Once again, there was a minimal amount of new injuries over the weekend’s matches for Fantasy managers to fret over, with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino playing down concerns after withdrawing Harry Kane and John Terry respectively. Steve McClaren is a manager with worries, however, with injuries in midfield, while his first choice right-back will miss their Gameweek 3 trip to Old Trafford through suspension.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho denied John Terry picked up an injury in today’s loss at City after being subbed off at the break. Perhaps tellingly, this was the first time in Terry’s career under Mourinho that he had been replaced mid-match, with the Blues boss explaining:

“No [he was not injured], it was a decision I made. I know that Zouma is the fastest in the squad, and in that moment Manchester City were playing on the counter attack. Zouma is different than John, and my decision was proved right as Zouma was in complete control. I left him out because tactically we needed to make a change, and I was proven right as we controlled the game in the second half.”

Mourinho also stated post-match than Oscar, who missed the Etihad trip, remains a doubt for the Gameweek 3 trip to West Brom…

“Oscar’s injury isn’t a big one but it stops him from playing today and probably next week”

Leicester City
Back-up stopper Mark Schwarzer missed yesterday’s win at West Ham due to illness, the club’s official twitter feed confirmed.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren has concerns in midfield for the trip to United after Moussa Sissoko was withdrawn at the break against Swansea due to a groin problem. The Magpies boss also explained Siem de Jong’s weekend absence:

“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet…We think it (De Jong injury) is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it (in time) but unfortunately didn’t (but) it should not be too bad.”

Sissoko has since tweeted on his injury, confirming an adductor problem.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down his second-half withdrawal of Harry Kane in yesterday’s draw with Stoke. The Spurs boss confirmed Kane’s problem was no more than cramp, having started training a little late due to his Euro U21 exertions with England:

“Harry was very tired and had some cramps in his calf, so to take the risk with the score at 2-0, I didn’t think it was a problem to take him off. He came later in pre-season and it is normal. He is better but he needs time to arrive. We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now. This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body”.

Swansea
Garry Monk remains optimistic that Ki Sung-Yeung will return to action for next week’s trip to Sunderland. The Swans boss refused to take any chances with the South Korean at home to Newcastle, after he was forced off with a hamstring injury away to Chelsea last week:

“It wasn’t really [right] to take the risk with him. Of course he’s pushing to play, but I think we’ll give him that little bit more time. He’ll be back in training next week ready for the Sunderland game.”

Suspensions

Newcastle are set to be without Daryl Janmaat for the trip to United after the right-back received his marching order for picking up two yellow cards away to Swansea. Discussing his upcoming absence, the Dutchman – who was booked on both occasions for incidents involving Jefferson Montero – owned up to his Liberty folly:

“I’m very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my team-mates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with ten men is very difficult. The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.”

West Ham are set to be without Adrian for the next three league matches after the Spaniard’s weekend dismissal at home to Leicester. Dismissed for serious foul play after an incident with Jamie Vardy, the Hammers keeper will miss clashes against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to action in Gameweek 6 away to Man City. Darren Randolph (4.5) is set to deputise in his absence.

Hey its done now, got in all the potential double risers but expecting none. Main issue fro WC is whether to include Hazard or not?

Ín all seriousness, even with 2 FTs i am feeling the pressure to wildcard and sort the rest of my squad out just because of potential price falls. Hazard, Koscielny and Panti drops could hurt badly.

I thought you would. I had to do the same - 0.1, 0.2 I can (through gritted teeth) take, but the risk of -0.5 to -1.0 in one week is beyond the pale.

he's played well. but typical Stoke of couple of seasons past - defend rather resolutely but often concede from that one big chance they give away.

Butland I believe is good for the season until he makes a howler. As for the defense, Pieters and GJ are nailed on. Shawx will come in at some point for Cameron I believe. Could be Muniesa too.

      • 10 Years

In a nutshell, Muniesa is seemingly ahead of Cameron in the pecking order BUT he's more injury prone and given ShawX is reportedly out for 3 months+ then I'd say go for the Yank.

Yeah, I'd go Butland first then Cameron, perhaps even a double will be good value.

Only 4.5 ahead of him is Myhill imho. Both could be the way to go, particularly as they rotate and if Speroni comes back as no.1 and Marshall isn't a factor.

Why are so many people WCing? Surely 1-2 hits will fix your team at this stage of the season....

Not if we're sure on Sanchez and Kun. Want to get season keepers at cheapest possible price.

    2. Shifty
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

1 hit would fix Hazard, Walcott and Rooney all at once. I've already done Walcott/Rooney > Aguero/Mahrez for free.

The problem is when you look at the rest of your team and you have Pantillimon (ugh wtf happened there), Targett, Cedric and Sakho (unlucky but still could face some selling pressure)...things could get brutal.

As Trigger said in his post, it's the price pressure that's forcing alot of WCs.

      1. Puyol Pants Up
        • 11 Years

Panti, Targett, Cedric and Sakho are definitely not worth a WC.

          10 years, 6 months ago

Yea which is why I'm not WC-ing to get rid of them (yet). I think I have a decent enough team to ride this bad wave out.

          Pants
          Kosc Kolarov Huth Cedric Targett
          Hazard Ozil Chadli Mahrez Bentaleb
          Aguero Pelle Sakho

Obviously Hazard is a prime candidate to shift to Sanchez/Silva for a hit.

Similar story. But I think WC is too precious to be wasted when a hit or two can fix the damage. I think I'll hold until at least GW8/9.

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 6 months ago

same. my plan was always for GW8/9 for the fixture swing. Intend to ride this out with FTs.

