, STK, ars, MCI, cry)

Both are BAP hogs and Williams is 0.1 more expensive (which doesn't make much difference, as I have 5.4 ITB haha)

I have Ivan/Terry/Haz. If I plan to get in Remy for Austin then I'll get rid of Terry.

Now to answer the question? 😀

If Remy turns out to be the best Austin replacement (pending on Costa news) then I'll bring him in.

So do you think A or B?

Sakho if you have decent backup def for their possible blank.

Yeah, he does have a possible blank 😛

I should have suitable backup, though.

I don't actually, although I need to ship Bellerin in 33 anyway so I can find a replacement then.

        Cheers.

If be tempted to stick with terry and look elsewhere but sakho of the 2, assuming you can get a team out 33 if they blank per kuqi response

Cheers mate. Only reason I'll get rid of Terry (I have Ivan as well, by the way) is that Remy could well be the best Austin replacement depending on Costa news.

        We'll see though.

Even with double Chelsea defence (who have blanked in the last three weeks)?

Sakho could be good, look out for Liverpool blank though.
I'd consider Jagielka, Sclupp, Jones or Rojo as well

    A) Giroud
    B) Kane
    C) Aguero

    Guzan
    Bertrand Terry Koscielny
    Cazorla Eriksen Hazard Silva
    Aguero Austin Kane
    Subs: Hamer Rose Phillips Bruce

Im in a deep hole with 5 players with blank in GW33, where to start
Currently thinking Austin+Guzan out, agree or other suggestion?

      Me too.

      Bellerin, Giroud, Sanchez, Austin, Phillips......

In your case bench Kos and transfer Guzan, Austin and Caz for a hit.

Hadn't considered this until now, but if we get confirmation of a LIV DGW in GW34, I think this week could be the week to WC, since most of us don't have many/any LIV players and they have a decent GW32/33 before the GW34 double.

But if they have a DGW34 they don't get to play GW33...

If you already had 11 starting GW 33 AND you have 2 FTs this week would you just get Giroud in for Austin? Or would you get a stop gap replacement like Murray/Remy? would still have 2 FTs to add in a player or two for GW 33 if required(for Bellerin/Phillips)

    1. 50 Shades Oshea
      • 12 Years

i would have a stop gap personally, my plan is to get murray or remy and then bring giroud in 35

      Contemplating the same with Benteke…
But i just have 1 FT…and Burnley just blanked City and Tott

I think Giroud will fall at least 0.1 before his blank (casuals), so no point in getting him even if you have a full squad.

ok guys which combo would you prefer.

    A) remy and duff/pva

    B) murray and terry/toby a- got berty already, but having toby allows me to upgrade walters to siggy.

    thanks
