Watfordโ€™s summer overhaul continued in earnest with the capture of Spartak Moscow attacking midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado last week. The 29-year-old โ€“ who played under Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores during his spell with Atletico Madrid โ€“ expressed his delight at the chance to fulfilย hisย dream of playing in the Premier League:

โ€œI am very happy to come to Watford and I want to play right now. The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and itโ€™s a dream for a player to come and play here. I am happy to be with Quique again and I hope this season is good for everybody. I want to play in England and Watford is a good opportunity to play in this league, and I like this opportunity.โ€

The History

Born in Cadiz, a province of Southern Spain, Jurado began his footballing education at Real Madrid, where he spent three successful seasons turning out for the B side. Having netted 13 goals in 95 appearances for the reserve outfit, Jurado earned his league debut with the senior team in October 2005. After notching a further couple of La Liga cameos in the 2005/06 campaign, he made the switch to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2006.

By virtue of injuries to Maxi Rodriquez and Martin Petrov, Jurado was afforded a regular starting berth during his debut term at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, bagging one goal across 33 outings. After finding his playing time drastically reduced the following campaign (three starts), the Spanish playmaker was shipped out on loan to Mallorca for the 2008/09 La Liga season.

Jurado enjoyed the best period of his career to date with the Balearic club, chalking up nine goals and ten assists in 35 appearances. He subsequently enjoyed an increased role upon his return to Rojiblancos, featuring in every single league tie of the 2009/10 season while amassing seven goals and five assists. A solid attacking output wasnโ€™t enough to earn Jurado a starting berth at the start of the 2010/11 season, leading to his sale to Schalke.

Managing just three goals and six assists from 31 appearances over two years in the Bundesliga, Jurado made the switch to Spartak Moscow in September 2012 in the pursuit of first-team football. An initial loan deal was made permanent just two months into his stay in Russiaโ€™s capital, as the former Real Madrid starlet went on to bag three goals and four assists in 18 appearances (30-match season). The 2013/14 campaign proved to be Juradoโ€™s most profitable in the Russian Premier League, harvesting eight goals and two assists across 29 outings. After earning just ten starts in his final season in Russia, Jurado opted for a change of scenery this summer.

The Prospects

The versatile Jurado has typically operated from a central attacking midfield role throughout his career, but heโ€™s also spent a fair amount of time stationed on the flanks โ€“ particularly the left. Having played as a number ten for all but six of 32 outings during his debut campaign with Spartak, he alternated between a variety of roles (attacking/centre mid, winger and support striker) in the 2013/14 season, before occupying a left flank berth for nearly half (13/28) of his starts in the previous campaign.

Handed his debut by the club just three days after signing, the Spaniard made an instant impact by providing the assist for Troy Deeneyโ€™s winner against Dundee United. Tellingly, he was the only Watford player to be handed 90 minutes on Saturday, which suggests that Flores is keen to build up the playmakerโ€™s match sharpness ahead of the season kick-off.

The Spanish boss has now employed a 4-2-3-1 in all but one of his sideโ€™s matches and itโ€™s fair to say thereโ€™s plenty of competition for the three slots behind lone striker Deeney. Ikechi Anya and Odion Ighalo also started at the weekend, though the likes of Almen Abdi, Matej Vydra and new boy Steven Burghuis are all tussling for starting berths.

Juradoโ€™s previous stint under Flores may well work in his favour and at a price of just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he could stake a claim as a viable cheap midfielder. From a Fantasy perspective, Anya โ€“ at 4.5 โ€“ would be the more budget friendly option, whilst Vydra and Ighaloโ€™s classification as forwards somewhat lessens their appeal.

The Hornetsโ€™ early schedule (eve, WBA, SOU, mci, SWA, new) sits on the tougher end of the spectrum, which might deter interest in their favourably priced assets. Indeed, Watford are rated bottom for attacking potential for the first six Gameweeks by our season ticker. For those who fancy Floresโ€™ side to quickly find their feet, though, they alternate home/away with fellow promoted side Bournemouth if youโ€™re looking for a rotation pairing to consider.

Great movement in the box - if the Toon can get them service to him could be a good pick. Defo improves Janmaats potential IMO - as Cisse couldn't finish his tea last season.

