We move onto Gameweek 36 of this season’s Scout Picks, where Mark, Jonty, a different member of the community and I pick an XI for the upcoming round of fixtures. Each week, our line-ups go head-to-head and over the course of the season we’ll be keeping a tally of the points as we go along, with the budget now sitting at 84.0 apiece for our starting line-ups.

The Community – managed by Kings of Lyon

picks This week’s community team consists of players form only five teams, all at home and against sides with either little to play for or facing relegation. Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic is perhaps the most surprising pick, but he’s always looked lively and deserved to score at least three away at West Ham recently.

For Arsenal, I’ve opted for the clean sheet potential of David Ospina, as well as the dual midfield threat of Mesut Ozil – due to doubts over Aaron Ramsey’s fitness – and Alexis Sanchez, who should do well against Swansea on the back of his Gameweek 35 brace at Hull.

I’ve also selected a trio of Man City players. David Silva and Sergio Aguero, who should have lots of space and shot potential against a weak QPR, while Aleksandar Kolarov offers clean sheet and attacking potential, should he retain his starting role ahead of Gael Clichy.

Christian Benteke is the Premier League’s form striker. Aston Villa will need his goals when toothless West Ham rack up to Villa Park. Meanwhile I’ve also gone for Ron Vlaar in my defence, such is my confidence that West Ham are too busy booking their holidays to put in a good performance.

I’ve turned to Hull for my final two slots as their opponents Burnley look unlikely to score and seem incapable of keeping a clean sheet. I’m hoping Hull striker Dame N’Doye and defender Paul McShane will profit from the Lancashire side’s frailties.

Jonty

picks With pricey options such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva, who face QPR, and Alexis Sanchez, who faces Swansea, having form and fixtures on their side, I’ve had to search for some cut-price options to keep within the 84m budget.

D1sable’s look at Charlie Adam’s underlying statistics is enough to convince me to take a punt on the Stoke midfielder, particularly as the visitors to the Britania stadium, Tottenham, have just three away clean sheets all season.

In defence I’ve opted for Hull’s super cheap defender Paul McShane, as a Burnley side with only one clean sheet on the road pay visit. Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar is another budget option to consider, with lackluster West Ham visiting. My final budget option is Fantasy Football’s form keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who faces a Southampton side that is failing to convince as the season draws to a close.

That leaves just enough over to opt for John Terry, who looks set to be one of the few Chelsea options likely to start the remainder of the champion’s matches. My second Arsenal player is Mesut Ozil, who I’ve drafted in amid injury concerns around Aaron Ramsey, who took a knock during Gameweek 35’s match with Hull.

A pair of Belgian internationals complete my side. With ten goals in his last eight Premier League matches Aston Villa Christian Benteke looks a reliable bet. Meanwhile, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku may not be as prolific as his international team-mate but with six goals conceded in their last four matches his opponents Sunderland should offer him plenty of chances.

Mark

picks Going without Hazard was the big decision and, once I’d decided against that, it lead me to bringing in both Alexis Sanchez and David Silva as my midfield heavy-hitters.

The selection up front was simple enough, although Romelu Lukaku came close to breaking up my final trio. Sergio Aguero’s berth was a given, whilst Christian Benteke’s form was impossible to ignore. Of the three, Olivier Giroud was perhaps the most in doubt but, despite his indifferent display at Hull, I’ve opted to double on Arsenal attacking assets for Monday’s meeting with Swansea.

Hector Bellerin and Steve Harper offer me value at the back, allowing me to splash on Leighton Baines and Branislav Ivanovic. Everton have kept four consecutive shut-outs at Goodison so, despite Sunderland’s desperate plight, they have to be backed for returns. I’m less convinced on Ivanovic, but swayed by the hope that he’ll be given more freedom to raid the Liverpool flank now that Jose has the trophy wrapped up.

The selection of Chris Brunt and Sone Aluko are undoubtedly the most interesting elements of my lineup. Both differentials, Brunt has form having delivered four assists over his last four starts and is up against a ravaged and beleaguered Newcastle backline. As for Aluko, he looks set to play off lone striker Dame N’Doye and is a 4.4 midfield option for Hull’s relegation six-pointer with Burnley. He’s a gamble but, at that price, one I’m more than willing to take.

Paul

picks I’ve opted for Tim Howard between the sticks as Everton host Sunderland. The keeper has registered four straight clean sheets at Goodison and has earned saves points in all but one of those matches. With 33 points in his last four, Wes Morgan is Leicester’s form defender as Southampton pay visit, whilst I’m keeping faith with Branislav Ivanovic for Chelsea’s home encounter with Liverpool.

