It’s the calm before the storm in the Sky Sports game, with only seven fixtures this week compared to 12 matches over Gameweek 37. As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends, the watchlist and take a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 35 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Swansea vs EvertonJames McCarthy
Southampton vs HullMorgan Schneiderlin
Sunderland vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie
Tottenham vs Aston VillaChristian Benteke
West Brom vs LeicesterJamie Vardy
West Ham vs StokeMarko Arnautovic
Burnley vs ArsenalAaron Ramsey
QPR vs ChelseaJoey Barton
Man United vs Man CityAshley Young
Liverpool vs NewcastlePhilippe Coutinho

Midfielders dominate once again, with eight of the awards going to the men in the middle. Christian Benteke and Jamie Vardy were the only two to break the trend as they churned out impressive displays further up the pitch. A special mention to Yannick Bolasie, who now has seven MoTM awards – the joint second amount along with Harry Kane and David Silva.

Gameweek 35 Bonus Points

Only the game’s most popular goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski, managed to pick up saves bonus this week – a welcome addition for his 12.1% owners. Robert Green is the busiest stopper in the league, having racked up 28 bonus points over the season.

In defence, five players grabbed bonus, two for tackles and three for passes completed. Nacho Monreal was the closest to earning both, missing out by just seven completed passes – Pablo Zabaleta is still leading the way for defenders with 22 bonus points.

In midfield there were 14 beneficiaries in total: ten for tackling and five for passes. Brazilian enforcer Lucas was the man to grab both for the second week running. Chelsea duo Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic are the game’s overall highest bonus point earners with 44 each.

In-form Leicester forward Jamie Vardy also picked up tackling bonus this week and was the only front man to earn bonus.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CostaChelsea9.512.6%
ForsterSouthampton4.94.8%
TaylorSwansea4.93.6%
EriksenTottenham7.63.4%
HuttonAston Villa3.82.9%

Diego Costa and Fraser Forster are both injured, whilst Alan Hutton is without a match. Neil Taylor is suspended for two Gameweeks after picking up his tenth booking of the season and, despite having a fixture, Christian Eriksen’s poor form sees 3.4% ship the Dane.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RooneyMan United9.46.3%
GiroudArsenal8.95.1%
BertrandSouthampton5.13.7%
SanchezArsenal9.53.6%
AgueroMan City9.83.1%

Four forwards make up the most transferred in, as Fantasy managers go on the attack for the run-in, with Wayne Rooney the top target. Ryan Bertrand is the only other non-attacking player to make up the five, as he is brought in by another 3.7%

Top Five Captains Picked

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CostaChelsea9.514%
RooneyMan United9.410%
AgueroMan City9.86.8%
HazardChelsea8.96.5%
FabregasChelsea8.66.5%

A massive 14% go into the Gameweek with the injured Diego Costa as their captain, whilst 6.8% have Sergio Aguero, who doesn’t play until Sunday. Plenty of opportunity to rise in ranking, then, if you’re low to mid overall.

It’s worth noting that the average amount of transfers remaining amongst the top 1,000 currently is now 3.738. For the top 100, this figure is almost identical 3.73 but there’s less trades on the table for the top ten, who have an average of just 3.4 transfers remaining. Encouraging news for the chasing pack, then.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players that could help you climb the rankings. We look at three specific price brackets in order to cater for our available budgets, with the names evolving in accordance with fixtures and form.

Overall points: 1906

Notes
It was a bit of a non-event for my team this week, as I stayed around the same rank – although Sergio Aguero was my top scorer with 12 points, both my captains failed to deliver big returns. I’ve no plans for transfers this week but next time out I’ll probably make two or three. For now, though, I’ll sit tight and hope my double West Brom defence can dig themselves out of a hole and grab an unlikely clean sheet against a rampant Palace side.

Captain Plan
On Saturday, I’m locked into Eden Hazard, who I hope can have an impact against an in-form Man United side. I’m not expecting fireworks due to Jose Mourinho’s cautious approach in the big matches but the Belgian is capable of getting points from so many angles in the Sky game.

For Sunday, I’ll be giving the armband to one of Sergio Aguero or David Silva. The latter all but guarantees points, as he picks up passing bonus so often, so is a great safety net. He also has seven MoTM awards, two more than his team-mate. Of course, the allure of penalties will always make Aguero the more explosive option but his chances may be somewhat determined by whether City retain a lone striker system or move to two up front again. Harry Kane is, of course, another option on Sunday but Spurs have been off-form, so I’ll avoid him this time. Both Spurs and City play matchday one in Gameweek 37, so set you up perfectly in terms of captain strategy.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and we’re currently topping the Private League rankings. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch Fenners and Merse at 18:30 SkySports One HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, quizzing Preston manager Simon Grayson and asking current Swans keeper Michel Vorm for his #One2Eleven.