If Austin signs this week, Cisse and Mitrovic may have to share minutes.

Angella might not be a starter. Watford's def seems like a mine field. They have a nice rotation with BOU, but personally I'd go for Martin (NOR) instead.

Hi all, first draft of the season coming up...

Having unexpectedly finished as high as 15th overall last season, I only opened the FPL on Sunday for the first time. Therefore I'm not fully up to date on everything that's happened with the rules and especially the lineups and fixtures etc.

Anyway, here goes the 1st RMT, many more to come over the season I believe :p

    Ruddy-Butland
    Azpilicueta-Koscielny-O'Shea-Cedric-Morgan
    Hazard-Özil-Silva-Ritchie-Wanyama
    Rooney-Benteke-Deeney

First of all, I'm not too sure that Silva is a good pick. Not too sure at all.

Secondly, do you think it's too much to have both Ritchie and Deeney in the team as both are very much unproven on this level?

The team will most likely change a lot in the next week and a half. I'm only pretty much set on having Rooney, Benteke, Hazard and Wanyama at the moment. Conceivably everyone else can still be moved out.

Anyway, I appreciate if you have any comments

    1. LC1
      11 years, 3 months ago

Really good team! Just wondering why everyone is putting in Wanyama when he isn't a prolific point getter? Is there something i'm missing?

      1. Cocky Spaniel Alves
        11 years, 3 months ago

Not really. I just think he's nailed on and served me well last year at times too.

    2. Lord Bendtner, TGSTEL
      11 years, 3 months ago

Özils form at the moment is very good, so at 8.5m he seems lika a very good pick for the first few GW's

Would consider not "being preety much set" on Wanyama because of very high selection. Prettymuch nailed, but still very few points, so risk for player decrease imo if (when) someone better comes up

      1. Cocky Spaniel Alves
        11 years, 3 months ago

True. I could easily swap him for another 4,5 if someone can make a good case ๐Ÿ™‚

I like it. Very similar to what I have right now. Watch out for Morgan - go with Huth perhaps?

Silva's a great pick, but slightly overpriced for me + fixtures tough-ish.

Obvious move is to go with Sterling and upgrade Ritchie to a 7m

      1. Cocky Spaniel Alves
        11 years, 3 months ago

Good point but i just don't like Sterling too much having watched him a lot at Liverpool.

    1. Diva

      Anyone?

  9. Lord Bendtner, TGSTEL
    11 years, 3 months ago

Thoughts on possible early value increases and decreases?

    My own guesses

    ##Increases##
    1. Alexis (don't start GW1, atm "just" ~10% selection)
    2. Aguero (if he does not start GW1, same as Alexis, ~15% selection)
    3. Target? (will probably only figure very few matches, but still a 4m player)
    4. Bentaleb? (Everyone picking Wanyama as 4.5m option, migh switch here)

    ##Decreases##
    1. Wanyama, very high selection rate, could be risky
    2.

    ##Risk/Reward-section##
    1. Walcott, close to 10% selection, not 100% nailed, but good form
    2. Kane, high selection on ~32%, will need a very good start to increase, and "like last year" to not decrease

    1. Taffer
      11 years, 3 months ago

Targett will be 3.8 by GW6. Don't go near. Walcott could 8.8 at some point when Alexis gets back.

      1. Royal5
        11 years, 3 months ago

Targett got under 2% ownership. Surely won`t drop much if anything.

      2. Lord Bendtner, TGSTEL
        11 years, 3 months ago

atm he is selected by 1.9%, so high decrease not very possible atm IMO. But on the other hand, wont a big increase be probable either, so upside pretty low anyway maybe

    2. Wirtzle Gummidge
      11 years, 3 months ago

      Kolorov

I know, not sure about Fonte yet.

WH have nice rotation with Bournemouth. With Jenko at 5.0 I think he's worth to rotate.

Yep sure - I have planned my defence for the first 8 GW's becuase i don't expect to hold my WC longer than that.

Butland, Ruddy - nice rotation, expect plenty of save points.

      Azpi/Kosc(undecided), Cedric, Francis, Bassong, Holebas

      Azpi/Kosc every week.