I’m also opting to overlook Hazard as I feel his minutes could be managed. Instead, I’ll turn to Arsenal pair Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla, with the latter’s spot-kick duties earning him the nod over Mesut Ozil. David Silva comes in for City’s clash with QPR, whilst I’m backing Wilfried Zaha to put in a performance as former club United roll up to Selhurst Park.

Up top, Sergio Aguero and Christian Benteke have the form and fixtures to again bring in the points. Harry Kane’s underlying stats remain solid and I reckon he’ll be able to breach a Stoke defence without a clean sheet in seven.

The Scores So Far

Congratulations to Gameweek 35 Community Champion Wolverine, who beat all three Scouts with 65 points. Mark and I were close behind with 60 and Jonty picked up the wooden spoon with a score of 53.

In the overall standings Jonty retains the overall lead on 1827, followed by myself on 1806, Mark on 1798 and the Community on 1719.

Guys I really need some help,

    Who to bring in first:

    A) Silva (-4) by doing Sterling and Moreno --> Silva and PVA

    B) Koscielny by doing Clyne --> Koscielny

    Skrtel or Terry to Kosc?

    Lose Terry allows me :
+ have more money ITB to upgrade mid to Ramsey if fit [else Cazorla]
    + Skrtel more attacking threat
+ I expect 1 CS from Chelsea in the next 3.

    or

Lose Skrtel because don't want to lose Terry.

    Opinions?

    A Young weekend?

Anyone looking for a cheap midfielder to enable you to get some higher priced talents (Benteke in my case) look no further than the man the myth the legend that is Ashley Young...

Priced up at 5 mil has played 90 minutes in 3 of United's last 4 games, was one of their most direct and threatening players last weekend and against a Palace side who should be up for attacking United with the likes of Zaha and Bolasie/Puncheon on the wings, this could leave extra space for Ashley to exploit...

    Cue Goal and Assist ASHLEY

That looks like a good punt. Is he fully fit? With no goals in last 3 will LVG give ADM a go?

He's fit, like you i'm also slightly skeptical but i'm 80% sure he will start ahead of ADM... since ADM got sent off against Arsenal and United's run of form that included some great Ashley Young performances including 14 pts against Man City Young has been ahead of him and on most occasions (apart from Chelsea away) wasn't even taken off for ADM in the latter stages

That must be on your transfers page. You got him in at a price less than 10.7, and that's all you get because the game limits value like that when a player rises.

Cazorla v Ozil over the last 4 gameweeks (For the main man Andy85WSM)

I'm sure many of you are stuck in choosing Cazorla or Ozil, well I have decided to help you choose the player with the greater point potential as this is the make or break point in FPL. The DGW is crucial in climbing the ranking so making the correct choice is important.

    Cazorla
    Assists - 1
    Big Chances Created - 1
    Goal Involvement - 0.25
    Goal Attempt Assists - 6
    Goal Attempts - 10
    SiB - 5
    SoB - 5
    % SoT - 20%

    Ozil
    Assists - 0
    Big Chances Created - 0
    Goal Involvement - 0.00
    Goal Attempt Assists - 10
    Goal Attempts - 4
    SiB - 4
    SoB - 0
    % SoT - 75%

It is quite clear that the statistics clearly favour Cazorla out of Ozil. The statistics I have decided to focus on have helped me throughout FPL in choosing the correct midfielder so I feel that it's important to do the same when comparing Cazorla and Ozil. I would suggest going with Cazorla as I do rely on statistics but if you are a risk taker then Ozil is the way to go. I hope most of you have Sanchez as I do believe that he will be the highest scoring player in DGW 37. Not that it is relevant but I have gone for Laurent, Rambo and Sanchez.

My writing is not so good as I am fairly new to this but give me a chance 🙂

    Hopefully this helped Andy.

    Hey all,

Thought I'd take a brief(ish) look at Cazorla v Ozil as a lot of us are now looking at this with Ramsey potentially out this week.

Some quick stats from the last 4 matches

    Touches in final third:

    Cazorla - 33
    Ozil - 46.5

    Penalty area touches:

    Cazorla - 12
    Ozil - 16

    Goal attempts:

    Cazorla - 12
    Ozil - 5

    Goal attempts in box:

    Cazorla - 7
    Ozil - 4

    Shot accuracy:

    Cazorla - 25
    Ozil - 80

    Chances created:

    Cazorla - 8
    Ozil - 13

From viewing some of (damn streams!) the Arsenal game (vs Hull) it's clear that Ozil gets forward more. It also felt like he was more involved in attack as the touches in the final third confirm.