Yeah that's always the plan. Wish I can avoid taking a hit before that GW but just not meant to be.

See above. If 1-2 hits were all I needed I'd take that on the chin, but I've shifted 10 players out because of the price drop risk. A few might return to might return to my team at the end of the week, but by then they may each be at least 0.1 cheaper - and if not I haven't lost anything.

Another reason to go silva over YYT. Keeps haz in sight.

    1. Shifty
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

Yea that's a good point - a downgrade to YYT and spreading of funds elsewhere puts Hazard out of reach. Who's to say he won't deliver against WBA?

Though the Chelsea system with Costa doesn't seem to favour Hazard. Costa just drifts to the left too often.

That's why I will probably ride with the punches re Hazard. The only 2 players I would sell Hazard for are Silva and Sanchez obviously. We still have to consider the structure of our teams.

Those of us who shipped Walcott last week were called "cowardly kneejerkers" among other things. My Walcott replacement was carefully selected and brought me 5 more points than Walcott's bench replacement would have got me. If that's what being a "cowardly kneejerker" gets me, then I'm happy to be one.

Indeed. There was a logical reason behind my decision and I followed that logic. It might have backfired, and if it had I would have taken it on the chin, but there was nothing "cowardly" or "kneejerk" about the decision.

well, it's a hindsight thing. Fair play and well done on the move though.

I'm sure everyone considered shifting Walcott - the more risk averse ones (like me) decided to keep. There was also a lot of positive noise amongst the regulars, even Jonty and Mark on the scoutcast.

Could have gone either way mate. No need to rub it in to the rest.

I've specifically worded it as I have because my comments were aimed at those who were slamming us last week for taking the other half of the 50/50. I don't wish to rub it in. I'm sorry for those who held that their faith was not rewarded.

Then you are free of any criticism Shifty. The point is it was a tough call that could have gone either way. I'm sorry for those who stuck that they weren't even rewarded with a cameo - that was a kick in the teeth... Unless it brings you big points off the bench! 😀

As above, it was a risk, but there was logic to my move. It might have failed, and if so I would have taken it on the chin. But the move was thought through and was not "cowardly" or "kneejerk". It's not about hindsight, it's about the mis-labeling of reasoned decisions.

      Don't get bitter, get even.

And I took a -4 hit swapping Haz/Wally for Ayew/Sanchez (2.5 ITB for Rooney>Aguero), turns around that was trading 1pt for 12. Quite happy with that and its a good long term move not just a short term point chasing move.

I'm not bitter, just calling out those who label thought out moves as "cowardly". I made three moves for -8 and so far I'm 4 points up on the deal (after the hits and scores of replaced players are factored in) with one player still to play. That wasn't cowardice, that was a brave move. It might have backfired, but I thought it would pay itself back within 2-3 weeks and it looks like it has done so in 1... with interest!

Do WC transfers count towards totals for price changes?

They didn't last year but I heard that this rule was removed by FPL towers because many game the system by making all the transfers early in the week before activating WC close to deadline.

That Amavi bloke looks like a good attacking threat as well. Very willing to take defenders on and make intelligent runs and crosses.

The problem is Agbonlahor is crap. So Richards probably a better pick for set piece threat.

WC team is currently full of potential double risers ( doubt too many will occur)

Want my WC to end up something like this on Saturday morning-

    Ruddy/ Rudd (or 4.0 CPL)
    Darmian or Kolorov/ Williams/ Richards/ 4.5/ Targett
    Hazard/ ?????/ Sanchez/ Maherez/ Westwood
    Aguero/Sakho/ ?????

    So-

    A- Silva and Deeny
    B- Yaya and Gomis

I really want Silva but thinking now B makes sense

Also on a WC would you
    1- Keep with Haz
    2- Get rid

Thanks all for input (and thanks if you already helped 3 pages back!)

don't hold your breath on double risers. Probably just Mahrez and Kun.

      B between the 2 options.

Get rid of Haz for now, for Payet/Chadli. Get Fabianski as your keeper.

It's something I considered for a long time pre season..to go 3-5-2 with my Aguero draft, Mahrez as my 5th mid, Aguero Pelle up top.

However, I caved and went with the traditional 3-4-3 without Aguero to start off.

The rest is history. Fine margins.

having a bit of a dire start to the season with 32 pts in GW1 and now sitting at 20 pts with 2 to go

Shall i WC or just use my 2 FT:

    Ruddy/Butland
    Azpi/Kosc/Cedric/Proedl/Francis
    Haz/Wally/Ozil/Milner/Wanyama
    Roonpig/Pelle/Wilson

    2 FT, 0.5 ITB

Thinking of keeping Roonpig for one more week and just doing Wally --> Mahrez to get Aguero & Silva for GW 4 with 2 FT (Haz and Roonpig out)

    Good plan?

Sorry Jeanz, was replying to posts above so only just working down to this. Obviously you will wait until after the game tomorrow to see how Benteke does. If he has a stinker then A looks OK. I'm very price driven at the start of the season, particularly around the risk of price drops, so I would monitor your other players - Cedric springs to mind, as well as Hazard. Chelsea haven't been playing great while City have been, and for that reason B is attractive to you, but in a vacuum you would probably consider that a sideways move. If team value doesn't play a major part in your thinking you might be able to hold off that bit for another week.

    4. Shifty
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

Have a mate that went Oxford Targett Gomez as well, I think that's a good albeit short term solution. But only worry there is that those 3 could be out of favour by GW4. And Clichy might start rotating with Kolarov.

I would maybe downgrade Lukaku to Ighalo and find a 5th mid that rotates well with him...and use the extra funds to upgrade Targett amongst the trio.
