Our duel with Paddy this week has us investing faith in Chelsea’s stand-in striker, Arsenal’s Chilean livewire and Manchester United’s Spanish playmaker.

With Diego Costa out of contention for the time being, it falls upon Loic Remy to shoulder the goal scoring responsibility for Chelsea. The French marksman has taken up the mantle in the Blues’ last two fixtures, bagging the winners against Hull City and Stoke City. Couple this with the fact that Jose Mourinho’s men have recorded shut-outs in five of their last nine home clashes and we’re willing to take up Paddy’s 9/1 odds on Remy to score two or more goals and Chelsea to keep a clean sheet and part with our first £3.

Our second, and favourite, wager of the week takes us across the capital to North London. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez rifled a 20-yard strike past the flailing arms of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet last Gameweek and looks primed to keep Burnley’s rearguard busy when the Gunners travel to Turf Moor this evening. Considering that the Clarets have netted just one goal in their previous five outings, we’re swayed by Paddy’s 12/1 offer on Sanchez to score two ore more goals and Arsenal to keep a clean sheet, parting with another £4.

The Manchester derby is the destination of our final bet, with Red Devils midfielder Juan Mata piquing our interest in light of his brace against Liverpool in Gameweek 30. Manchester City’s defence has been breached in every one of their last seven road matches, while United have recorded three shut-outs in their last five. All things considered, Paddy’s 10/1 offer on Mata to score and Manchester United to keep a clean sheet looks like a fine source of investment for our remaining £3.

that's not a nice decision to have to make. it's between caz, erik and austin for me. caz is trying but doesn't inspire me. erik always worries me, but spurs score well in this fixture, and austin plays chelsea.

    Last minute captain stat attack!

This week I'm going to just boil it down to Kane and Hazard. There's certainly other options this week - Aguero, Sanchez, Giroud to name a few but I think for most people its coming down to one of Harry or Eden.

As always, this will be some basic stats to try and help those that are making that last minute decision.

    PPG Season (60+ mins)

    Kane - 7.2 (21 games)
    Hazard - 6.4 (30 games)

    PPG form (last 5 games)

    Kane - 7.2
    Hazard - 8.4

PPG last 5 games (Home - Kane / Away - Hazard)

    Kane - 7.4
    Hazard - 7.8

    Double digit hauls

    Kane - 7 (2 of 15+)
    Hazard - 8 (none of 15+)

Goals conceded by opposition (last 5 games)

    Villa (away) - 11
    QPR (home) - 9

A couple of things to read from this. Both of these players have been extremely consistent over the season. Whether you look at the full season, last 5 games or last 5 home games Kane is in and around 7.2~ PPG which is amazing.

Hazard is just ahead in last 5 away/home games and even further ahead over the last 5 games so is the man in form right now (although they're both doing okay!)

One thing I did notice about Kane is - in the last 5 games he's blanked 3 times (other 2 games did include 5 goals!). Prior to this he only blanked twice in 11 games! So maybe the consistency will start to dry up....

Kane has also managed to only get one less double digit haul in 9 less games and also has two big scores of more than 15 compared to Hazard's zero.

I think for those of us with Hazard since GW1 we've been waiting for that big game week where he scores a brace and gets an assist or similar and it just hasn't come. Doesn't mean we can complain about his points total but maybe Kane has the higher ceiling for points?

For what it's worth - I'm on Kane. Primarily because he was my choice at the beginning of the week and I don't want to give myself a headache. Hopefully these stats will at least help you stick to the choice you've already made 🙂

    Who will you go for?

Yeah - knew there'd be a few around but know the majority will be looking at the two I've mentioned.

Think this week might actually be a decent week for Aguero weirdly enough. If they switch to 1 up front it could be gold.

But next week City will be back to 4-2-2-2.

This is the week for Aguero (if there is one). City may well go 4-2-3-1 and Aguero has a better scoring record against United than against any other PL team other than Spurs. 6 goals in 6 games to be precise.

