Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives a little later than usual this Friday afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With 44% of the votes cast, Harry Kane is the runaway leader this week as Spurs prepare to entertain Villa at the Lane. The youngster has produced eight goals and two assists in his six home appearances in 2015, with three sets of double-figures (18, 12, 17) included over that run. Bearing in mind that Villa have a single clean sheet in 12 league outings, Kane owners will be expecting a return to form after he blanked in two of the last three Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard is next in line as Chelsea make their way to London neighbours QPR. The Belgian has scored in five of his last six away appearances and squares up to a defence that’s conceded at least twice in all but one of the last seven matches. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that Hazard is currently backed by just 17% of the voters.

Arsenal pair Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have been selected by 8% and 5% respectively for the trip to Burnley. The Clarets defence have kept out City and Spurs in their last two home matches and have certainly tightened up, though face a tough task to keep Giroud at bay – the Frenchman has scored in eight of his last nine league starts. Sanchez, meanwhile, has already served up a 16-point haul against the Clarets this season and rolls up to Turf Moor on the back of a 13-point return against Liverpool last weekend as the Gunners strengthen their claim for a top two finish.

Four goals in his last six outings earns Bafetimbi Gomis 4% backing in this week’s Poll. The Swansea forward has belatedly found his form but faces a resurgent Everton side at the Liberty, with the Toffees conceding just once in their previous three fixtures.

Sergio Aguero and Loic Remy have been selected by just 3% ahead of trips to United and QPR respectively. Given that United have only conceded more than one goal on just two occasions from Gameweek 6 onwards, Aguero faces a tough task to arrest a run of form which has seen him return a single assist in the last five Gameweeks. Remy’s back-to-back winners for Chelsea should earn him a start in Diego Costa’s absence as the league leaders travel to a QPR side that has lost each of their last five at Loftus Road and boasts the worst defensive record in the top-flight.

Further down, the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Glenn Murray could well emerge as real differentials for those willing to gamble. Sturridge has collected just 2% of votes ahead of Monday’s home encounter with a Newcastle side that has managed two clean sheets in their last 19 league encounters. Murray’s five goals and two assists in the last five suggests he’s one to watch as Palace seek a fifth win in six away to struggling Sunderland.

Will Remy get 180 in the next 2 GWs?

    Or 120? Or even less?

Reckon he'll start next two, around 140-160mins total and 120mins in DGW.

That'll do me......especially as only other option is cheese string Sturridge, who also has a blank.

      Keeping Aguero & Kane

              Hazard, Remy & Ivanovic
              Skrtel, Courtinho, Hendo

              For a hit.

No desire for Hull or Leicester players

Fabs, Terry, Sterling, Sturridge & Migs only others I'd consider but not convinced and all more expensive...

Means can keep Silva, Aguero, Kane all who have good fixtures and I still think can score as big as a DGW from Hull or Leicester...

Jose tends to bring Drogba on at somewhere between 72 mins and 80 mins. Your estimate is probably slightly low but it shouldn't be far away from that.

Based on these four player types what's the best formation that my side should use for a 5 a side football tournament we have next week: I'm not expecting the opposition to be the strongest due to them all living pretty sedentary lifestyles and IMO we should be one of the better teams in t

Player 1- Our most skillful player, very composed on the ball, has an excellent long shot...not the quickest, has the worst work ethic but definitely our best player

Player 2 (me) best pass and move footballer in the team, I'll probably be the one who assists most of the goals, but I'm like 2 stone overweight not the most agile, but until I get tired I'll always be there to show for the ball

Player 3 - Probably the guy who will play up front, decent finisher, not very liable to track back, pretty skilful...tendency for the unexpected

Player 4 - Decent long range shot, likes to play pretty simple, the player most likely to get sent off...not the fittest but works very hard.

At the moment I was thinking this

    GK

    Player 1

    Player 2 (me) Player 4

    Player 3

Player 1 has to be in midfield. Player 4 in defence

You all sound like offensive type players?! I
t's well known that 5 defenders beats 5 attackers in these things as the latter can't be arsed to get back.....

      • 11 Years
      10 years, 11 months ago

why is the player (player 1) with the worst work ethic playing as defender. I'd put player 4 in defence if he plays simple and has good work ethic.

Put player 1 and 2 in the middle

Hard to have positions - you interchange so much and you can't afford to have a guy up front not tracking back. You may have guys that are naturally happy on left or right side - I'd allow for that. The key is getting behind the ball when you lose it and man to man marking is usually easiest to implement

Kun to Rooney could work out but you will lose out on Kun (c) next week. Burnley are strong at home, especially against the big teams so tekkers against a poor Spurs defence just as likely to get points..

Unless you have a WC to play, best to save transfers imo

Best fifth mid, under 5, that doesn't have a blank next GW?

    Is Leicester an option? Mahrez?

    Or stay clear?

      Mahrez, Cambiasso or Boyd imo

Cambiasso is looking better than Mahrez at the moment. Neither are very exciting options though. Jedinak is 5 million so if he is back in the team could be an option

I can have Sturridge, Hazard, Fabregas, Henderson & Moreno without a hit for the double. You reckon a Chelsea defender is worth a hit for ars lei? I can't really see many pts there for a defender...

Ivanhoe has the attacking side to his game also.....or Terry?

It would have to be Terry/Cahill. Ivan is out of range for me. Might give it a miss.

The only way it would be worth it is if they scored..clean sheets are really something I would bank on. I don't think it'd be worth the hit. Just my opinion though!

well that's true. I guess the best thing to do would be to look at the stats and see how likely it is to occur over a DGW.. they will want to be sealing the deal on the league soon so.. could bode well I guess

Mourinho said Costa can play four GWs (normal), three (a little below what He expected) or five (more than he expected) in the last eight games.

So Costa is out for at least three GWs with QPR, Man Utd and Arsenal, probably Leicester too.

Since when we started trusting Mourinho's comments regarding Costa's fitness? 😉

    My 2 FT this week

    Krul ----> Davis
    Austin ---> Murray

Hopefully it pays off now 😕

Clearly I need to start adding some Pool, right? Even with GW33 blank. What to do with this lot?

    Myhill (Pants)
Ivan / Berty / Dawson (Kosc / Baird)
Haz / Sanchez / Silva / Mane (Boyd)
    Kane / Kun / Austin
    2 FT .1 ITB

    A) Mane > Henderson (Have 2 FT the following GW)
    B) Mane + Kosc > Henderson + Moreno (prefer Skrtel but won't play next 2 GWs)
    C) Kosc > DGW defender
    D) Your thoughts

    Last try
    Team linked
    WC available for GW34

Do i replace Guzan now for Mignolet and play Krul next week?
    or
Save and do Benteke-Boyd (bench Coutinho) for probably a City player (Aguero or Silva) and another?

    Thoughts?
