Despite guiding Tottenham to a sixth place slot in 2013/14 after replacing Andre Villas-Boas as the Tottenham manager, Tim Sherwood wasn’t offered the Spurs job on a permanent basis, with chairman Daniel Levy instead opting for Southampton’s Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine arrived at White Hart Lane having led the Saints to an eighth place finish, and immediately went about adding to his squad, with Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Federico Fazio, Eric Dier and Benjamin Stambouli all joining during the summer transfer window. There were plenty of departures too, with Michael Dawson, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Sandro among the big names to leave.

In this members article, we take an in-depth look at Pochettino’s first season in charge, analysing the main goal threats and creators as Tottenham recorded a fifth place finish in the Premier League.

Who is Leicester’s first choice right back? I know Ranieri is new there but I look at Simpson as to be a bargain if he gets the job.

Ozil's safer. Walcott higher reward. Thing with Walcott is though he will start the first couple of weeks until Sanchez is back and then you can downgrade him to raise money for Aguero

I watched the Man Utd Barca friendly. Depay showed some quickness, but with Barca dominating possession like they do, he did not get many touches. He was not really a factor in that particular match. I thought Mata looked good. He showed nice touch and vision. He should play every game; such a good player, IMO.

I've watched the 1st half of all of their US friendlies. He has looked very good. Not setting the world afire with goals/assists yet, but he has the quickness and skill to do very well with United. He's in my initial team, I look for him to do very well in their first 3 fixtures esp.

I'm really struggling to settle on a team this year.

I need to pick two, I can't decide between Giroud, Pelle, Benteke or Kane up...with Rooney.

I want to go with a cheap back line of playing 4.5m players who rotate well, but everyone seems to think you'll need at least one, but really two premium defenders...but I can't settle on any of the 5.5m options, I was on Cresswell, but I'm not sure he's worth the extra 1m?

Depay is also causing a headache, I'm sure he'll get good game time, but will he perform from the off?

Anyone else struggling more so than in years gone by?

Defined u really tough this year. I agree with the two premium defenders policy but really struggling up front. Saki got a brilliant two games in gw2&3 but there's so many options up front I just can't pick a settled front 3

      1. HamezMace
        • 11 Years

I'm going without Aguero or Costa, in favour of 3 higher priced forwards, Rooney for sure, but I just can't pick from the other 4 I mentioned

    3. Feeling_blue
      • 11 Years

Pelle and Benteke. Although I prefer Sakho for one and upgrade in midfield. I went with Mertesacker, although I'm still not sure. I'm keeping Depay on the watchlist

      1. HamezMace
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 5 months ago

I always said if Benteke went to a top club he'd be PL top scorer, so I feel I have to go for him, even though his first few fixtures aren't great

    4. treemendous87
      • 10 Years
      10 years, 5 months ago

I like Benteke's prospects at Liverpool. He will be on the end of plenty of crosses and Liverpool can give him the service. I think Kane will be up there again too.

A premium defender is not needed if you have a clever rotation. I have Azpil but I wanted a Chelsea defender out of personal choice and had spare cash.

Depay is a free kick specialist. He is in my team for that reason, and that Man United have bought a lot of players who can give him service and win free kicks/get on the end of them. He will get assists on a regular basis, with some occasional goals imo

      1. Del Griffith
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 5 months ago

Actually the opposite is true about Depay, he will score plenty as he's a greedy get but will not get many assists

      2. HamezMace
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 5 months ago

Benteke is more than a guy who will get his head on a cross, he's a very technical player, just had to play a certain way at Villa, but I agree he will do very well at Liverpool.

Kane has the edge over Giroud just for security of starts really.

Depay is tempting me as I think United will need to score 2 - 3 times to win games this year.

It tough because then can't double up on United defense.

Going with Milner over Henderson. I think if Benteke's playing he'll be the team's penalty kick taker. He needs all the confidence he can get.

Obviously you cant fill up your team with a load of punts (First Prem Season), so WHO is your first choice punt bearing in mind price fixtures etc.

I think i'll go for Depay

Why is everyone going for Sterling when he plays Pulis away followed by Chelsea? Don't see him picking up many points in either of those two games, especially with Aguero out.

There is still Silva to pass him the ball.

I think it is quite important to have a plan in mind when and how to bring Aguero in when he is fit, so how is everyone on here planning to do that?

    Rooney + Sterling --> Aguero + 7.0 for me

      Kane + Sterling/Depay/Ozil +1 ITB -> Kun + Ritchie/Lens here.

After a bit of tinkering I've found a really well balanced and explosive team..

    Ruddy
    Huth, Koscielny, Azpilicueta
    Depay, Sterling, Hazard, Özil
    Sakho, Kane, Pellè

    Subs: Rudd, O'Shea, Mings, Fletcher

    What do you think?

    - Think Rooney is past it (won't he be playing sweeper again this season?).
    - Not sold on Mane considering he may get limited minutes and SOT don't score that many goals anyway.
    - Liverpool are hardly a fluid attacking unit, but I'll monitor the likes of Tekkers/Hendo.

Basically I think I have a nice balance of early fixtures/form of last season in case I want to hold off the WC until after GW4 onwards.

Ruddy is a waste of a goalkeeper IMO
      Pretty good overall though.

Rooney is central striker. I have Pelle and Sakho but Rooney over Kane. Sterling maybe get on GW4? Don't trust Norwich's defence personally

I like it, very similar to mine.
I basically went Sakho->Wilson & upgraded the GK to Pantilimon.