Penalty area touches is quite close however and show that Cazorla also gets forward when he can. Cazorla also likes a shot on goal and has had more attempts both in the box and outside, but where he lets himself down is shot accuracy. Ozil is far ahead in this respect and shows that perhaps he's getting a bit unlucky for one not to go in (haven't seen all the matches).

As for chances created Ozil is unsurprisingly the higher of the two here. With Cazorla being so inaccurate and seemingly shooting a fair bit from range I'm not sure how likely it is for him to get goals. He does of course have the advantage of penalties.

It really is a close call and I'm not sure by looking at these stats that my decision is any easier. I think I may opt for Cazorla just because of a gut feeling but I'm sure that will change a lot in the next 15~ hours.

Who are you going for? Or should we just wait for Ramsey?

    A) Giroud to Benteke (I've got Sanchez).

    B) Lovren to Bellerin.

    C) Henderson to someone?

    D) Save it for next week.

Also, is Hazard gonna be rested now? Worth considering transferring him out to make money for Kane to Benteke next week? Maybe combine this with option (D).

I'm considering going without any Sunderland players for the DGW, after looking at their previous three results I really can't say with confidence I see any CSs or being able to guess the goalscorer for any particular game.

Is anyone else going or thinking of going without?
Or is this just silly and DGWers are always worth a punt?
If so how many and who?

Sorry for the three questions, but you may just have an opinion on one of them. Thanks.

I'm not going without (already have Pantilimon and need a mid around 5.3~). I can see why you might be considering it.

If you can put them in the wildcard team without messing up the team for GW36/38 then I don't see why not, they're always worth a punt in my eyes.

I'd probably want Wickham rather than a midfielder though. Easy to stick Pantilimon/PvA in a wildcard team too!

      Im not
They have a must win game versus Leicester and Arsenal could rotate offering chances of points at both end.
2 or 3, but not for hit.

I point you in the direction of Hull.

Previous 3 results, conceded 8 goals. DGW results, 2 clean sheets.

You see, Flynny, FPL doesn't give a flying f**k about form or logic. It is only concerned with being the most poxy and unreasonable of games imaginable. 😉

Yep. 😕 Possibly the most annoyed I've been all season tbh. Not because I didn't pick them, but because based on all available evidence to me it was the smartest move to avoid them.

        Tricky ain't it?

honestly, even without a single cleansheet I wouldn't be surprised at 6+ points from Panti

I'm getting PvA in as well.

But it allows me fund a midfield of Caz, Ozil and Sanchez so that's the main reason.

Thanks Tex, I'm balancing my budget on a WC and the team I want is to the penny if I do it tonight, but it doesn't include any Sunderland players.

I'd honestly not be too worried about not having any. Week 38 could see those with multiples having big trouble in my opinion. But I like DGW players to be contributing more than that week.

I got in PVA just for the hopes of some offensive returns more than anything. And, sometimes defenders pop up with clean sheets when you don't necessarily expect them to. He seemed safe enough to me considering all that. Plus, cheap and allows for cash to be allocated elsewhere.

Whats the Pro and cons of these Ramey (substitutes):

    Cazorla
    Ozil

Not sure there is a ton to use as an argument for going either way, except that maybe Cazorla is more of a goal threat? Plus, a hair cheaper if I'm not mistaken.

I have Hendo and Fabregas stinking up my team. Who goes this week?

    A) Hendo to Brunt (punt)
    B) Fabregas to Ozil
    C) Fabregas to Silva then week after Silva to Ramsey

Leaning towards A or C as I would rather have Ramsey over Ozil. Already have Sanchez and Giroud. Thoughts?

Would it be madness to bench Clyne? Not much to play for and Schneidelin and Forster out has really weakened the defence I think. Shound I even play PvA or Duff before Clyne?

this whole deal with Ramsey is REALLY annoying..thanks for the points last week, my rank thanks you..but I can't see him playing 2 matches in the DGW if he's 50/50 for this coming one..

guess I'll just have to be happy with 90 minutes or so across teh DGW

Mix In my opinion. Cisse being available again could give Newcastle some attacking threat.

Saints generally are decent at the back. Europe remains within reach so I expect they look to get a result any way possible
