Following a successful first season at the Britannia for Mark Hughes, in which he guided Stoke to a ninth-place finish, expectations were high as the Potters headed into the 2014/15 campaign. The former Blackburn boss continued his side’s evolution, bringing in the likes of Bojan Krkic from Barcelona and Victor Moses on a season-long loan from Chelsea, while Phil Bardsley and Mame Biram Diouf added physicality at both ends of the pitch. That balance of style and substance ultimately proved successful, with Stoke finishing in ninth place once again.

In this members article, we will take an in-depth look at Hughes’ second season in charge, analysing the main goal threats and creators and comparing the numbers from the 2013/14 and 2014/15 campaigns under the Welshman.

Any Villa fans think Richardson could be an option, especially as OOP midfielder?

a 4.5m defender, who good potentially play in midfield, and with some set pieces? worth a punt? - but I've not been following Villa in preseason

It could be a decent option, but I'd want to see a bit of stability with Villa first. There will be very little in the way of clean sheets, and all that attacking play is going to lead to nothing if there are no improvements up front.

let's get the fun rumors flowing:

Hearing #MUFC are about to sign Ronaldo back. Reaching Top 4 will be an even harder task for #LFC then. Will probably challenge #MCFC for it.

I can't wait for September 1st..season under way and signings all done and rumors dead for 3-4 months..

Still looks like a WUM tweet though. And he's an unheard of Russian sports news site editor? Meh.

If Bild broke a story on a German transfer, I'd find it interesting
If Der Westen broke a story on a Dortmund transfer, I'd be interested
If Thijs Slegers broke a story on a PSV transfer (Depay), then 😎
If Di Marzio broke a story on an Italian transfer, then I'd believe it.
              etc...

Each to their own though. I'd have him back in a heartbeat. 🙂

    Schmeic - Hennessey
    Koscielny - Alderweireld - O'Shea - Mings - 4.0
    Hazard - Walcott - Yaya - Milner - Wanyama
    Costa - Rooney - Deeney

Unsure on Alderweireld and Yaya. Possibly
Yaya > Ritchie opens up better defensive options, but spurs fixtures are enticing and Alderweireld seems good value.

It doesn't have to be a decision for the season. I expect I'll end up having Hazard for the majority of it, but I won't captain him in the first seven gameweeks, and as long as Costa is available, I'll have him out of the two. When their fixtures improve though, and if/when Costa gets suspended or injured, that's when I'll make my move.

Last season I had Fabregas until GW11, then switched to Hazard for GW12. Cesc had a goal and nine assists at that point, and Hazard had three goals and two assists...

I think it might have been closer than that, with Hazard seemingly getting full bonus points every time he sneezed. That won't happen again this season with the changes though - I think Costa will be actually be rewarded for being involved in a significantly higher percentage of Chelsea's goals than Hazard.

Yep , Never had Haz or Fab up to November . Sanchez carried me in the good days.
Bottom line , unless someone firing huge , you can cover him with your spread of players. It's not about what any player achieves fpl points wise at the end end of the season, but about your timing to have him in the period when he achieves most . Not easy , but yeah

I just think Costa gives you an easy route to Kun

But the issue with that is that once you've sold Costa to Kun you're left with only Cesc for Chelsea attack

That's not really true. Not like you're gonna stay without Hazard for the season and not like you can't sell someone else to get Kun (e.g. Rooney, Tekkers, Giroud, etc.)

Hazard is a bit of a flat track bully and anyone above 10 million should be considered as one of the main captain choices in your team.
    However,
Apart from SWA CPL AVL in the first 12 GWs(Planning a WC after during the international break) he does not really have any flat track bullying/captain worthy fixtures. Infact a set piece hog like Fabregas would probably benefit over that run. Dint consider it before but i May just get Fabs and get Hazard in later when money is not an issue 😯

I'd add new & eve to that list personally...I don't think that fact that they are away fixtures matters a great deal to him. But the idea that Fabregas could cover his points for the most part is an intriguing one...would certainly save a few financial headaches.