Cedric every week in first 8 except gw 6(MUN) and gw 8(che)

BOU/NOR/WAT rot gives: AVL, WBA, STO, LEI, BOU, SUN, PAL, WAT

Of course i need an extra player in gw6/8. Holebas has new in gw6 and Bassong has LEI in gw 8.

THanks Nabs. Been thinking about going with only one of Azp/Kosc too. I do get the 3 way rotation thing, but not sure I trust those defences even with those home fixtures.

        1. Nabs Kebabs
          11 years, 3 months ago

          No worries.

Yeah one is the way to go i reckon, we don't want to be scrambling for defence downgrades went Kun is back. We want to be jumping on the attacking bandwagons.

Yeah it's something a but different for me - normally i just go for solid defences with good fixtures. It just looks really nice on paper and surely am bound to get some CS 's from there. A lof attacking potential in those cheap defenders aswell fwiw. Francis has 3 goals, 24 assists in his last 3 seasons.

I've had this for about a week and it hasn't changed except for a couple players swapping in and out who I can't decide on.

              Myhill - Hennessy

              Hazard - Walcott - Sterling - Ritchie - 4.5

              Skrtel/Walcott - Kosc/Ozil
              Ivan/Ritchie - Azpi/Milner

You'd think some players will jump at the chance to play for Sherwood. He's a good man manager and now has a reputation for improving the fortunes of underperforming players.

G'day lads! first post for the upcoming season and a few changes and this is the team i have come up with.

Please do tear it apart! thanks in advance ๐Ÿ˜€

Two rotating 4.5 goalkeepers (any ideas?) or just a solid goalkeeper?
Kos, Azpi, Cedric, Williams, Huth - Williams and Huth rotate, but would prefer to 4.5 mils that rotated?
    Walcott, Ozil, Depay, Chadli, Wanyama
    Rooney, Costa, Defoe

Personally prefer Lescott and Oshea rotation as I think Leicester may struggle

Ruddy and Butland I think works. Personally going for ultra cheap Leicester keeper for saves

    Ruddy (butland)
    Ivanovic Koscielny Cedric (Mings Huth)
    Hazard Ozil Silva Ritchie (Ibe)
    Rooney Sahko Deeney

With plan to swap Silva for Chadli and Rooney for Aguerro once fit.

I know. Currently on Kosc in def, so I'm in the same position. Might make an exception though, Sakho is value...

    4. Piggs Boson
      11 years, 3 months ago

I wouldn't worry. Bilic has said he will attack in numbers, and Sakho will benefit from this style because the full backs will press up and deliver crosses. He'll be Bilic's new Demba Ba, who scored 27 goals in 44 appearances.

The problem with planning for an early WC is you ideally want to keep it for preparation for Bench Boost chip.

Maybe use second half season for that, and plan for max points GW1 with GW2 WC once we've got a better idea of how teams are lining up an who's got a bit of form?

    Hello FFS Community,

Been an FPL player since its inception but only started visiting FFS last year. Great to be voyeur and soak up all the useful advice, but think it is time to stick my head above the parapet and get involved in community discussion rather than just steal ideas from various FPL oracles like Doosra, Ryan, Triggerlips, Innsie, Ruth etc.

A quick RMT would be a nice way to begin.

    Ruddy / Butland
    Azpi / Cedric / Williams / Huth / o' Shea
    Hazard / Cazorla / Wally / Tadic / Anya
    Rooney / Tekkers / Sakho

Rough plan is to bring in Kun Gw4 for Rooney and downgrade Ars mid to Ritchie
If Rooney is firing, then Tekkers - Kun and both Ars mids to 7.0 options.

    Whaddaya reckon?
    Any advice greatly received. Cheers!

Welcome Space Cadete! Thanks for the mention! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Quite a strong team you've got there and a well thought out plan. I love your defence and forwards, I'm not the biggest fan of Caz or Tadic but they can easily be swapped for another 8.5 or 7m mid. Your team structure is spot on IMO, good stuff.

GK: good rotation but I tried this last year and not sure it worked out due to away save points. Personally going über cheap this year
DEF: looks good Huth and Willams rotation I assume?
Mid: I hear good things about Anya but still a bit of a risk. Best to play safe imo

Good team. Not sold on Tadic (think his minutes are always numbered) or Benteke (think he needs time to adapt) but the rest is very good.
