Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen grab a goal apiece as Liverpool recover from back-to-back losses to sweep aside Newcastle at Anfield. The Magpies, meanwhile, turn in another disappointing display and have now tasted defeat in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

Sterling on target in routine Reds win

Raheem Sterling netted his first goal in six outings as Liverpool cruised past a toothless Newcastle side. The Reds starlet shifted the ball across right-back Ryan Taylor on the left flank and guided a curling finish beyond the reach of Tim Krul. Sterling’s return to form arrives at an opportune time for his 30% ownership as the Merseysiders prepare to embark upon their first double Gameweek (wba, hull) after they sit out Gameweek 33. Joe Allen was on hand to cement the three points in the 70th minute, notching his first goal in two seasons.

Jordan Henderson (6.7) picked up the assist for Sterling’s (8.5) opener and has now delivered attacking returns in five of his previous six starts, tallying four goals and two assists in the process. Considering he sits just three points (144) behind Sterling (147) in the midfield standings, boasts superior form and costs 1.8 less, the former Sunderland man is poised for a surge in ownership once the Reds resume league action.

Prior to their Arsenal capitulation, Liverpool were unbeaten in their previous six road matches, with five wins and one draw to their name. Furthermore, both the Tigers (eight) and the Baggies (ten) have shipped plenty of goals in the past three Gameweeks, encouraging Fantasy managers to pursue multiple routes into Liverpool’s squad for Gameweek 34.

Brendan Rodgers named two changes from the XI that triumphed over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, with Emre Can and Jordon Ibe replacing the injured Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge. Philippe Coutinho was tasked with leading the line, with Sterling lining up on the left wing as the Reds boss continued with the 4-3-3 formation rolled out at Blackburn last midweek.

Rodgers revealed after the Tyneside clash that Sturridge could be fit for the weekend, but Sakho is set to be sidelined for three to four weeks. Sturridge’s fitness is clearly a key talking point as the double approaches, yet unless he features heavily in the their FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa on Sunday, few managers will fancy investing in the 11.1-priced forward without the security of starts, with the midfield looking the safest option.

Last night’s clean sheet served a reminder of Liverpool’s rearguard as a source of coverage, with eight shut-outs in 12 outings illustrating their newfound resilience. Martin Skrtel’s return for Gameweek 34 either spells the end of Dejan Lovren’s run in the side or allows Rodgers to revert back to the 3-4-3 formation that served him well during their unbeaten streak.

Sissoko sees red as Magpies wilt

Newcastle plummeted to a fifth straight defeat as they struggled to carve out any meaningful chances at Anfield. The Toon have registered just one goal in four Gameweeks since Papiss Cisse picked up a lengthy ban for his involvement in a spitting altercation with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, with the Senegalese frontman still set to serve three more matches on his suspension (TOT, SWA, lei).

The Magpies’ upcoming schedule offers hope that manager John Carver can arrest their woeful run of losses, however. Four of their remaining six matches are at St James’ Park (TOT, SWA, WBA, WHU), while the remaining two (lei, qpr) are trips to sides currently residing in the bottom three.

Moussa Sissoko was handed a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Lucas Leiva. Having received a red card earlier in the campaign, the France international will serve a two-match ban and sits out home ties against Spurs and Swansea. The fact that Sissoko is the only player to score in any of the last five Gameweeks emphasises Carver’s mounting problems for the run-in.

I really don't know, I'm confused atm, I could go mental for a -8 spread out over 2 weeks and then WC straight after to set myself for the rest of the season. gw37 is basically 3 arsenal which can easily be achieved. season defining move i think

    Davis
    McAuley Terry Clyne
    Silva Eriksen Haz Mane
    Kane Giroud Kun

2FT and a WC for next week so can take a couple of punts. Definitely set on Giroud > Murray, best option for the other FT?

    B. Naughton, Coutinho > Coleman, Puncheon (-4)

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic
The Rough with the Smooth – looking for your Gameweek 32 tales of joy and woe.

We are looking for your input for our new regular community article. Called The Rough with the Smooth we want to hear about exceptional moves of success or failure for the Gameweek gone by.

So to get this rolling I’m looking for a few words from you about a particular move or set of moves you made in Gameweek 32 that led to incredible success or failure. This could include drafting in Sturridge or Remy (that's me!), or it could include investing in Aaron Ramsey (that's me too!). Whether you are an Aguero captainer or a Clyne owner we want to hear from you.

For those interested please email me your tale of woe or jubilation at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk by the deadline of 10am tomorrow (Wed) or leave your tales here.

We are looking for short answers to the following
    1. What was your move of success or failure?
    2. What effect did it have on your rank?
    3. What have you learned from the move?