I'd rather captain an Arsenal and Manutd attacker those 2 weeks.. agree he'd prob do well but not sure he'll do 3 million well over the 8.5 mids. Probably get him in GW 13 when i have cash to spare and leave him in for the season

I'm just worried about his price rising. But I suppose he costs a fair whack to begin with, which might slow the increases.

There are soooooooooo many 8.5/9 mids this year. i can see them rising like mad if/when they start of well. Knowing how the kneejerking works in fpl i can see Hazard staying at a similar price/dropping if even 3 8.5ers outperform him over the first 12 weeks

At the price , think/hope , I can do without . Agree with you.. Have to have a plan B though if he fires early ?

He'll prob do well over the first 4 games(2 good home games) but i'll stick to my guns and get him in at 0.5/1 more come GW 13 if required. Pointless going without if i cant stick to my guns 🙂 .. he will score points. i just dont feel he'll score enough considering i wont be captaining him enough and i will be spending the 2.5 spare elsewhere

I am doing a 2-5-3 formation to start off because I am planning to wildcard in GW2 anyway so it is a perfect opportunity and I am just gonna save the other two chips for DGW's so please can you rate my team!

    .........Schmeichel (4.0)
    ..........Kos..... Schlupp (4.0 x 3)
Ozil.. Hazard.. Fab.. Walcott (C) Ritchie
    ....Lukaku... Costa.. Wilson

All these players are at home to weaker opposition..

    Bournemouth have AVL at home
    Chelsea have Swansea
    Everton - Watford
    Arsenal have West Ham
    Leicester have Sunderland..

    Thoughts??

lol.. GW 2 WC 😆 .. so basically if you want to play your 2nd WC with a DGW and bench boost combo post GW 32 you'll have to survive 30+ GWs without a WC.. Good luck when you got to play a WC just a week after the game opens

Could be number 1 in the world too!

Add some playing defenders and you could keep that team longer

    Just updated my team RMT

what should I change? 2 MANU attackers too much? Should I downgrade Clyne?

    Myhill
    Clyne-Huth-Azpil
Depay-Hazard-Ritchie-Cazorla(Not sure which Arsenal 8.5 to go with)
    Costa-Rooney-Sakho

    Hennesey-Francis-Targett-Wanyama

Any1 considering Bacuna or amavi for villa? Both likely to play wing back and are likely to be involved with assists! Nice 4th choice defender I recon, if you can afford it!

    Rate my team.

Butland - Speroni (Will be rotated regularly)
Clyne - Kosc - Ivan - O'shea - Baker (Will use clyne, kosc, ivan mostly)
Wayanma - Haz - Yaya - Hendo - Cazorla (Waynama bench, yaya at 8.5mil is pretty good tbh)
    Sahko - Deeney - Rooney

Still have 1.5mil on purpose instead i want to upgrade in the early stages of FPL.

        Any suggestions pal?

Sahko i believe will score 15+ goals this season because he have recruited good quality players. when Sahko gets chances.. he scores.. Bamford is also the same and palace will give him lots of chances i think... rooney.. g'eed 150 points this season.

Alright, dear sirs, would you do me the pleasure of sharing your thoughts on this group of misfits?

    Butland / Ruddy

Azpilicueta, Prodl/Francis, 4.5/4.0 (Ward and Saylor in here at the moment, but I hope for a nailed 4.0 by gameday, with a 4.5 rotato)

    Fabregas, Mata, Yaya, Cazorla, Wanyama

    Costa, Pelle, Deeney

£4 mil in the bank, I don't want to keep this here, I'd like to put it somewhere useful, but keep it available (in a player) to use to bring in Aguero, Hazard or both, should the need arise. until that becomes a need though I am really happy with the other options, and their value. I love a good bargain.

what do you guys think? comments please

Fabregas seems to get most of his points in the first half of the season, He is one of my favorite players, I think I'll keep him for now. If I bring in Hazard, It will probably be for a different player

Do you guys reckon he's better value then the equally priced Skrtel?

With Benteke coming in, I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps feeding his giant head quite often.

I was going to go for Clyne, then I realised that last season he had 2 goals and 2 assists, 0.5 goal attempts per match, and 0.6 chances created per match.

      Weird considering his reputation.