Must admit I didn't see the Chelsea game but only heard good things. Kane didn't look great against Burnley but neither did the whole Spurs or Man City team so maybe Burnley have just been defensively sound.

I'm hoping Kane can score against what is a fairly poor Villa defence. Not like QPRs is any better though.....

The Sherwood factor? He's clearly got something going on but I'm not sure even he knows what it is, and I'm fairly sure it's not got anything to do with setting up a team to defend. He's even said as much himself, his plan is essentially for them (aka Benteke) to score more than they concede.

      @ Andy

I'd offer some constructive criticism (and it is really meant that way)...

The stats you have used are all true, I have no doubt. But what is missing (for me) is any interpretation, any judgement being exercised about current circumstances, current trends and these specific games. I know it's not what you aim to do but without that what do these stats tell you really? Only that both are good players.

      Some examples:

      1. What has been the effect on Kane of his first England caps and all the plaudits he got after scoring in 70 seconds, then travelling to Italy for a big international game the likes of which is new to him? He is 21, has it gone to his head? Is he still focused at Spurs as he was before? Reports said he was "lacklustre" last weekend. Is this the reason? Was he tired?
      2. Pocchetino made him captain last weekend. Why? Did that make his focus better or worse?
      3. Are Spurs in suffering post League Cup Final syndrome? Many teams that have reached the League Cup Final experience a tailing-off in form afterwards. Spurs won't make the top 4 now but will qualify for Europe. Do they have much to play for? Has motivation been affected?
      4. Will Villa attack the game or attempt solid defence and hope to nick a goal? What will QPR do? Which is likely to be the highest scoring game?
      5. What is losing Costa going to do to Chelsea's mindset? Will they stay the same? Will they focus back on defensive solidity? Will they play with less risk? More risk?
      6. How will QPR handle Hazard? Isla and Phillips will double up (almost a given) but how good is Phillips defensively? Does he track back well? How often will Hazard get 1 on 1 with Isla?
      7. Which side (Chelsea or Spurs) is more likely to get a penalty in these two games?

These are the types of question that help in the exercise of judgement and I think the answers to them (or at least the consideration of them) would be more indicative than the happenstance of PPG home and away which are very likely totally coincidental. Earlier in the season people were saying that Hazard could only score FPL points at Stamford Bridge. More recently I was reading people commenting on how he was scoring more away.

There is nothing in statistics like that usually - players like Hazard don't freeze up at away grounds. But over a short period you can seem to detect trends that aren't really there. To know if those things mean anything you have to try to understand why they are happening, not just record that they have been happening and presume that they will continue to do so.

We need judgement more than we need statistics. 😉

This is meant as constructive feedback and is offered with good intention. I had better repeat that because I will get an almighty amount of flak for it otherwise (and maybe will anyway).

Hi guys, I've barely had time to think about this for a couple of weeks now - hence 2FT's so spend.

Would be grateful of some last minute advice? Need to use 1 transfer minimum.

    Panti
    Clyne / Pva / Ivan
    Haz / Sanchez / Eriksen / Silva
    Kane / Kun / Austin
    (Krul / Bruce / Cork / Wasi)

    2 FT & 1.1m itb
    A) Austin -> Remy (doubt he'll start all games with Drogba in the mix)

Benteke + Eriksen > Murray + Hazard -4 (gives me 10 for GW33 discounting Baird but top 10 of my league all have Hazard)

    Benteke + Baird > Remy + Schlupp -4 (gives me 11 for GW33 + both DGW in GW34)

    Which one?

I doubt it, but then again Markovic has played there...very one-footed with his passing from what I've seen of him.

Very much doubt it. I think he's pretty safe, although perhaps shouldn't be. Probably best to wait until after the blank to get him (Monday's game and the Cup Semi should give us a better indication).

A switch to a back 4 would all but cement his spot imo.

Moreno LWB + Ibe RWB is way better than Ibe LWB + Johnson RWB.

He can play there (LWB), but I expect Johnson to be drop.