      1. Remy in for Costa, and captained! Disaster. Kane vice captain, second disaster! But keeping faith with Aguero worked out well, and Fellaini, Bertrand, Koscielny and Sterling came good for me too.

      2. Edged up about 26k after all.

      3. Who could have predicted Remy getting injured in training. I think the move will pay off over GW33 and DGW34, then I will switch to Giroud anyway for the Arsenal double.

      2. Got saved by Kane blank, Remy injury, etc. plus had Hazard (vc)
      3. There's a difference between a good punt and wishful thinking.

Overall, got my 9th green arrow in the 10 weeks I have been a FFS follower and member. Can't complain but annoyed at losing a transfer.

      1. All the top dogs were touting Remy as the man to get in, I wasn't convinced. I went through the members stats and decided Murray was the very clear favourite, so transferred him in and started with a bang.
The strong advice I should have listened to however is do not bench Aguero for Dawson.
      2. This affected my rank significantly. I am notoriously consistent, but that means tiny rises, and with 58, gw 32 was no different, another small green instead of a big one.
      3. Never bench an attacker for a defender. Sure you could get an extra 4 points from a CS, but the attacker, (especially when his name is Aguero) can really punish you.

GW 31: Decided on Kane (c) over Austin, and last minute decision to do Bellerin > McAuley and keep Kun, Moses over Benteke, Philips --> 47p lost
GW 32: going Remy over Murray --> 14p lost

I don't see the point of these type of posts at all. You didn't 'lose' anything, you never had those points. And trying to work out how many ranking places you 'lost' is even more pointless - you aren't the only player to have made wrong calls over those GWs. You can't just work out how many points you would be on if you'd done this or that, and then think that you can work out your 'real' ranking based on that score - what if every other player made the right calls too? Then you'd be ranked just about where you are now...

          • 16 Years

          1. I just answered the question. I know that those moves were my own fault. I know that it is a hypthetical quote, but that's what it is all about in FPL. I had enough luck over my first 4-5 years, so don't complain at all. Just wanted to let out steam. Sorry if you feel assaulted. Wasn't meant to...

          2. I went down from 70k to 110k, so that's 40k lost as far as I can calculate

          1. Fitzy.
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 10 months ago

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to be that harsh and was probably talking more about general 'what-if' type posts which I've been guilty of in the past myself. My mistake on the 40k drop, thought you were just theorising on where you'd be ranked if you'd made the alternate moves.

I totally agree with MacFitzy here (and don't want to be harsh to PT) but everyone can say if only I made x transfer that I was considering all week or if only I captained y over z. This is the nature of the beast and I'm sure we all have similar hard luck stories but at the end of the day you make your moves based on what you think will get you most points and if it turns out this was a suboptimal move you're going to suffer

      Austin + Naughton -> Murray + Moreno.

Big impact as to be expected, has helped me continue my last gasp rise through the top 100k having being stuck outside it for weeks on end.

What I've learned is that if you genuinely don't believe a player to be a good option (Remy) then don't bother with them. I was always bringing in Murray as his form is impeccable. Moreno was a case of making early dgw plans and taking advantage of a nice fixture (instead of waiting for Skrtel to return, for example.)

      1. I used my 2 FTs to bring in Sturridge AND Remy
      2. I can't actually bring myself to login to FPL to see the damage
      3. The Remy injury couldn't have been predicted but Sturridge is always an injury gamble. If I were a more superstitious person, I'd conclude that I brought the whole thing on myself (and others) by celebrating Giroud's Saturday blank which seemed to vindicate my transfers.

      1) Move of failure - Berahino over Murray, success, keeping my other FT
      2) still got a green thanks to Aguero
      3) I have learnt to always follow my gut instinct and don't bother looking at stats as it's better to go with you gut and have it fail, than not go with it and have a Murray situation

Was debating either Murray and Moreno in for Austin and Naughton or just a straight swap for Austin to Remy.

Obviously went with the latter, cost myself about 20 points there.

Was on 13 points after the Saturday, then Remy didn't start. Brutal week.

      2. What effect did it have on your rank? 8,210 to 12,931
      3. What have you learned from the move? Keep the faith!

On Saturday morning I decided to make the following transfer: Aguero OUT, Remy IN.

Even more painful after captaining Aguero for week after week and consistently getting 4 points.

      1. (a) Played Krul and benched Guzan
      (b) Sold Koscielny and replaced him with Clyne
      (c) Captained Kane instead of Hazard.