    Good afternoon 🙂
With Vertonghen most probably out, Moses out, Naughton out, and PVA blank - I need some very good advice what to do. (9 players if Remy doesnt play probably...)

Planing on 3 Liverpool players in for next game week (Sig,Eriksen,Vert/Naughton out)

    1 FT - 4.6 ITB
    Team is:

    Davis
    Terry - Alderweirld
    Siggy - Silva - Hazard - Eriksen
    Aguero - Rémy - Kane

    Bech/out:
    (Heaton) - Vertongen - PVA - Naugthon - Moses

    ----------

    1) Remy -> Vardy
    2) Moses -> Bolasie
    3) Naughton -> Baines
    4) Naughton -> Schlupp

    Thank you!:)

Do you have your WC for next week?

I'd go for 2 or 3 but only one, not both.

        No WC...
Don't know why I had 2) as an option, cause I actually need a defender in to have 11 playing (given Remy plays).
        Cheers.

(Just found out I can't afford Baines long-term, and Coleman forces me to do Ramsey instead of Sanchez --- Dilemma!:) )

Mourinho on Costa: "He is progressing very well. I think he has a chance for the next weekend.
Our target was for Diego to play in the last four matches. Arsenal is the sixth match to the end so if he doesn't play [against] Arsenal or Leicester [the following Wednesday], it is not a problem.
He starts training with the rest of the squad next week."

TLDR : Looks like Costa could be in contention for DGW34.

I don't think it's a good idea to get in a Leicester player who isn't nailed on to start.

Brolin was hardly thin, but he wasn't as fat as the legend says he was. He was, however, the best player to ever play the game.

What to do with this bunch of lunatics...1FT, 2.9 in the bank.

Only have 10 for GW33 at the minute but need to get planning for GW34 and the DGW.

    Myhill
Dawson - Alderweireld - Terry (Koscielny* - PvA*)
Hazard - Boyd - Eriksen - Mane (Cazorla*)
    Giroud* - Aguero(c) - Kane

This whole site has gone nuts about a bunch of Championship level strikers in my opinion.

      Vardy? Nugent? Murray? Really?

OK, the Leicester players could be worthwhile as they have a fixture this week and a DGW. But Murray? Seems like mass hysteria to me unless it's strictly a 1-week pre-wildcard punt.

That is me, Ruth. A 1-week pre-wc punt on Murray. He is hot. Then he goes, no matter what. Ironically, he goes for...Vardy! My new Boyd (same price-ish). Vardy cos he is hot and has the DGW. That is it on the Leicester / flashes in the pans though. I do think most Palace buyers are doing so temporarily, and I think the Leicester takers are inclined because of the DGW.

I guess so though you wouldn't think it from the original post. 😉

As a 1-week punt it works fine of course. The ability to do that is one of the benefits of a wildcard. And who knows, your choice of Murray could easily beat my punt on Lennon. 🙂

Dude, I read your Lennon suggestion earlier in the week, and I almost went there myself. He was a finalist, as I bet Murray was for you, too. This is my first year playing, and one of the things I remembered from these boards early on was: "Save your wild card until late in the season when the double game weeks hit." I just followed that sage advice...

Probably gonna keep him, don't know. Maybe Giroud and Ozil/Ramsey is better than Sanchez and some low price striker for their double. Took a hit this week tho.

      Looks good, captain Aguero though.

In what is likely to be a low scoring week like this, you'll want to be with the majority with your captain choice.

Skrtel, Sterling, Fabregas and Hazard enough for the DGW?
Not big on Chelsea's defence at the moment and I think Henderson will lose consistency.

Does anyone else just not make a decision if they can't decide?

I don't know what to do with Remy and a lot of times this season when I've had similar decisions I just re-assess and work it out the next week

Totally. I ditched Remy for Murray yesterday, and sold Sanchez to Fab today. I read, mull, obsess, and then decide. Otherwise, it's just too much. [caveat: I had 2FT & a WC in a rare season moment of trade surplus...]

      Yep. Best thing to do.

Remy could be a very good option in the DGW, especially if he plays and Chelsea win this weekend. Since you already have him, waiting a week can't hurt and could really pay off.

Or Speroni. I'm in the same boat.

I'm probably going Howard. Not Hart - MC's defence in disarray. I think Speroni is the alternative to Howard tbh.

Currently have 2 defenders for this GW,
    So should I:

    a) Coleman in to play this GW against (BUR), and later on (avl, SUN) gw 35 & 36
    b) Leicester defender to play this GW (SWA), and later on (SOT, QPR) gw 36 & 38

a: Forces me to have RamseyGW (36-38) - instead of Sanchez
    b: Sanchez GW (36-38)

    Cheers

    a.) Remy -----> Nugent/Vardy

    b.) Siggy/Mane ------> Punch

4 actually. Arsenal can get maximum 84 points. Chelsea currently have 73 and therefore need 12 points more to be certain.

Obviously that can reduce if Arsenal drop points.