      2. Ended my sequence of 6 straight greens, eliminated from Last Man Standing by 2 points,
and lost my PP Cup match by 4 points, 🙁 - but through to the next round of the Members Cup. 🙂

      3. (a) It was a 50-50 call which could have gone either way
      (b) Koscielny was subject to a late fitness test and had a poor away record, and no-one expected Clyne to be rested
      (c) Another close call, and over 60% of the top 10k did the same thing.

      1. My goalkeepers are Panti and Heaton. Almost without fail, I've played the wrong one most 2015, rotating by fixture difficulty. This week: who would have thought that playing Arsenal would leave you 3 points better off than at home to Palace?
      2. Bit of a shocker this week otherwise - just glad I held onto Aguero ("big game player" I told myself), so the red arrow wasn't so bad.
      3. Get rid of both keepers on my WC!

1.) Failure. My second worst gameweek rank of the season at 2.6m. Transferred Austin --> Remy instead of Naughton --> Aldeweireld/Terry thinking that I'd have 3 playing defenders in Clyne, Dawson and Ivanovic. Also captained Kane even though the stats said otherwise. I had 9 points from 7 players on Saturday and it was looking very bleak!
2.) Dropped from 1.8k to 2.8k and 17 points away from breaking the top 1k and a glimmer of hope for my mini league rivals.
3.) Strengthen your bench for tail end of the season. Unpredictable lineups due to injuries, rotation and tactical tweaks from clubs with smaller squads lead to even the most nailed on players missing a game here and there.

      1) After 3 weeks of 2pt captain returns from Aguero I passed the Captain's armband to Kane. Now on a run of 4 straight weeks with a 2pt Captain. This has delivered 8 points (by comparison the two players I have used as captain during these weeks have scored 18pts (Aguero) and 25 pts (Kane) during the period.
      2) Dropped from 2.1k to £4.5k
      3) Captain Aguero in the 'hard' games and captain anyone else in the 'easy' matches

      1. Brining in Gomis and captaining Kane
      2. Moved up for 2k places, but it could be even better if I brought Murray or captained Hazard or Kun

      1. What was your move of success or failure?
I did Naughton to Duff prematurely...
Then sold Austin to get Remy in for a hit.

      Which went well.

Duff came on as an auto-sub for Clyne...

      2. What effect did it have on your rank?

      Almost a grey arrow.

      3. What have you learned from the move?
Jose Mourinho is now using diversion tactics by saying Costa is injured when in fact Remy is injured... So many mind games...

Or that players are human beings who get injured...

Woe: Captaining Kane and playing Pants against any team with a bit of pace up front. Second red arrow in as many weeks.
Joy: Bringing in Alderweireld (albeit for Kosc) and doubling up on Saints defenders, thanks to the Scoutcast.

      1) Keeping Aguero instead of Benteke
      2) Back to where I was in GW28 after a couple of disastorus weeks (5.8K > 17k > 5.7k) and now only 15 points down if I had made the Aguero > Benteke move in GW31
      3) Quality pays eventually (unless it's RVP or Yaya)

Since brevity is the soul of wit, I will be brief this time:

This was my second week with no Kane after I took the risk before gw31 to sell him.

1- no move as all the transfers seemed sideways; now have two FTs to continue differential shopping and I avoided the Kane c, Gomis, Sturridge, and Remy debacles.
2- in two weeks I have gone from 52k to 18k to 14k
3- it could still backfire at anytime given his fixtures, but knowing I was a chaser was a huge help in the decision to ship Kane. I wonder if people who are leading the pack or are generally satisfied with their OR should assume that much risk; I need not owning him to continue to be a differential so I hope they don't want to.

Getting Sturridge for a juicy fixture keeping in mind the DGW that's coming proved to be my undoing this week. This together with prior poor planning sent me back at a time that I was expecting a little climb in position. What did I learn? Never trust someone with known injury history to save your season (same goes for Remy)

I did some sums over my Eriksen curse and I calculated that I have owned him for 10 weeks and have collected 2 assists for that. Unsurprisingly, two of my removals (after GW3 and GW15), have led to him collecting double digit scores the next GW. This has effected my rank alot as I never got this MF spot right.

You can just see that Eriksen is waiting for me to remove him before firing again.

Morale: Never pick Eriksen (or a Spurs player, unless it's Bale).

      2. jumped 100k in rank with 71 points

I saved my wild card until GW32, played it, and put together a strong in-form side. That's what I thought, anyway. Scored only 39 points and dropped 23,000 places in the table, my worst rank since GW7. Can I pick 'em? Sheesh!

Here's a good one though it's not specific to GW32...

This is my first FPL season and I really didn't understand the value of a DGW. Consequently in GW28 I only went with 2 DGW players (Kane and Eriksen) and captained Aguero rather than Kane. 13 points lost right there, plus 6 more because I decided not to bring Austin in.

As a result of that Austin wasn't in my squad when the QPR-Villa game was brought forward to GW31. I hadn't expected it to be re-scheduled earlier than the original date, I don't think anyone had. But seeing that Austin had Chelsea-Blank afterwards I decided for a 2nd time not to bring him in. Had he been in my team from GW28 I'd have kept him and captained him in GW31 for sure. But bringing him in for that one week didn't seem worth it.

This time I captained Rooney for 16 points but it still cost me 34 points against having Austin because this time the DGW player wasn't even in my team.

That is 53 points blown, effectively as a result of 2 bad decisions back in GW28. Had I known then what I know now about the potential of DGWs I would have handled it differently for sure.

As a result my OR has plummeted from 9k to 27k in 5 weeks. Give me those missing 53 points and I'd be around the 7k mark now. 🙁

It's all learning as this is my first season. But it just shows how cruel FPL can be sometimes - handle 1 key GW badly and the knock-on effect can last for a while. I just have to hope I get GW34 right and get a positive knock-on effect till the end of the season.

Things like this are really the building blocks in the first season alright. Last year was my first season playing it properly and I learned so much like not taking needless hits and had pretty much the same experience with DGWers.

My real tale of woe and being uber-casual was my WC the previous year, which I thought was split in two. One for 1st half of the season and one for the second.

I ended up playing my WC December 28th and not using my January one at all 😆

      1. Murray + K. Davis in for Austin (sticking with Aguero) and Foster.
I was planning to bench Austin and play Pantilimon and Dawson. This move ensured both of them remained on the bench.
      2. Moved up by close to 100k places.
      3. Form (Austin) is temporary. Fixtures (Murray, Aguero) are permanent.

An uninspiring Krul to Davis could be one of the best moves Ive made all season 😆 MEant I could bench Panti who got a big fat 0, Davis got 7 and I have a better keeper going forward. Nothing spectacular but I like it when the little things work out and especially when they look like good season long moves.

      1. Success
      2. Overall solid GW thanks to clean sheets gained 500 spots from around 1200 to 700. Quite incredible considering movement is generally slow at the top.
      3. Dull moves can still be the right moves to make. Don't get sucked in by glamour transfers

      1) Sold Naughton for Toby, delighted with the result
      2) A good one, back inside the top 2k
      3) It seemed unfashionable at the time especially with so many getting Remy but sometimes those unfashionable transfers prove invaluable. Holding onto Aguero was key here, I could have put myself into a very unfortunate position if I sold him for Remy.

Would you advise doing Naughton to a DGW defender for a hit to get 11 out this week? I'm thinking Morgan as the 0.1m saving over Jeffrey edges me nearer to getting Giroud for Remy after DGW34.

I have 9 out so far plus Was if he gets on the pitch...

    DDG
    Bertrand Was (NAUGHTON KOS PvA)
    Hazard Fellaini Mane Boyd (SANCHEZ)
    Aguero(c) Remy Kane

Hendo looked quiet good, could've had 2 more assists if Sterling hadn't been on the laughing gas. Coutinho breezed past the defence and should've scored. Saying that I have Hendo and Mig already and will be going Sterling for the double, he's far greedier than Cout.

      Just my 2 cents

Average performances would suggest returns may not continue? I can see why people are getting him because Remy is a doubt and double defence doesn't look appealing but would hardly be excited if I did own him.

1 goal and an assist in 3-4 games if I'm not wrong? Even Cambiasso has that.

Atleast Ivan will get more pts than Fabregas.
Both games are likely to be low scoring, wont be surprise with 0-0 result for both.

Both manu and arsenal have to attack, no other option. Chelsea doesn't look good at the back.

They have to attack doesnt mean Chelsea will concede.
With Costa out, Mourinho dont have any choice and Fabregas isnt playing well anyway. Would rather go with only 2 Chelsea. 😛

F & I - as a punt, Palace who are on fire playing at home against WBA who are conceding for fun

Is Barkley worth a one week punt over the likes of Punch/Bolasie?

I need some SERIOUS advice please guys & girls... but before I do there's some things I should let you know...

1). I have 2FTs for this GW (due to holding last week)

2). I still have my WC (and I plan to use it GW34)

3). This leaves me in a (half) decent position to 'double punt' (as I'll be Wildcarding next week anyway)

4). I am chasing the leader in my ML (who is the most sporny/jammy/lucky sod I know. He's had absolutely everything go his way this season) I need to make ground and finish strong.

So my question to you is if you had no budget, which GW33 punts do you all recommend???

    thanks in advance,

    Last week before wc..

    a) Baines + Bolassie

    b) Dawson + yaya + 4 points

Looking it now, pretty obvious b....right?
